Mare of Easttown (2021)
Kate Winslet at her best..
I'm only two episodes in and I'm loving this already, there's a few twists, turns and dark secrets slowly unveiling but not giving you to much, to keep you hooked and wanting the next episode.
I like the pace of it, getting to know different characters and showing their backgrounds, revealing past events and them gradually coming together.
Kate Winslet is brilliant in this, there's not really much I can fault about this actress, she's always been solid in her performances and just seems to get even better as she gets older.
I'm not one of those people that like to watch week to week episodes, I like to binge watch them or wait till it's finished and watch it one after the other but as there was not a lot on to watch, I gave it a try and so far, I've not been disappointed..
I only hope, that at the end, that they don't leave it open or have an unresolved ending where the viewer has to come to their own conclusion, that type of thing, that can be both annoying and frustrating, for me anyway, hence the 9 score, I'm waiting till the end for a final verdict.
Spontaneous (2020)
It's Spontaneously just crap..
After watching this I can understand now why it took almost 3 years for a distribution company (Paramount) to eventually pick this up, I believe Netflix bought the original distribution rights but didn't actually broadcast it and sold it off to Paramount.. because it's trash.. it says a lot about this film if even the the Queen of Netflix (Langford) cannot have Netflix release it and they release a lot of crap..
It's not funny because it tries to hard to be so, I didn't laugh at all, maybe because of the situation the world is in right now with certain similarities and coincidences with it, (even the high school is called 'Covington'..) so it was probably wasn't the best time to actually release it.. no thought process gone into that then, well done Paramount.. not exactly what I'd call light hearted humour in these troubling times, it tries a lot to be humorous one minute, then serious the next.. is it a Romantic/Horror or Romantic/Comedy or a mixture of all three? Who knows.. I don't think the director knows either, as it switches very quickly between all three genres.. or it's not funny because it's simply, not funny..
Langford and Plummer don't seem to fit, can't quite put my finger on it as to what it is but it feels weird and awkward between them, their characters are total opposites, I don't know if it's just their acting abilities, their characters or poor direction, I'm not sure but I didn't find either of them humorous, not in the slightest, they also have zero fake chemistry.. plus they aren't kids, they're both actually in their 20's in this.. well maybe Plummer wasn't but they don't even look like high schoolers.. it can only last so long that they, especially typecast Langford, can play teenager type roles and this isn't one of them..
As acting goes, Langford tries, idiotically and a bit cringe, to be this loud, hip, cool, don't give a crap with attitude type chick, with flaky parents, this role has been overplayed so many times now and also way better, there's plenty of face palm type moments from her, I've seen Plummer in one or two decent films but he's only in them as a side note, to just fill the margins.. kind of like Langford has been in the few films I've seen her in.. And how old is Haley Law? She's almost 30, playing a high schooler and she looks that old in this too.. nice casting..
Don't waste your money on buying/renting ($15/$10) this, I was lucky enough not to do that.. if so, ask for a refund.. as it's being released as a full price 'cinema' release on VOD now so just simply wait for Amazon Prime to eventually release it as a normal Prime exclusive release to viewers in a few months.. even then, if you've got a spare 90 minutes to waste, watch something more entertaining..
The Babysitter: Killer Queen (2020)
Rushed because of the originals popularity
I liked the first one, it was comical in a way that it was bad but good if you understand..
McG has done some very good movies in the past but this one, it's been rushed because the first one was so popular, so the script writing is poor this time around and doesn't have that grab effect to continue watching like the first one did..
I would of given it at least 5 stars but the one thing that completely ruins it, is Bella Thorne, she is complete trash in this movie, her acting is borderline nauseating, how has she has got away with an acting career astonishes me, she tries so hard to be funny it's painful and embarrassing to watch because to put it bluntly, she can't act and she's not funny, not at all
Car Masters: Rust to Riches (2018)
Obviously some fakery here...
If you're looking for a realistic car resto show then this isn't the one, I just finished season 1 and it's about as fake as Constance's hair extensions, I have no problem with a woman being a mechanic/fabricator, fair play to that but she doesn't even get her hands dirty, then the next minute she has oil everywhere from nowhere and doesn't even touch an engine or even chip one of fake nails in the process, they've obviously put her in for show..
