The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
More dwarves, less Elves!
Firstly, the visuals are absolutely stunning, middle earth looks amazing, but for the price tag, we knew it would, so let's skip that. The show starts off with Galadriel &, of course, she's being bullied &, of course, she's better at everything than anyone else, but the whole snow troll fight is absolutely ridiculous! Morfydd Clarke is so wooden & expressionless in her scenes, she barely opens her mouth to speak & the only change to her face is her crazy eyes!
I was pleasantly surprised by the parts with the half foots & Lenny Henry especially, those scenes were quite entertaining! But then we had more boring elves! The only redeeming one being young Elrond & his scenes with the dwarves! I thoroughly enjoyed those scenes! Then we have even more boring scenes with the elves! There's too many characters & a main protagonist, who is really dislikable, that doesn't care if the soldiers she commands dies, with an actress who is wooden & expressionless! Get rid of the elves & get more dwarves!
Interceptor (2022)
Haven't laughed so much in years!
Originally turned it off after the first fight & was gonna give it 1*, but, I thought I'd give it a fair chance &, honestly, by the end, it was hilarious!! From the 1 handed monkey bars, the sub captain saluting JJ, the stupidly long time the seals were taking to get there, Chris Hemsworth's cameo! All brilliant! Not forgetting all the huge plot holes, bad dialogue & terrible acting, I can only assume it was deliberate bad, as to be funny!
Choose or Die (2022)
Mediocre film, confused about where it wants to be set
I really don't understand why the production wanted it to be set in the US! Everything about this film screams British horror! The cast, the locations, the story, everything! As to the film itself, some good scenes, but nothing new, good acting all round, but a disappointing ending for me (no spoilers!). All in all, an OK watch.
Cold Moon (2016)
Don't waste your time
Terrible writing, terrible acting & terrible special effects! Storyline was muddled & was confusing, the acting was over the top (why was Tommy Wiseau in it?) and the makeup & special effects were very amateurish, To quote my wife, "just downright awful!"
No Return (2022)
Don't waste your time
Sheridan Smith's 'Kathy' is a boorish, loud mouthed, drunken little englander, her husband isa hen pecked, door mat. Her sister leaves her husband & autistic son for a holiday fling, but when she is dumped, she wants to try again, oh and her husband is a drug addict. These are all very dislikable characters, that you'll have no sympathy for. Then, on the Turkish side, you have the corrupt cops, the cartoon character of a lawyer, the anti-gay rhetoric & the corrupt prison warden, who will only transfer the son, if he does a propaganda piece for them! This was islamophobic, xenophobic, full of white privilege and these are the people we are supposed to be rooting for! Very poorly written, terrible acting and an insult to the country of Turkey!
War of the Worlds (2019)
War of the worlds in name alone
Poor acting, poor storyline, poor script & really slow. This is not a reimagining, it has absolutely nothing in common with the HG Wells classic. The robodogs are straight out of black mirror, the aliens being humans is a total cop out.
21 Bridges (2019)
Good, but predictable
Even though there is decent acting from the majority of the cast, the entire plot was easily predicted from the very start, there is a complete lack of originality. . . Oh, and the cops are worse shots than stormtroopers!
Viewpoint (2021)
It's all been done before
Damaged protagonist, not playing by the rules; nosy neighbour, playing detective; victim with a secret life, it's all been done before & a hell of a lot better than this! Also, they seem to be watching everyone, but the suspect! If you haven't started watching, yet, I'd give it a miss!
The One (2021)
Neither One thing or another!
Not a bad watch, but you will have to ignore the nonsensical science & just view it as a standard crime drama. Decent acting from the majority of the cast, except for the main character actress, who is very wooden & expressionless.
I Care a Lot (2020)
Such an awful film!
I have no words for how bad this film is! It has absolutely no redeeming qualities, whatsoever!
Greenland (2020)
Mediocre at best.
While this film doesn't do anything bad, as such, it doesn't do anything good either. Acting was ok, plot was unoriginal, action scenes that have been done to death. It all just culminates in characters you really don't care about in a tired genre movie.
The Expanse (2015)
What happened to Avasarala?
*Minor spoilers*
I love this show & I'm well into series 4, but, what's happened to Avasarala he writing for Avasarala? In the earlier series, she was eloquent, charming & very charismatic, but, by series 4, she's arrogant, big headed & swears like a sailor! I mean, it's F this & F that & "F everyone, because I'm in charge!" She has become more like a dictator & I really hate the way the character has gone!
Songbird (2020)
"Meh"
Not good, but not too bad, either. About the same as an afternoon, TV movie or a straight to dvd. Nothing new or original & there are much better films out there to watch.
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Simply Awful!
Bad acting, bad accents, bad writing, awful, awful, awful!! You can tell this was written for an American audience. The main actress has as much nuance as a house brick, going from wooden & stiff to manic at the drop of a hat! The children are straight out of chitty chitty bang bang don't own any modern appliances, yet it's set in modern times! Completely ridiculous!!
In the Tall Grass (2019)
Very boring
People go into the grass, get lost in the grass & spends the next hour playing marco polo, everything was predictable & obvious, there was no mystery, no suspense & I only gave it 2 stars because the young lad, who played 'Tobin' was pretty good. Other than that, it would of been a zero!
Charmed (2018)
OMG! Worse show EVER!
What an absolute pile of rubbish! I cannot believe I sat through two episodes of this twaddle! YES, I SAID TWADDLE!!!
Wounds (2019)
Slow burner that just fizzles out
Wounds starts well enough, bartender in a dive bar, who's smarter than you think, wasting his life. Things start getting weird when he finds a phone, after a nasty fight & there's cockroaches...& That's it! I'd put the events in the film down to the protagonist's heavy drinking, rather than anything supernatural! There's a bit of tension between the characters, but the film never really escalate beyond that initial tension. I only gave it three stars because I hate cockroaches! (Though, even they don't really amount to anything!)
Criminal: UK (2019)
Starts well, but goes down hill quickly
No depth to the stories, some good acting at times, but, overall, disappointing.
