Crossroads (I) (2002)
1/10
Unlike most reviewers, I can't rest my case on this.
11 December 2005
This is the worst film I have ever seen in my entire, beautiful life. Not only does it show that its bad, but the performances are so drivel and atrocious that I just sat there in disbelief. For those who saw this film back in '02, I ask them a very simple question: Why? I think Britney Spears should just stick to music videos. That's where her "real" talent comes alive.

This film will only appeal to hard-core horny males of brainless female pop stars trying to expand their popularity. Well Ms. Spears certainly excels in that department but if she ever appears in movies like this or any film, then Ms. Spears may run the risk of overstaying her welcome.

Surface (2005–2006)
Great Sci-Fi
5 December 2005
Surface has the making of a potential classic on TV. It's not totally sci-fi. It's a family drama, mystery, fantasy, and horror. There are moments of humor, especially with the two teenage boys and the girl whose related to them and character development with great special effects and suspense. Lake Bell is good as the main protagonist trying to discover the mysterious creature's origins, but I think the producers should give the audience more of her. The supporting cast is good as well. The chemistry between the characters is engaging and sometimes heartfelt.

Surface is the best show that I have seen and I'm confident that it has the potential to be another sci-fi TV classic.

With a movie title like this, its no wonder that movies are going downhill.
5 December 2005
I think this film should have gone straight to video and I think I speak for everyone who saw this. It clearly demonstrates the lack of creativity and ingenuity in today's films. Never has a film title sounded so absurd and stupid; I mean You Got Served? With what? a foot in the A**? With a side of french fries with a burger? I can go on and on about cracking jokes on certain films, but that will have to do. I really do miss the golden age of movies since they didn't rely so heavily on sex, adult language, etc. They relied more on story and character development rather than overdose on special effects and corny dialog. Don't take this the wrong way; I love today's films such as The Matrix, Training Day, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, and Batman Begins, as well as others, but I feel many of them are rushed and not developed enough. Today's audiences want more than special effects and action, they want a more coherent plot and character development. Unfortunately, in the case of You Got Served and other films like it, it falls into the trap of half-baked film making.

The sad truth is that movies like this aren't going away anytime soon.

Fear Factor (I) (2001–2012)
Fear inducing stunts, scantly-clad babes, in Los Angeles? SIGN ME UP!!!!
25 November 2005
American pop culture, whether you love it or hate it, is here to stay and "Fear Factor" is no exception. As host Joe Rogan puts it "The stunts are extremely dangerous and should not be attempted by anyone, anywhere, anytime", that's a statement that has true meaning to what this show is all about. I must say that although most of the episodes are not all that, there are some that are truly gross and will make you or your hot date freak out almost immediately. The cast consists of 3 males and 3 females, but I prefer to see the female side of things on this show. Likewise, seeing beautiful, scantly-clad babes competing for $50,000 is enough to draw a male audience. All in all, this show is living proof that pop culture is once again here to stay in the good 'ol U.S of A!!!

In the Mix (2005)

A kindler, gentler Bodyguard.
23 November 2005
Have you ever saw "The Bodyguard", where Kevin Costner protects Whitney Houston from a psychotic stalker and romances her? Then the similarities are there. Take out the dark atmosphere, suspense, thriller, and brutal violence, and you have a lighter side of that film which is not an actual sequel to the 1990 classic, but more of a side story with a dance/romance theme. Though the film does has romance and some violent scenes and some of the dialog may make you snicker, but it doesn't ruin the entire film. There are some references to past films; a dash of Driving Ms Daisy, Guess Who's Coming To Dinner, and Othello. But in the end, the film is mostly about interracial dating and culture clashes with some good humorous and touching moments, although I wish that the film could've explored those themes a little more coherently. But in the end,it's just a nice little movie that isn't excessively violent or vulgar, just something to have a decent time at the theaters.

One word and one word only: CHEESY!!!
23 November 2005
This movie is so cheesy I couldn't stop laughing at it. I mean what kind of an idiot would create such a piece of cinematic drivel? It goes so far as to say that he/she has no directing talent or skills for that matter. Buckaroo Banzai was unknown to me until that chilly Saturday afternoon; never seen it in theaters or on video so I decided to watch it on regular TV. It started off with a funny Star Wars-like prologue and then goes on with the main character Buckaroo Banzai (Peter Weller) riding in some weird vehicle that somehow traveled between space and time. I suspected that this was not going to be a serious sci-fi film but boy was I wrong. I just spent two hours of my life on one of the worst films ever in the history of cinema. It was and is just plain freaking boring; no sense of charm or wit. The plot was ridiculous and so were the aliens (This film was made back in the 80's I suppose) and the performances. If this film is a comedy, then it seriously needs some work in the charisma department.

