James was here but should not have come
17 September 2022
Comedy is obviously subjective but James Acaster's quirkiness just doesn't gel with the format of this show.

It was as painful as watching Meg Ryan being interviewed by Michael Parkinson and if the awkwardness of watching that interview could be transformed into a real life guest on TravelMan, even the real life embodiment of teeth being pulled would be more entertaining.

Apparently my review needs to be 600 characters so even the boring ramblings I now seem to be wandering into would be more entertaining than watching this episode so save yourself and give it a miss.

I bet James Acasters mum wouldn't even watch it so why should you.

Ignore the haters and stick with it
6 May 2022
You could (as others would have you) turn this episode off after a few minutes or ignore it altogether BUT you would be missing out on an important plot device and story development.

Yes, this episode has you thinking to yourself early on, "what am I watching" but suffice to say, any dream/coma/imagination scene will be subjective but get past the 30mins and you'll be given a key development about Q, about how Picard views Q and the possible what and why Q is doing this. It sets the series up for the reveal, the prestige if you will.

TNG and all other Trek series before Discovery and Picard were self contained episodes and this is a series long story arc fitting with the times. Monsters isn't a filler episode but yes it could have been better developed but that shouldn't detract from the last 15mins and how it moves the story arc along. It's a pivotal realisation by Picard.

Stick with it, don't believe everything the haters will tell you.

Joe's here, But should he have come? YES
16 January 2022
Richard was a great host and thoroughly enjoyable to watch but Joe is equally great in a different way.

Where Richard was an aloof person (or if that's a character of his) it was a joy to watch but with Joe, he's more accessible and with Bill Bailey the chemistry between the two really enhanced the episode as it was like two great (and funny) friends on a trip.

The format of the show is still evident with the production team picking out quirky points of interest to keep the show light and fun.

Looking forward to more.

From the Vine (2019)

The trailer should have been the movie
20 June 2021
The 3 minute trailer portrayed a movie about a corporate lawyer who swaps the cut throat board room for the vineyards of Italy.

The trailer was perhaps the cut of the movie that should be been put forward as a short.

Movies such as The Hundred Foot Journey (with Helen Mirren) or A Good Year (with Russell Crowe) are not everyone's cup of tea and it felt From the Vine was aiming for these but got lost in the script, more lost during the filming and that there wasn't enough to piece together a movie that worked.

After the first 10mins the movie gets lost and it then becomes a mashup of scenes that don't feel connected to any story.

Maybe the lead (Marco) was having a breakdown the viewers are not privy too and the Alley McBeal daydreaming scenes were his making sense of what happened during the opening scenes were he fluffs a presentation that we later get shown?

Who knows but the daydreaming was 1990's childlike in its execution and after 25mins I couldn't watch anymore.

Clip Show

Do yourself a favour and skip this one. It's just a clip (recap) show and no ongoing story arc is impacted by skipping it.

Behind Two Ferns should be the title
6 October 2019
As Zach GoLiftaFicus says himself in the opening scenes, this is a behind the Two Ferns film. An introspective.

If you like the webisodes of Between Two Ferns just think of this film as a Parks and Recreation type show about its production and enjoy. As in looking behind the scenes.

If you haven't seen or didn't get the juxtaposition of the source material for the movie then maybe this is a little over your head and a Kardashian based show will be on soon.

Beautiful & emotional

Some films need a review based on context, nuances, actors input etc etc,

Lion just needs two words 'beautiful' and 'emotional'

As good as the film Heat?
21 July 2018
According to these obviously fake positive reviews and IMDB score (of 8 for each of the episodes) of this show, that is as close a rating as classic Heat with DeNiro/Pacino and significantly higher than the Lethal Weapon and Bad Boys films it so desperately wants to be compared too. Smell a rat yet?

You can argue that people liking or disliking is subjective and based on taste (like Marmite) but all credibility of these positive reviews go out the window when they are all 9 and 10 claiming how good the acting and writing are.

Say you liked it fair enough but to claim this is the pinnacle of modern television is outright laughable

No episode of Breaking Bad scored 10 on IMDB
19 June 2018
Given that no episode of Breaking Bad ever scored a 10 and some of the best films in history get scores of 8 it's pretty obvious that only those connected to the show (who can't be objective) are trying their best to turn opinion when all they should do is stay quiet as when people get conned into watching this truly dreadful show they then come on here and give it the rightful criticism it deserves.

It's awful so Clarke/Walters/Love perhaps spend more time on making your next project at least watchable as no real person or critic will get you a second season of this rubbish. Let it go.

Bad Boys and Lethal Weapon were a great place to aim for but It's Sunny In Philadelphia homage to Lethal Weapon was infinitely better and that was a parody within an episode and yet I would rather watch that repeatedly than be witness to this mess of a show.

Ps. Shame on you for taking the Wire's Lester and making him a complete turd in this. You have no shame as well as no talent.

UK car thieves with cartel level automatic weapons?
27 May 2018
This is without doubt one of the poorest TV shows made. Everything is Terrible. The plot, script, acting, editing and continuity. It's too over the top and cringe worthy and is only suitable for people with a mental age under 9.

It's the quality of show that first year non film students would put together for a college show reel.

You have a bunch of car thieves of about 20 members but each one has a machine gun when there is no need to carry a gun, illegal arms are not as common in UK as portrayed in this show and overlooking all these facts the sentence for carrying a gun is more than for stealing a car and never mind that a highly trained police armed response team would take the lead in such situations (and remove the entire premise and need for the show) you have two 'bruvs' who are meant to be the UK equivalent of the FBI yet are as believable as police officers as Jimmy Saville would be described as a 'friend to children.'

Bastille Day (2016)

If this is what stands for a 6/10 IMDB I'm raising my bar to nothing less than 7
8 May 2018
This is at best a 4/10 straight to TV movie so only watch if you have nothing else in mind. It's not deserving of its IMDB 6.3 score in the slightest and surely must have been manipulated or voted up by the Idris Elba fan club At the half way mark you will question whether to stop the movie or see it through. The acting, plot and production all got significantly worse as the movie progressed and even the end credits are no respite from Idris Elba's terribleness as he offers an ear murdering croak of a spoken word song that to be fair does reward the viewer with confirmation that this is truly an awful movie.

Idris you can do better than risk your career leading such a weak script with laughable dialogue and by a writer/director with so little experience which is largely from a few tv shows. If this is what now stands for a 6/10 from IMDB I'm raising my bar to never watching anything under a 7.

Clever writing hits a musical brick wall
9 April 2018
I love this show and have been impressed by the format and both and quality of writing and acting throughout the seasons right up to Story 3 (Animals) of this episode. WTF?

The only thing that they could do now to annoy the viewers more would be an 90's sitcom era clip show of character flashbacks.
