The Ring Two (2005)
2/10
Waste of a sequel.
26 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
While the 2002 american remake of the 1998 film Ringu known as the Ring is a mostly good direction faithful western adaptation with good direction and use of its premise, Ring two wastes most of its potential for cheap scares, bad CG and about 15 plot holes. Basically the plot of the film is Samara is still going after Rachel and Aiden despite ending the curse in the first film and that's it. They try to expand on Smara's backstory but make it more confusing in the process, has random scenes like CGI deer attacking their car out of nowhere for no reason, dumb side characters, and whatever the hell that ending was. This film could have been a great sequel to one of the few good horror remakes out there, but instead, this film became a giant mess. Not worth watching I'm afraid.

Soul Eater (2008–2009)
8/10
A charming dark fantasy anime.
2 January 2024
I've seen a lot of anime over the years and this one is defnietly one of the more unique and interesting ones of our time. The premise are a group of kids in a dark fantasy world learning to become Weapon Meisters in an effort to save the world against ancient evil that is consuming their world. It has a fun cast of characters with their own unique personalities and style that you can't help but root for them and want to see more of their adventures.

The animation and art style is very creative, with a lot of the visuals feeling like they were heavily inspired by Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas. The comedy is hit or miss but is pleasantly made up for by the strong character interactions and animation. One are I felt it somewhat lacked in was that the finale I felt was a little abrupt and underwhelming but I believe part of that may have been because of some of the alterations to the story that differed from the OG Manga. All in all, Soul Eater is a wholesome experience that any fan of dark fantasy and anime should watch.

A fantastic adaptation of a children's show!
2 January 2024
The Spongebob movie in my opinion is one of nickelodeon's best films based on one of their most prominent cartoons and is a true animated classic. The plot of the film is after Mr Krabs is framed by Plankton for stealing King Neptune's crown, Spongebob and his best friend Patrick go on a journey to recover the crown, prove his boss's innocence and prove to all who ridiculed him that he's not a kid but a man. The film is more darker than the show its based on but still has plenty of child like charm to its characters and visuals as well as a decent balance between the dark and the light. The film's message is handled well and feels pretty organic and natural throughout the story. The humor is also done pretty well with some pretty witty dialogue and timing despite one adult joke near the beginning. It defienetly showed a lot of thought, heart and effort went into this film and it shows in its story quality. 2 other spongebob films have been released since but neither could capture the charm, comedy, drama or heart of the classic original and is why this film is a true animated classic to this day.

RoboCop (1987)
9/10
Fantastic Action film.
19 April 2023
This film is a true gem of the action and sci fi franchise. In the film, after a police officer is injured in the line of action, he is rebuilt into a robotic cop and seeks revenge on the ones who harmed him. The film has a lot of amazing set pieces, action scenes, and performances by Peter Weller and Kurtwood Smith. The effects are a little dated but still work for its time. It also includes a healthy use of satire about consumerism and the human condition that feels both fresh and interesting, with slick writing and heart. The music is also spectacular with the main theme bound to be stuck in you head for weeks. A must see film!

Aladdin (2019)
4/10
A big old meh.
7 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This film is basically no different from every other Disney live action remake. It's shallow, soulless and bland with nothing much to offer except maybe will smith as the genie. Despite that, he is no Robin Williams. The cast is ok but whoever played jafar could not act whatsoever and was so dull it nearly put me to sleep. There is also a weird subplot involving the genie having the hots for a handmaiden that's unesscary and if cut out, wouldn't change anything. If you guys wanna watch Aladdin, just watch the original since it's more fun, entertaining and enjoyable and isn't a big cash grab like this.

Chucky: Death on Denial (2022)
Season 2, Episode 4
1/10
The worst episode of the show
27 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
While I do enjoy the show, this episode left a lot to be desired and was just a confusing mess. I don't know why chucky's kids have to be a pair of transvestites. It wasn't necessary. Also there is a stupid scene where glen and Glenda lecture these party guests on their pronouns like anyone cares. Chucky isn't even in this episode save for a meta joke where he narrates the episode masterpiece theater style. It also has a ton of plot holes like why are the twins helping nica, why and how did the become acquainted with kyle, why don't they remember seed of chucky and so on. It's a mess of an episode.

One of the greatest cartoon's ever made.
28 November 2022
1992 is what I would consider the superhero renaissance era and this and the X-men cartoon are the reason why. Batman the animated series is the definitive Batman show for those who are fans of the comics. It is the perfect balance between dark and serious and silly and goofy, has good stories, and stellar animation. But that doesn't bar the most important aspects of the show which is the voice acting. Kevin Conroy, may he rest in peace, was the perfect voice for Batman, making his performance unique and intriguing as well as introducing us to a fresh look at the caped crusader. Next to Conroy's Batman is the legendary Mark Hami's Joker who, like Conroy, plays the supervillain with menace and goofiness thus appealing to both ages. The show makes a good use of hiring live celebrities to voice the characters over established voice acting giving each character their own unique style. The animation is a perfect mix of 20s noir and 90s deco. Even on blu ray this looks spectacular. The storylines are very engaging and interesting with a nuanced blend of matierial from the source comics as well as a few new additions here and there such as new characters and new backstories. This show is a love letter to any DC fan and deserves all the praise it gets.