Some of the end products just look poor quality and tacky, or obviously, show cars.. and you don't even see a lot of the restoration work, apparently they put in about 20-30k, if that, then claim they sold it for £150g's+.. not the best choice to kick off a new series with a supped up 'smart' car.. as their first project, they're all the same, 'bring in car, can't fix it, times running out, miraculously fix it, job done' next episode
There are a lot better shows, like this one, out there..
Rust Valley Restorers (2018)
Harmless fun not to be taken to seriously..
If you're into the more serious car restoration shows then this is not for you.. Yes some of it is obviously scripted but it's just a bit harmless fun..
There's not to much of the restoration shown when rebuilding but I love to see the end product of these old cars bringing them back to their former glory..
Some people are going to like it some are not but I liked it.. I've seen a lot worse crap produced from Netflix..
Everest (2015)
Everest..
I loved this movie, based on a true story.
I wasn't a big fan of Jason Clarke until I watched this, but he did a solid job in it, some very good performances throughout, some nice shots and the scenery is great and very well directed..
I went on to read 'Into thin air' by Jon Krakauer, who was one of the survivors of this fateful expedition, very good book if you want a more personal account of what happened and some nice photography in it too..
After Life (2019)
Emotional Rollercoaster..
What can I say about this series that hasn't already been said..
Ricky Gervais is just brilliant in this, best series he's done so far.. one minute you're laughing, the next you're in tears.. Kerry Godiman, plays his late wife Lisa, is outstanding, with some great supporting cast too..
I couldn't fault this at all, both seasons are excellent.. Netflix does produce a lot of crap of late (this is solely down to Gervais's excellent scriptwriting) but on occasion we get something that shines through.. After Life does that brilliantly..
Line of Duty (2012)
Amazing series..
I know this tv series has been out a while but I've literally binge watched the entire 5 seasons as once I started I couldn't stop watching..
Martin Compston is outstanding in this throughout, I couldn't fault him.. Seasons 2-3 are the highlights of this show so I have to add that Keeley Hawes, a very good actress, was just brilliant to watch, her character was excellent, I'd of liked her to of been in it all the way through..
If I have one gripe, Vicky McClure's character, Kate Fleming, was a bit annoying and after time she started to grate on me, if Keeley Hawes had of played this role instead it would of been a lot better, that's why I give it a 9 instead of a 10
The Fall (2013)
Brilliant first season..
I've just rewatched this series again on Netflix having watched it on the BBC when it was originally broadcasted 7 years ago (season 1..)
Gillian Anderson is faultless a long side Jamie Dornan, especially in the first season.. and the only reason I'm giving it an 8, and not higher, is because season 2-3 are a bit long winded and kind of drag on a bit, but overall a very good series..
Derry Girls (2018)
Hilariously funny..
I just finished watching this and it was hilarious, I couldn't stop laughing, I wish they would of been longer episodes or longer series..
Cursed (2020)
I feel 'Cursed' after watching this.. (And 'bots' giving fake reviews)
'If you look at all the reviews that are giving it 10/10.. 95% of them are all 'new' or mainly 'really old and unused' accounts that are just 'bots, Langford 'stans' or the same people being asked or paid to give a single or several, 'fake' reviews on this just to try to increase its rating.
Apologies for this lengthy review beforehand.
Side note: Yes I did watch all 10 episodes, hoping that it would get better, sadly, it does not. It's about 8 episodes to long so they should of just made this into a movie or a limited series and left it at that, it's not one of those shows that keeps you enthralled, on the edge of your seat and wanting the next episode, far from it and it's definitely not going to be a series you are going to remember or stick with you after a while.. I have to ask now but why does Netflix continue to cancel and cut short, extremely good shows but then go on to invest, produce and give multiple seasons to shows like this?
