Ma (I) (2019)

Super entertaining but illogical
6 June 2019
You need to see Ma because of Octavia Spencer. Not to mention, insane events occur that make you squirm and laugh because of their absurdity, which is the reaction the filmmakers appear to be going for.

Admittedly, many of the decisions made by characters are stupid and take you out of the movie, yet they do not ruin the watching experience because the events on screen are entertaining. Also, the film begins a little dull, but it doesn't affect the entertainment value once Ma enters the story.

Overall, the film is not going to be placed in any artistic film museum, but it will keep your eyes glued to the screen even if they roll occasionally.

This movie made me feel like mr. Fahrenheit
5 November 2018
As a musician, the hardest thing for me is to let my music speak for me. I'm a little introverted, but after seeing this I cannot help but feel like breaking out of my shell and form the next Queen after watching this great film! The movie had flaws if you want to nitpick, but it's quite entertaining. Every character felt real and fleshed out, and you couldn't help but feel for Freddie Mercury. The sound was incredible, especially at the end, see it in IMAX! I wouldn't be surprised if Bohemian Rahpsody was re-released again and hit #1 after this great movie. Maybe I'm speaking in hyperbole, but this is truly how I feel after watching this!

Give it a chance
26 July 2018
If you're looking for a fun time at the movies and don't want a plot quite as intense as mission impossible, I suggest you check this out. The irreverent humor and many references will keep even the most avid cynic of this show intrigued. What this movie has that too many adult comedies lack is a heart. I was genuinely surprised that I actually cared about Robin's ups and downs throughout the movie due to the surprisingly well-written story. Yes, the movie has the occasional fart joke, but it's not overdone. In fact, the movie is quite aware that those types of jokes aren't for everyone, so it often utilizes them to make fun of itself. It is at times a little predictable, but it has enough going for it that makes the story thematically consistent. It even references it's own cliches and predictableness in a funny way. My only main complaint is the pacing. I think the main reason for this is that the story appears to have its conflict resolve, and it takes awhile for the story to pick up steam again. Comedies can often get overly cynical, but this movie looks to appeal to the heart of the fanboy and dreamer in all of us and accomplishes it. Even if you don't like the movie, I suggest you stick around for the end credits scene because it's got something older fans can get excited for.

Source Code (2011)
7/10
Simple but effective
24 January 2018
Despite its short run time, Source Code manages to cover a great deal of exciting scenes and twists (some more predictable than others, but they are exciting and warranted nonetheless). Its best to go in knowing a minimal amount of what is going to happen. In fact, the movie itself is minimal, but by answering things that are usually important to the story at a rapid pace, the minimalist effect works well. Some may complain of the ending, but it works within the story well and leaves the audience with a large amount of space to think. All in all, an enjoyable ride that will leave you contemplating what you saw and satisfied with its workmanlike nature.

Great acting
23 January 2018
This is a movie that checks all the boxes for a based on a true underdog story, but it does it with superb acting, good cinematography and pacing, and powerful scenes. From what I've heard, it takes many liberties with the actual story, but the final product is still gratifying. My only gripe is the cliche story moments (especially in the beginning), but after a few scenes, the story picks up, and leads to a surprisingly emotional climax. I definitely recommend, especially for the acting.

Way too much fun
23 January 2018
When I decided to watch this, I thought it would just be a fun diversion for a little over 2 hours. Turns out, it was a highly entertaining 2 hours that I do not regret. The movie may seem a little silly for non-superhero fans, but I think any veteran superhero fan will find it enjoyable; it is one of the best superhero films (maybe top 3 when it came out, now it's probably somewhere between 5-10). The film is more enjoyable if you've seen the first, but if you have to watch it without seeing the first, it probably would just seem mediocre. This is because it focuses on developing new characters more, while the story relies on characters developed more in the last film. In addition, the humor does not seem misplaced or overused (one of my problems with current superhero movies). People may not also like how there is not a clear cut protagonist, but I think that's kind of the point (hence the title). All in all, a really enjoyable movie that I definitely recommend.