Does not live up to the hype.
15 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
First off, I think everyone and they're grandma knew this film was gong to try to pay tribute to Harold Ramis who recently passed away in 2014 ahead of time, but the attempts a paying tribute doesn't mean this film was that good. Ok, here's the plot and review. 30 years after the first 2 Ghostbusters film. Egon Spengler has passed away and his daughter, grandson and granddaughter inherit his farm where the granddaughter finds her grandfather's old Ghostbusters gear and (thanks to one of the dumbest teachers in the world), accidentally releases the demon dogs from the Og film and she starts a new ghostbusters group made up of her, her friend from school, her brother, and her brother's love interest. Despite this being set in the same continuity as Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2 while ignoring She busters 2016, this film makes the former better by comparison. The granddaughter character is not characterized well, coming more like a female version of Young Sheldon Cooper than a well thought out character. Her school friend "Podcast" is kinda irritating and will likely get on most of the audiences nerves as the only joke they do with him is his clumsy attempts at recording material for his podcast. The bother is a stereotypical careless, socially awkward teen who just wants to be cool and get the girl, so there is not much there. One of the more agitating aspects in the movie is the fact that the granddaughter's teacher, not only believes in the ghost trap having a ghost in it, but also helps open the damn thing thus making everything in this film his fault for being stupid. Aside from the underdeveloped characters, the film has a lot of discount versions of the various ghosts from the previous 2 films and has a very predictable plot involving them bringing back Gozer because apparantly, creating an original villain is too hard. The humor doesn't work and it is handled very poorly. The actual Ghostbusters that we know and love only appear at the end for some sort of hail Mary and has a cheap tribute to the late Ramis at the end. There were only 2 times I laughed but they were at the end and they were just callbacks. This film is not worth a watch and you can spend you're time doing better things and I highly recommend you do.

Ringu (1998)
8/10
One of the scariest films ever made!
15 November 2022
Ringu was the start of a trend of horror ghost films due to the film's masterful direction and writing. The plot is after her niece dies mysteriously, a reporter starts to investigate the death and ends up being lead towards a mysterious VHS tape that contains an eerie video. The reporter soon becomes cursed to die in 7 days and, along with her ex husband, must find out the mystery behind the tape's creation and try to break the curse. It has an intense atmosphere with an intriguing mystery aspect. The actors do an excellent job with their parts and succeed at making the audience fear and dread the worse. The horror elements are handled very well. It keeps the right things mysterious and exposes only what is necessary. I won't spoil the ending, but it is the best and scariest part of the film and will leave you scared senseless. This is a true masterpiece in horror cinema and deserves at least one watch.

Disappointing at best.
18 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
As a Deathstroke fan, I had high hopes for this film. Unfortunately, it fails immensely. 90 percent of the film is Deathstroke and his ex wife constantly bickering and Deathstroke getting shamed for his past to an annoyingly high degree. The storyline with his kids had potential but it of course, disappoints as well. The villain is hugely bland and underdeveloped and is just a throw away 1 dimensional character that's just there to be a villain. Aside from these many cons, there are a few pros. The animation is extremely well done, and the violence is hardcore and gory, thus earning it's R rating perfectly. Aside from that, this film is a huge misfire on DC animation's part and is best to be avoided.

The best of the TNG films
18 October 2022
This film honestly was the best of the four TNG films. It had an excellent story with beautiful performances by Patrick Stewart, Brent Spiner, Alfre Woodard and Alice Krige. Th borg plot was handled well and action sequences were defiantly handled with gusto. The effects are also good, especially the upside down space fight between Picard, Worf and the borg. Alice Krige is great as the borg queen, enlisting both menace and mystery into her performance. Her scenes with Data really get your blood pumping with suspense and testosterone. If you ever wanna watch a TNG film, this is the one for you.

The Visit (I) (2015)
4/10
A mediocre addition to the horror genre.
8 August 2022
Synopsis: 2 kids who are filming a documentary are going to see their grandparents who they never met before because of an alteration between them and their mom, while their mom is on a cruise line, and the grandparents start acting weird and it freaks the kids out.