Anyway, to begin, Quote: 'The sword chooses a Queen' and then a 'Queen becomes legend'?! The people of her tiny village choose her as a Queen, near the end of the series, well the dozen that are left alive that is and that's only because of the sword, the sword does not choose her, her mother gives it to her, the sword does not lead her, she is not drawn to it by its power, she obtains it by pure coincidence and then goes on to lose it or hands it over to others for most of the time anyway while skipping off on her over extended lofty quest to return the Sword to Merlin as per her dying mothers last wish.. And how does she become legend? She doesn't even have the sword that long and really does nothing of any significance to even earn that title.
Nothing really happens from episodes 2-9.. Nimue has magical powers but barely uses them when they are needed most, like watching on as almost her entire village gets slaughtered but uses them to alter the outcome in a game of dice!? She spends about 8 episodes hiding, whining, running away or crying instead of being this apparent badass 'powerful warrior Queen'.. she doesn't really, stand and fight, at all, like we were lead to believe she was going to do in the running up to the start of this series and when she does actually use the sword, she just swings it around as if it's way to heavy for her, against skilled opponents and prays for 'hit and hope' moments, I believe that she was actually taught how to 'sword fight' before production started, so was she intentionally taught how to wield it badly?
The book itself is aimed at young adults so they would have done better by sticking to that, although in some scenes you'd think it was for children. At one point I was half expecting a few animated birds and a menagerie of other animals to suddenly appear as Langford bursts into song.. What child doesn't love a Disney princess right?
The acting is bad, the script/dialog is shocking, the CGI, especially the Wolves part, is poor, the choreography is shameful and all the clan 'Fay' have different accents and most of the extras with actual dialog cannot act at all.
I believe they chose the main lead, Katherine Langford, due to her popularity, definitely not because of her acting abilities.
I'm from England and her mediocre attempt at an English accent is atrocious and laughable, it changes so many times in this series.. we see in episode 1, she tries way to hard with it and over annunciates everything, then as we progress, she just becomes lazy with it and her accent constantly shifts as if she seems to forget it, the reason being, she simply cannot maintain the same accent throughout, it's really poor, messy English. They either need a better dialect coach or to put it bluntly, a better actress.. as some good looks, a couple of fake accents, the two facial expressions she uses in literally everything she's done and the first Season of 13 Reasons Why, which is not good and is the only reason she is the lead on this is by riding off the coattails of its teen popularity, as Season 2 onwards are complete trash. Everything else she has been in, her acting has not been good, she is just way overrated, very two dimensional and has the range of a teaspoon, all she seems to play is whiny, mopey teenagers, 13RW, Knives Out, Love, Simon. EndGame? sorry, you can't really count that last one, deleted.. and she's only in others to just simply fill the margins, and from the start, this role was far to big for her to take on the main lead and she can barely carry a scene without it being painful and embarrassing to watch at times, there are far more talented actresses out there that could of filled this part successfully.
As for Skarsgård, someone ought to let him know as he thinks he's still on the set of Vikings, if you've seen it, you know.. either that or a poor mans Jack Sparrow, he can't seem to make up his mind on that one, moody Sharman basically spends most of the series just prancing and somersaulting about like a child that's had to much sugar, he needs to calm down a bit and Terrell, he's an emotionless plank and couldn't be more wooden if he tried.
As we progress we find out that the Weeping Monk is actually Lancelot and the bad child actor who plays Squirrel is Percival, Uther is portrayed as a whiny, petulant child that acts like he's thrown his toys out the pram, Arthur is a thief, a gambler and a liar and Merlin the so called Wizard, is now a drunkard and apparently the true wielder of the Sword of Power.. Ohh and he (Merlin) is also Nimue's father!?!.. Wait, hold on, what!? who wrote this stuff?? none of this makes any sense or relates to any of the Arthur/Excalibur/Lady of the Lake legendary folklore tale, it's ok to do a re-tale of this mythology but if you do, it has to be good, actually the only thing it had relating to the story were the characters names, so it just looks like you've just used the characters names to attract viewers, that was not going to be enough to stop this car crash I'm afraid and by episode 5, if not earlier, it gets more painful as you continue watching and has a willingness to end and I found myself, quite a few times, pausing it just to see how long I'd got left to watch.