Serenity (2005)
8/10
A great Sci-Fi film that anyone can enjoy.
14 November 2005
Serenity is a great film that should be seen in the same league as the Star Wars films. Heavy on dialog with some great action and set pieces, the film is an enjoyable romp nonetheless.

I also liked that it is not too serious and dark. The film does have a dark atmosphere but it is lighthearted and fun with fast action and genuine character development. And did I forget to mention the hot girls in this film?

Some nitpicks: A little more action and info on some of the characters, namely the savage beings that attack our heroes and how the earth became desolated and uninhabitable. But I still liked it and will likely see it again.

Serenity is great and charismatic at the same time; never too dark and never too funny. A nice balance of story, action, and humor. All in all, makes a nice complete package.

Batman Begins (2005)
9/10
The greatest superhero movie of the year!!!
22 October 2005
Batman Begins is simply marvelous in many ways; even surpassing the Tim Burton masterpiece released in the late eighties. Starring Christian Bale, Katie Holmes, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman, the film is a roller-coaster ride of a movie with realistic production values, a deep and engrossing storyline with twists and turns, thrills and chills, and much more!! This story, unlike the previous Batman films, is more of an origin tale rather then a straight-up superhero/action movie. It tells the story of how Bruce Wayne became destined to become his alter ego, the Dark Knight. A vigilante bent on ridding Gotham City of crime and corruption. But underneath the mask is a man tortured by a tragic loss in his childhood and filled with anguish, and revenge.

I m not one to spoil anymore plot points like most reviewers, so I going to leave it at that and end that I have described.

When watching a film or reading about a character like Batman, you sympathize with him and his feelings towards those who are evil and also in his daily life dealing with business, justice, and love. No film like this is without romance. Batman Begins is also a mentor/father figure, detective and self-discovery tale as well. Michael Cain as Alfred, Bruce s most trustworthy butler is simply impressive in this role. No actor in the business can portray the charm, wisdom, and cleverness as well as Cain. Michael Gough was great in Tim Burton s two installments and also in the third (with the exception of the downright god awful Batman and Robin ) but Cain pulls it off with such spectacular flair that you can t help but be intrigued by his character. And it really shows due to the top-notch performances of the supporting roles by Morgan Freeman, Katie Holmes, and Gary Oldman (a surprisingly different role for an actor known for playing bad guys).

Nolan s casting makes this film shine even brighter and generally makes it more fun and exciting. I honestly didn't think he or any other director aside from Burton could pull it off. I admit that after the fourth Batman film, I had very low expectations regarding news on this new installment. I saw the dreadful fourth film in the late 90s with the notion that I was going to be on the edge of my seat. After the film ended and having just seen it on TV. a few years ago, I personally state that this is the worst film in the franchise. Joel Schumacher has ruined the franchise as whole and not only infuriated fans of the comic book series and film buffs alike, but he also destroyed my interest in Batman . This film, or should I say travesty, is the kind where you instruct your DVD or videocassette player to eject the drivel from the unit and either trade it in or in a more suitable and grand course of action, throw it into the garbage, landfill, or many other favorable sites where a film like Batman and Robin deserves to be.

However, after seeing the film, I have to say that in a streak of hope, Nolan has masterfully resurrected the franchise into a new, pleasant light! How wrong I was about this film; it is simply the best ever!! Nolan has truly outdone himself and this is a film that I can proudly call my favorite alongside Revenge of the Sith , which George Lucas has so wonderfully redeemed.

Batman fans can finally rejoice and hail this box-office gem as the definitive film of the year!! I urge all of you to come out and see Nolan s grand vision of the Dark Knight and be immersed in all of its splendid, spectacular glory!! Finally, the specter of Batman and Robin can be lifted from our minds and our hearts as well as our souls!!! Batman s triumphant return to the silver screen was well worth the time, money, and effort on the part of not just Christopher Nolan, but also on the actors themselves!! Great job and congratulations!! Overall, Batman Begins is the greatest and the best revision of the Caped Crusader!!! Let us welcome a sequel with open arms.
