Norbit (2007)
Good, solid movie.
It is unbelievable why so many comments bash this movie. Murphy - again - is showing his versatility by playing three characters who could not be more different. The humour is at times crude but well worth a laugh, and you have to applaud Murphy for simply doing away with all this PC non-sense. Movies are art, and art does not need to be PC. And guess what - fat people who are not ill but chose to be fat, like that Rasputia character, *are* disgusting.
What really worries me though is that wannabe "comedies" which make you cringe with pain (think "Borat") get sky-high scores while this one gets bashed.
People, get a life.
Transporter 2 (2005)
Not enjoyable at all.
The reason why - unlike many of the other commentators - I did not enjoy this movie was because it made apparent again why movies by French writers/directors just don't cut it. Others have quoted Bond as similar, mainly in the action scenes. Yet the most important difference between a Bond movie and especially Luc Besson movies is: Watching Bond movies, I *can* forget about physics. Here I could not. In Bond movies, watching Bond do physically impossible tricks/stunts/you name it is *fun*; here, it just is ridiculous. I guess the reason is the overall plot of Bond movies, which serves as a the glue to "bond" all the action into an entertaining whole, some better, some worse. The plot is so stereotype here that the boringness only is exceeded by the nonsense of the action. Worse, the supposedly funny parts are even more ridiculous, and just make you wish that the movie would end already.
Stay away unless you like Hong Kong action movies. Of that kind of action this movie has plenty, and if you even find this kind of action funny, then you might be able to get more out if Transporter 2 than I did.
One final remark: The name could have been "Ransom 2", "Man on Fire 2" or just "Auto Race 325", it wouldn't have made a difference.
Edison (2005)
Who on earth is Justin Timberlake??
The movie itself is not too bad; many comments have pointed out the obvious flaws of the script, but it is watchable. What really gives me the creeps though is that people like Justin Timberlake even get cast for movies, and on top of that for movies like this one. I have to admit I had never heard the man's name before watching this, but the very instant he appeared I was just plain annoyed. The voice is crap, the face is a bad rip-off of Legolas, the posture is horrible, and he cannot even properly coordinate all three of them. Said to say, I was delighted when he got jumped after leaving the disco, because I was hoping from then on it would be Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey only. Too bad I was wrong. These two and also LL Cool J give a very decent performance, and they are the main reason I give this a 4.
I see many upcoming movies with the little Timberlake cast... and cannot believe it.