There are so many different plot lines in this, some pop up from nowhere without resolution or closure and some carry on way to long and make no sense. I think most of the budget must of gone on Miller's animation contributions that pop up half a dozen times an episode.. If you're a fan of Miller's work then you can see he's obviously gone for the pay check over his reputation on this one.. Apparently this was supposed to be The Witcher meets Game of Thrones.. (maybe season 8 of GoT if you understand what I mean?) but it's none of that.. it was just never seems to get going.. There is virtually zero chemistry between the two main leads, Langford and Terrell, it's just woefully poor and the one song contributed to the soundtrack by Katherine Langford, she sings it in this terrible, fake American accent, (She knows she's Australian right? Just checking and she's obviously trying, very poorly, to mimic Lana Del Rey, it's atrocious) they put it in over their one passionless sex scene, its cringe and tacky.
The best part of this series is the 2 minute 'misleading' trailer running up to it.. It's the kind of series where you could get up mid way through an episode, go do something more exciting like, watch paint dry, come back two episodes later, and not miss anything.
The reason why I gave this such a low rating, is not because of it's diversity, empowerment of women or the LGBTQ+ aspect etc that's been deliberately forced into it, that doesn't bother me, this is the world we live in nowadays, take it or leave it, in the end it's not going to change and I understand why with this, that not everyone is going to be happy about it and it's not just because of the bad acting or poor script/dialogue etc, It's because you took the Arthurian mythology, yes I know it's mythology but everyone knows the basis of it, it's legend, you took that and deliberately turned it completely on its head and so far from its original concept and thought it would be a good idea, if this series had been well executed or even if you'd not used any of the actual characters from it at all and made it it's own, people may or could see it differently, I said may, because there is so much more wrong with it as I've already mentioned but you didn't, this series doesn't know what it wants to be, or where it's going.. it felt like they'd just made a lot of it up as they've gone along, the age in which this is supposed to be set, the costumes, backdrops etc don't fit, I know it's mythology but it probably would of been best if you'd of sort the advice off a true Historian due to actual historical figures mentioned, costumes and timelines etc, to actually give you actual facts to fit the era it's supposed to be set in, the majority of it, it just feels rushed, it's not polished and it drags on for far to long, I'm a fan of the mythology, I grew up with it but I'm open to new concepts, new takes on it etc but this has not been thought out well or had any idea how badly its been received and for most of it, it felt, at times, like I was watching one of those poorly scripted, cheap TV movies, so if you like those, you'll love this.
It seems to be doing well in a few countries by the looks of it, do not be fooled, if you know how Netflix's algorithms work, you literally only have to watch less than 10 minutes of it, for it to count as watching the entire 10 episodes. It would be interesting to see the figures of how many viewers actually made it to the end?
Netflix has obviously put a lot of money into this production but if they have any sense, they'll cancel this while they're not ahead but judging by the ending, it has been left open for another season, please don't..!! it is not good but we know that they do like a money cash cow.
All the Bright Places (2020)
Too young to burn..
I liked this movie, I've read some of the reviews and they're quite mixed, mainly from people that have read the book initially then watched the movie, and no, I myself, I've not read the book, but I shall pick it up..
It's always hard to write a review if you've read the book first.. especially if the book resonates with you.. and hard to adapt the book to screen while trying to do the book justice..
I liked the casting, Elle Fanning and Justice Smith I thought were very good..
The ending does pull at the heart strings a bit, unless you don't have one.. it's sad, heart warming and tragic..
It touches on some much needed subjects like mental illness, bipolar and suicidal tendencies.. but there are some warm moments to it.. it's not all sad..
If you've not read the book first, watch it, then grab the book later..
Just to add, don't overlook our children's issues and problems.. as a parent myself they are 'all the colours in one, at full brightness'
The Hustle (2019)
Yet another poor adaptation of a classic..
This is just another one of Hollywood's poor attempts to star an all female lead cast again, taken from an original 80's classic, 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' staring Micheal Caine and Steve Martin..
I generally don't mind these two actresses, I can take them or leave them.. But Anne Hatherway's attempt at an over the top, 'posh' British accent is tediously annoying and bad, I'm British and no one talks like that.. and it's starting to look like she'll take any poorly scripted movies these days..