My thoughts: Even for a guy who doesn't watch much found footage films, I even found this less than impressive. It sets up a lot of stuff that could be payed off on later, but only 70 percent actually pay off, the found footage part felt unneeded in certain scenes and the plot felt somewhat contrived. The two kids were meh to me, but the "grandparents" were pretty decent. There were a lot of trying to hard stuff in this film like a scene of the grandma scratching at a wall, naked one night and another scene involving one of the kids finding a pit of dirty diapers in a barn and later has one shoved in his face. The twist at the end is somewhat confusing, but that's just me. All in all, Not the best film I've scene nor is it the worse. Would I recommend it? Nah.

Leaves a lot to be desired.
26 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This film is not as good as I thought it was. Despite the title, this film wastes its promise of multiverse goodies and instead makes audiences bored and depressed for the most part. Cumberbatch as Strange wasn't the problem, he was trying his best with the material he was given. The plot was kind of the issue. The plot is in the synopsis on Imdb. The part that angered me the most was they had a scene where they had alternate version/ returning actor characters from previous and upcoming marvel properties appear, just to waste them in a matter of 5 minutes. The one major surprise I got out of this was Scarlet Witch as the villain which was ok, but still could have been fleshed out better. This new America Chavez character was ok, I guess, Wong was still entertaining and the effects were decent, but I kind of expected more out of this film. I hope Marvel learns from this with their next multiverse project and does better.

An excellent commentary on comics.
30 April 2022
Unlike most comic book films, this one actually is aware of what kind of movie it is and twists the cliches perfectly. Bruce Willis and Samuel l Jackson both do their parts well and the script is brilliantly written with stellar dialogue and and an engaging plot. It's a shame m night can't make good movies like this anymore. This is definitely worth a watch if movie goers want something less like a generic MCU film and desire something more sophisticated.

Light but fun.
4 April 2021
Most anime dubbed movies are good but this is kind of an exception. In the movie, the Pokemon trio are summoned by a legendary Pokemon called Mewtwo who challenges the heroes to battle pokemon clones. The story is kind of light on substance and the moral is cliched but is has good animation and fun fight scenes. Might irk older audiences but the kids will love it. I'd give it a try.

Interesting but flawed.
12 January 2021
This is an odd movie. The plot is that after the first film, Walker is now doing and undercover case with a friend of his and eve Mendes. Sounds kind of generic to me, but that's just the story. The film uses a lot of close up angles on the cars heck, there is even a scene where the guys exit the cars and the camera focuses more on the cars than the actor's faces. It is almost like watching a glorified car show. That and it has a lot of scenes with scantily clad women. This film in my opinion is nothing more than mindless action. Still fun, but stupid.

Power Rangers (2017)
4/10
Not the film I was hoping for
23 November 2020
The film seems promising, with the power rangers being on the big screen again, but when you watch it, you'll feel robbed. The film lacks the fun campy tone of its source material and Feels dull and weak on its overall presentation. The performances are alright, but the character's personality's feel mixed up and not interesting to watch. The character, zord, and monster designs look almost nothing like they do in the show and it makes me wonder if these guys ever watched it. All in all, just watch the original show if you want satisfaction.

Kind of underated
2 October 2020
When I watched this movie, it was surprisingly better than what everyone said about it. It was a bad-ass dark, brutal action film and Ray Stevenson was well cast as Frank Castle and the story is good. It's not perfect though. The dialogue is kind of awkward for one thing and the acting from the villains is really hammy. The biggest ham here is Dominic West as Jigsaw. He does and says everything in a strange over the top manner and talks with a stereotypical Italian accent and looks like Red Skull from the 1990 Captain America. The editing is kind of strange too, using a lot of fast cuts and such. Still, it is still an enjoyable popcorn flick and I liked it!

Really fun. A must see!
9 September 2020
When I went to the movies to see this, I was crossing my fingers and prayed it wouldn't suck and it didn't. The movie is about Aquaman having to overthrow his half-brother, the Ocean Master, and become king of Atlantis. The performances all work well. Jason Momoa is a good Aquaman, Amber Heard is cool, and the villians rock. The CGI was crappy in a few places, but the film still was watchable.

Great in every sense of the word!
24 May 2020
This is a perfect superhero movie and a definitive Spider man film along with the mcu films. Toby Maguire excels at playing the wall crawler capturing the neediness of peter Parker and the wit of Spider man. The director is fantastic at keeping the film true to the comics and working with the actors. The fx is dated but cool. Willem Dafoe is epic as green goblin and sells his roll! A must see action flick.

Really hits the mark.
28 March 2020
Dr Strange is truly a cinematic treat. Benedict Cumberbatch plays a cool an fun Dr Strange and does not disappoint. The CGI is used very well in this film with its visuals and sets up a fun flick. The villain is kind of stock though and not much development goes into him sadly. The secondary characters are solid too like Mordo and the Ancient one. The story has problems but few and far between. A really great superhero film.
