Hocus Pocus (1993)
A great Halloween and movie over all
All the sisters (Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy) do a great job. They really fit the part as witches, each having their own personalities. Bette Midler is unbelievable. She really fills the role as a lead. The kids fit the part as adds. Extras follow with dancing, and just filling spots. A movie to watch for Halloween or whenever. A comedy, and really a good story that follows from start to finish. A new kid/student the the city of Salem. A story of the witches. And a story of the 3 witches trying to live after dying after 300 years. Small things, like a dead person, cutting his stitches to talk, showing a personality. Adults not believing the children. And over all, good graphics for its time. Again, Betty does great as a lead!
Push (2009)
Not the worst, but still pretty bad
CGI is about the only thing impressive. I like the concept, regardless of how many times it has been done. It's 10 lbs of whatever crammed into a 5 lbs bag. The intro is bad. Dakota Fanning spits out a full story in 2 minutes. Easily could have spent 10 mins creating a foundation. Acting is decent. Reminds me of a bad version of "firestarter". High standard to compare with, but still. Plot holes. They just try to shove so much into one movie. Might be better for a two or three part series. Literally, "hey, here a book series!" "Great, let's take the first and last book out. We'll worry about that stuff...never.. Let's make a movie!"
Ending is bad. Just leaves you hanging, and shaking your head. Better luck next time.
Fight Club (1999)
A Good Reason
"Fight Club" does a great job of representing the book. I think a better ending, which is hard to find when compared to a book.
It gives a good perspective on life and gives an example of life. Referring to ideas of those not wanting to start a fight or the idea of what you own ends up owning you.
The movie takes place in a time, 90's, where there are more capabilities for these activities to take place. As in the limited security, like cameras.
There is only thing I don't like - the fight between "Tyler Durden" and the blonde actor. There was no need for it.
Regardless, a good movie that will intrigue younger people. More men than woman in my opinion. Not to be sexist. It's worth the watch. Not bad real idea. But none of this would happen. Enjoy.
Butterfly Kisses (2018)
"Micheal Scott" makes his own "Blair witch project"
If you are looking for a scary movie, sadly you will be disappointed. If you are looking for a comedy, sadly you will also be disappointed. If you are looking for anything else, you will sadly be very disappointed. A "found footage" genre film. A lot of dialogue. I really don't know if the theme was to be scary and/or mockumentary, if anything at all.
The main character is Galvin (Micheal Scott). He finds a box of recorded scary tapes and believes full heartedly they are real. He is completely oblivious to the fact no one cares. The world evolves around him, his ego, and his stupidity. His wife could do much better.
The writers seem to change course randomly, panning of the plot here and there. I don't know who thinks this is an +8 score. People writing fake reviews.
The Tomorrow War (2021)
My head hurts..
I don't know where to start...
Production is poor. Why is the dialogue so quiet? I'm not kidding. I have to blast my tv to hear what they are saying while the background sound is loud. Better be ready for CC. Why is there so much dialogue? You could cut a 1/2 hour out of the movie to make it better. Why is there only one scientist/Muri working on the toxin? "It's a one person job.." Why isn't the toxin not studied the moment they return with it? All of a sudden the world just gives up why they return with the toxin? "Ahh the world is over. We can't do anything anymore...every country hates each other, ahh it's all over." Why don't they inject the toxin into the female alien when they find the spaceship rather than the males? Why are they turning to a high school student about volcanos when there are X amount of scientists with stronger intelligence? Why is the father upset when his daughter dies in the future when he has the toxin that can stop the war before the war starts that will stop the daughter from dying in the future? What did I just say...my hurts typing that. Why is the father not getting the job at the beginning of the movie relevant? Why isn't the alien "mother" not captured from the start to find the toxin that can stop the war? How are 4 soldiers capable of capturing the "mother" to do so? They could have found and captured the alien mother with "4 soldiers" from the beginning. Why do they need a toxin when you can just kill the mother with an axe? Why can't Muri just tell him what happened about him leaving her in the past? "The less you know the better.." "I'll tell you at the right time..". Why does the army not tell the soldiers about how the aliens' backs are bullet proof? Why do I never see any of the soldiers reloading their weapons? 20 round mag seems to hold 1,000 shells? Why are the soldiers not trained much sooner after drafted and set into the future? "You don't even want to see what the aliens look like. They are really, really scary.." Wouldn't that kind of being important to see? So you know where to shoot them? 7 days before they are sent into the future they have zero experience in military operations. Who wants a 60 year old or any one with zero military experience with an automatic firearm in the groups? No wonder only 20% return from the war. If they can tell the exact time a person will die, they don't use it to there advantage? Why, why, why?!? I have a handful of other questions. This a poor script. Drags with dialogue. It was painful to watch. I'm pretty sure this movie killed more brain cells than the beers I was drinking. You may actually get more villains to talk by using this movie as a form a torture. Other than the stupidity of this movie, well, it's still really stupid. CGI is cool. I guess you have that going for you.
Tough Guy: The Bob Probert Story (2019)
Flows well. Story is pathetic.
I quality of documentary is good. Towards the end they turn it into a sob story though. I don't feel bad for him. He chose a brutal sport that comes with consequences. He made terrible choices over and over again. All of these high ratings seem to be coming from those who love hockey. Get over it.
Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010)
This movie is really bad. Don't waist your time.
This movie is bad, regardless whether you happen to read the book or not. FYI, I did read it, and it doesn't match the book much at all. I didn't like the book all that much either, so I guess my expectations weren't high to begin with.
There is little to none character development. Most all is explained/created in the first 10-15 minutes in the movie; who is father is, why his stepfather is who he is, mother dying and no one really cares, he's amazing at sword fighting against those who have trained for years. Everything moves so fast. They could have skipped the first 15 minutes and just typed "Percy knows his father. Percy's mother died. He is going on an quest to get her from the underworld."
The cast is really strong, although the acting isn't great. Pretty much a money grab all around. I'm not exactly clear how the were able to make a second. Are they seriously going to make a third?
Coco (2017)
Great visual, but very disappointing overall.
Like most Pixar movies, the visual is great. I didn't watch it 3D, but was still impressed. The story dragged and was predictable. It didn't quite make sense either.
-First 30 minutes explaining how family absolutely hates, hates, hates music. Even has fear of music.
-Main character can go into the dead world seen by the dead while alive. He is in the live world while being alive but can't be seen.
More than anything, when a conflict is based on the lack of communication, it makes for a waist of 1 1/2 of time. Had they just explained that Mr ______ was the family's _____. Mr _____ is related to the family and didn't return because Mr ____ did this terrible thing. The family won't give main character a blessing unless he promises ____, nothing else. He could be trapped in dead world forever and you won't give him a blessing to fix the issue.
It's great Disney/Pixar are creating movies around all cutler, but this is disappointing. So bizarre this movie has such a high rating. Perhaps a 9 or even 10 for visual. Everything else is below a 5.