Wilson basically has no range and plays the same character in all her movies.. she was funny in her first couple of movies but then you realise she's the same in all of them and it gets old pretty fast..
If you know the storyline from Dirty Rotten Scoundrels then don't bother with this movie.. Better still, watch that instead, it's better, and actually funny, and if you're looking for something fun and entertaining, then 'don't' watch this movie either.. it's bad, poorly acted and directed..
Knives Out (2019)
Nothing new..
The best bits of this film are the first 10 minutes and the last 10 minutes.. the ending is cliché.. nothing we've not seen before.. 'lead actress takes phone call from hospital and subsequently tricks killer into confession, then informs killer that his last victim has regained consciousness and is willing to give a statement.. meanwhile witnesses/cops hear killers confession while having their phone on 'record' to capture said confession.. but then informs killer that the victim had actually died but by then it's already to late..' It goes on way to long, it's a poor adaptation of the film 'Clue'
As performances go, Daniel Craig with his dodgy southern American accent is bad.. stick to James Bond..
Jamie Lee Curtis and Toni Collette came out tops in this in my opinion.. they normally always perform well..
Katherine Langford is so wooden and reads a script like it's just been handed to her and and comes across like a cardboard cut out.. (nothing has shone from her since Season 1 of the dreadful show, 13 Reasons Why, and that's the only reason she's here riding off the fame of that one season as Season 2 is trash)
It's also a shame you don't see enough of Christopher Plummer as he's the star performer in this film..
But to many stars and not enough screen time for the best of them..
Believe it or not I wanted to like this film.. it's done well at the box office, decent reviews, took the money but I think I expected to much, it's way overhyped and nothing you've not seen before..
You (2018)
Addictive viewing..
I loved this show, binged watched both seasons.. second season being actually better than the first in my opinion..
Very well written, acted and directed.. another good show by Netflix..
Togo (2019)
Togo..
This simply was an amazing film, from start to finish, beautifully shot, acted, directed and produced.. I could not fault it in anyway..
The sheer will and determination of these beautiful dogs goes beyond belief..
Based on true events, It's unfortunate that Togo did not get the recognition he so rightly deserved but it was never about that.. the distance Togo and his team covered, of 264 miles, compared to an average of just 31 miles from the other teams, in those conditions was truly unbelievable
I was heartbroken at the end, myself, a fully grown man was brought to tears by this film.. but I'm glad he got to live out his life happy and peacefully..
I would recommend this film, for you just to see what they achieved is enough..
Unbelievable (2019)
Unbelievable..
This is an amazing mini series from start to finish, very well acted, scripted, produced and directed.. some stellar performances throughout.. i was hooked from the first episode, I couldn't fault it, better than your average routine CSI's or SVU's etc, Netflix has produced some turkey's in the past, but on occasion they give us something that needs praise for, so thank you Netflix for this one..
Merritt Wever and Toni Collette were outstanding and work very well together.. not to mention Kaitlyn Dever and Danielle MacDonald who's performances also need recognition.. this definitely deserves another season in my opinion..
Frenzy (2018)
Trash...
This 'B' movie is shockingly bad, I recognise a couple of these 'Z' lister actors but that's it, they are just poor.. you get more range from the inflatable dingy and the CGI sharks, which both put in a far better performance than these actors..
That's 90 minutes of my life I'm not getting back, actually that's not true, I didn't make through to the end.. I was hoping the sharks would save us and finish them all off first..
The Misguided (2018)
Bad all round...
Shockingly bad, even Katherine Langford's acting couldn't save this.. and she's not even that good in this trash to be honest.. I was expecting a lot more with her in it..
Dull, boring and cheaply shot, with a budget of about $20, that's 90 minutes of my life I can't get back..
I would not recommend this movie to anyone..
Love, Simon (2018)
Way overhyped..
I really don't know where to start with this movie..
Because it's not good.. But I'm not going to write a lengthy review about it because it's honestly not worth the time..
It's so dated, over the top and cheesy, the acting is credible.. by that, I mean Simon's sister, who we barely see throughout, stole the show..
Nick Robinson, our protagonist, seems awkward and very unconvincing in playing this role.
