The Soul of Success: The Jack Canfield Story (2017)
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this documentary.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this documentary. I have read many of the Chicken Soup books yet did not know very much about the author behind them. His story is insightful and inspiring. This documentary does a wonderful job at highlighting his struggles and overall determination to succeed. The messages in his books become more powerful after watching this film. Well done!
D'Inked: A Tattoo Removal Documentary (2017)
This documentary is very well structured
This documentary is very well structured. They do a great job at telling a story while being very informative and entertaining. I was impressed with the in depth character interviews and the researched insight into the culture surrounding tattoos and their removal. I also appreciated the highlighted effort to show the importance of researching your options and being educated about the decisions you make when it comes to your body.
Spent (2017)
Vintage Dark Comedy
Spent has a fun vintage vibe with a clever and artistic approach to the cinematography. The story line is quirky and full of unique characters that help this dark comedy work. The character choices are bold and somewhat questionable but it lends to the idea that they aren't trying to take themselves too seriously and ads to the comedy in the film. The pacing is a bit slow and could have used some trimming but overall the surprising twists and ending tied it together nicely.
The Last Taboo (2013)
An honest and intimate look at relationships
I enjoyed the way this film addressed intimacy in relationships where one partner has a disability. It was honest, thoughtful and touching. They did a great job highlighting the idea that a disability does not mean you have abated relationships and intimate experiences.
Ekaj (2015)
Raw and real storytelling
Ekaj is very raw and real storytelling. It almost feels like a documentary as it explores the lives of the characters. It pulls you in a very heart wrenching way and you can't help but feel for the characters. The acting is fairly consistent throughout. There are a few times where I was pulled out of the story but overall the direction and cinematography are impressive for an independent film. I'd recommend taking the time to watch this film!
