Air Force: The Movie - Selagi Bernyawa (2022)
Worst special forces ever
Lots of action, but also lots of melodrama. The special effects are actually not that bad and the units and equipment in this tale in a fictitious country are pretty on accurate for the Malaysian side.
Problem is the story is flat. There's the humanitarian doctor. The "critical of the military" reporter. The token Whiney character. The stoic commander and his band of hyper emotional commandos.
Of course there's a fairly chaste love story and the rivalry between brother in law and brother in said chaste relationship.
I will admit I had to fast forward a bunch of parts since there was a lot of excessive emotional outbursts superfluous to the story at hand.
The movie reminded me of the worst of modern Chinese and Indian cinema with it's kind of campy hyper patriotism, cardboard characters and boring "mission accomplished"-"roger that" type dialogue coupled with a lot of sentimentality.
Air Warriors (2014)
Pierre Sprey!
This whole series is geared towards people who are Novices to both military history and aviation history. All of the history and dialogue is like a bad military recruiting commercial.
In the episode about the F-16, they interview the self proclaimed "chief engineer" of the F-16 viper, Pierre Sprey. He is allowed to push his misinformed "reformism" without challenge, and allowed to both criticize the changes to the F-16 that made it an effective strike platform and take credit for the successful implementation of the platform.
The episode goes from "we wanted to build this dogfighter...that they put a bunch of bombs and avionics on" to "look this plane lead a successful strike on an Iraqi nuclear plant" by the Israelis.
This whole series is like that. It's great for 8 year olds or drunk boomers.
Greyhound (2020)
Not U571
Anybody that puts a review up that invokes any of the the elements of the movie "U-571" should have their review pulled down.
The movie "U-571" has very little actual history and is the worst of what Hollywood WW2 films are all about.
Like many films, "Greyhound" shouldn't be compared to paler weaker films of the genre.
Greyhound Attack (2019)
Sad portrayal of skies of WW2 Europe
Why is it that these DIY movies seemed compelled to find elderly diabetics to play major roles? It's the same reason that most Civil War reenactments suck. All overweight dudes with too much money to waste.
The Irishman (2019)
Based on lies
This whole story is based on a book which is largely based on fabrications of a dead Teamster officer. Literally no one in the Teamsters, mob, journalists , federal and local law enforcement believe Sheeran to have committed the Crimes he claims to have.
We are also lead to believe Sheeran was involved in both the Bay of Pigs affair as well as the assassination of JFK. Maybe he was there on the moon for the landings as well and the birth of baby Jesus?!
The aging tech is a joke. My favourite scene is Pesci's character (who looks 70) calling DeNiro's character ( who looks 70) "kid" while he helps him with his truck.
The movie is too long and to be packed with all these lies makes it all the more painful.
Merry Happy Whatever (2019)
Laughtracks suck
Love this show. Please get rid of the laugh track.
Alone We Fight (2018)
Nice uniforms, horrible story and film
Everyone in this movie is 40-50 years old. The movie is set in the Hurtgen forest in December 1944 but the looks more like august 1944: there are green leaves on the trees and weeds everywhere. The story is stiff and concocted. Uniforms are fairly authentic except when there seems to be a Wehrmacht soldier hanging out with SS troopers in SS camo. All these Nazis are 50 years old. Find some actors under 20 FFS already. Avoid this film at all costs.
Behind the Curve (2018)
Liked the documentary, sad for our future
Learned a lot about seemingly intelligent people who are living Dunning-Kruger every day. Hope these people never get traction.