Aussie Katherine Langford and her questionable American accent tries way to hard it's actually painful to watch sometimes..
And the others, I can't remember because the acting wasn't good..
You've tried, very poorly, to make it into a 80's John Hughes style comedy and just stuck a gay teen in, and it fails miserably..
I can see why it could be popular but it could have been made so much better..
I've read the book and its good.. I don't know what they were trying to do here..
It felt cheaply made, not funny at all.. and very predictable..
If you are looking for something a bit more realistic and credible, for the LGBTQ community, there are a few films out there that are well made and more understandable than this trash I'm afraid..
Dumplin' (2018)
Dumplin'
I loved this film.. the extremely talented and beautiful Danielle MacDonald is awesome and steals this.. it's lighthearted and funny, I really enjoyed it..
Somewhere Between (2017)
Poorly done..
The synopsis of the show looked really good and they had a chance to do something great here.
But the acting is barely credible, it feels like one of those cheap TV movies..
This could be have been so good, made it dark and edgy, but it's shockingly bad.
I really wanted to like this but just barely got through the first episode it's that painful to watch, not because of the idea of the show but the acting is so bad..
I have seen a couple of these actors in previous films/shows and they have been a lot better than this.. what went wrong? And the child actor, I'm sorry but she's terrible, you find her more annoying than to feel sorry for her, it's really disappointing because I was looking forward to watching this..
With some of the quality that Netflix has released previously, I don't know how it got past the screening process.. there couldn't of been much thought process put into it and the budget costs must of what seemed to equate to the price of McDonald's happy meal..
Don't waste your time, unless you like bad acting, and poorly scripted TV movies..
13 Reasons Why (2017)
Season 1 now Season 2.. (didn't bother reviewing Seasons 3-4 as they are just trash)
Firstly Season 1..
When I first watched this show it was a couple of months later upon its release and was unaware of it already increasing popularity, to be honest I was glad of that..
When I read the short synopsis it looked intriguing, something other than your regular high school drama..
And the issues it was covering, I thought this was something that needed to be done.
What I mean is, even though it shouldn't be, suicide, bullying and sexual assault can be very touchy subjects to broadcast, and still are unfortunately.
They had an amazing opportunity to make something really good here, and push those boundaries where others have feared to tread.
Now, And i don't think I'm on my own here, but initially I was suckered into it, by that, feeling sorry for Hannah, especially at the beginning, but upon reflection I think this was their aim..
What I got, unfortunately, was extremely disappointing to say the least.
What was produced was an over exaggerated, romanticised, teen 'tragic love story'. The actors/directors etc have said this is not glorification of suicide!? If they cannot see that it isn't then they're blind or stupid or both..
The very major and most important issues missed or skipped over, are all the other factors that come with it like, mental health status, anxiety, extreme depression etc, none of this was covered.
The main character, Hannah, came to school the next day, everyday to the end, with perfect hair, nails, skin etc and showed no signs of any of these symptoms, so very unbelievable. She had everything going for her, she was smart, intelligent and a loving family etc, some of the reasons why didn't even warrant being on the tapes in the first place, and some were on there because of her own mistakes and stupidity, and not that of the other 'victims' of her self righteousness, or the use of her common sense. She constantly shifts the blame on to everyone else but herself, Hannah is simply her own worst enemy at times.. What I find personally wrong, she is so eager to point the finger at everyone except herself, and leave these tapes but does not take the time to leave a note for her loving and giving parents.. how do you think they're going to take this? No note, nothing, they're just going to blame themselves for the rest of their lives for not seeing the signs or thinking it's something they have done or could of prevented..
I have since read the book and Asher, the author, does none of this, even to the point where we see it is Hannah's fault at times, the book barely touches on the Hannah/Clay relationship, unlike the show itself where it's a major part of this romanticism.
Actually the only character that showed true premise of the symptoms of suicide and actual attempt at suicide on the show was Alex, more so than Hannah herself, but his reason for being in the tapes was stupid, not enough for him to try and commit suicide himself.
