The Bisexual (2018)
Good fun
Most enjoyable.
Some very smart and funny writing and some lovely performances.
Krigen (2015)
Brilliant.
What a fine film.
It's free of histrionics and bombast and is miles away (thankfully) from the tripe Hollywood would dish up.
It's a thoughtful, realistic and power-packed film that lays it all out - the complexity of fighting a war in which there are no easy answers and in which every option has huge and life-threatening risks attached to them.
A fine cast carries it off with aplomb.
At end I was thinking this is one of the best war films I have seen - it sure is.
Enjoy.
Full Frontal with Samantha Bee (2016)
Superb.
It's a fair bet Comedy Central regrets its decision to replace Jon Stewart with the affable but frat-boy style humour of Trevor Noah. Particularly when one considers it had a wonderful option in its own reporting ranks in Sam Bee. As good as Colbert can be, Sam Bee is the best there is. Her show is on point, clever and surgical in how it dissects and exposes the hypocrisy of the Right, Trump and his disciples. And if the Centre or the Left needs a kicking she does that too - just like Stewart. When she goes after a target Sam doesn't miss - never ... ever. It's the best show of its type on TV - what a pity it's not on five days a week, though quality can be tough to sustain over that kind of punishing schedule. Probably best it's just a weekly show - but boy, what a show it is. One of the absolute highlights of my viewing week.
Decadencia (2015)
A pleasant and interesting surprise.
For me this was an unexpected gem. Nataly Umana turned in a fine performance as the naive and idealistic central character. She carries the film, which is essentially a two-hander. It's an interesting story - we see how she grapples with the increasing sexual demands of the man she loves. For him it's kinky sex, for her it's love and the conflicting desires are at the heart of this film. Umana is a stunning looking woman and is totally believable in her role. The ending is powerful and appropriate though perhaps a little rushed. Well worth a couple of hours of your time.