Also Clay goes from this socially awkward boy to this teen angst vigilante, and Hannah's hero, who she basically berates and leads him on through the whole show, even after her death, not in the book she doesn't, how she didn't see the 'signs' that Clay actually liked her at the beginning is unbelievable, but is quick to jump on all the jocks as soon as they look her way. And then to top it off, Clay had actually done nothing wrong..
Hannah also sits in a closet while her friend gets raped, does nothing, says nothing to Jessica or the police, blames Justin, not Bryce initially, hiding behind a rapist makes you no better, then later in the show, magically walks across town and finds herself at Bryce's House, what are the odds, gets into the hot tub in her underwear with said rapist and has a nice chat with him, then gets raped herself, doesn't even say no to him, blames herself for that, then also says nothing to anyone again..
Courtney is gay, and is embarrassed about that, but can't come out to her two gay dads?? This show has so many unbelievable plot holes..
Clay's character on the show does not relate the the traits of being socially awkward what's so ever, also not in the book either, I find it shocking that Asher himself agreed any of this, having being part of the shows production team.
As you also see, very vaguely, blink and you'll miss it, is that Clay himself is taking medication for his one depression.. so all this would have definitely done him more harm than good..
As stated by some of the cast, directors etc have quoted, this is purely entertainment purposes, which I find disgusting, as there's nothing entertaining about suicide, rape and bullying. And this was no where near beautifully done as also quoted.
There are way to many plot holes, and lose ends which as been left open, on purpose, for another season, which they'd already completed writing by the looks of it because production has already started on it barely just over a month of season ones release, so it's basically a money spinner which I also find extremely vile and morally wrong.
If they'd actually gone with Asher's original ending where she actually survives her attempt it would have portrayed a stronger message that there is hope, and help is always there. And left it at that instead of adding another season to it.
No matter how they spun it, it's going to relate to many in some ways and that's the plan, however, how they portrayed it, that's a different matter.. I dread to think how they'll continue this for another season though, especially since they no longer needed Asher himself for season 2..
I am actually sorry and more so, disappointed that I couldn't like this show, because it could have been done so brilliantly
Finally I would not recommend this show to people, not as much as its glorification and extremely poor attempt to portray all of these major issues, it's because it's dangerous pending on your own state of mind.. especially someone that is at all not in the right place at the moment, as there's nothing romantic about suicide, as you are lead to believe here, and there's always help out there for you, suicide is not the only option, there are not enough trigger warnings on this show to warrant this.
Now Season 2..
What have you done to this show? My opinion of the first wasn't that good, but this season, wow, it's trash.. you made it into a whinney teenage high school drama/who dunnit' type thing and dragged it out for 13 episodes, we definitely didn't need another 13 reasons, especially in this way.. it was so slow and boring, season 1 at least got you watching from episode 1, and lost it's way during because of its poor portrayal of the subjects as mentioned earlier in my review, but this season, it was so dull to start with.. so many things just didn't add up or even match season 1 at all..
You moved so far away from the original source material and went
in a completely wrong direction, I wouldn't be surprised if Asher (author) isn't crying in his sleep about it, you took a brilliantly written book and turned it into something completely and so definitely wrong..
I'm sorry, but Yorkey (writer/creator) has demolished this show and Netflix has just made it into a ratings money cash grab..
They should have left it with season 1.. And who's idea for the Hannah/Zac relationship in this? It makes no sense either, she doesn't mention the relationship on the tapes in S1, which in season 2 is one of the reasons!!? And some of Zac's actions towards Hannah in S1, are in a bad and tormenting way show no signs of an impending love affair, so unrealistic.. This was just added for some poor attempt to show some sort of hope, love, lighten it up type thing, it's poor.. a totally unnecessary relationship, it was not needed, at all.. Zac was initially one of Hannah's tormentors and instigators and also stood by while she was getting harassed also being one of the original 13 reasons.. so this does not add up..
To add, parents, please do not let your child watch this, or even watch it with them, it's not a PG, and should not be shown to any troubled teen, or a young teen below 18 years old, supervised or not, unlike the actors tell you at the beginning of season 2, it's a bad portrayal of suicide and zero attempt of prevention either..
Edit: S3-S4 are utter trash, don't bother
