The Witches (2020)

Great take on the original film.
10 March 2021
I actually liked this film. I loved that it was set in the 60s. Why remake a film if it doesn't address our changing priorities in society? This does that very well. I thought Octavia Spencer was excellent and Stanley Tucci (I didn't recognise him at first) was funny as Mr Stringer. I don't get all the negativity about this film (could it be that the main characters are black??) and yes, I have seen the original. This is a children's film and I'm sure it scared and delighted the kids as much as the book. However, I do agree that Anne Hathaway's accent leaves a lot to be desired. But all in all, it's a fun and entertaining film.

Robin Hood (2018)

What a load of old pony.
29 September 2019
Being from the UK, I love the Robin Hood folklore, and was really looking forward to this film. What a disappointment! It was absolute rubbish. I'm not criticising the acting, the actors did their best with a lazy production and ridiculous script. But there is so much wrong with it and to rant about....

The costumes...did anybody try to research 12th &13th century clothing? No, they just went out and bought the outfits on eBay.

Nottingham...I don't think there was a big Irish contingent here in the Middle Ages, let alone many Aussies.

The mines...any clue as what were they mining? And explosives??? No. Nottingham, like the most of Europe at the time was rural and agrarian. At least make an effort!

There is too much wrong with this production to go into here and, to be honest, I'm so disappointed with it that I can't actually be bothered.Who gave this film the go ahead? Surely, at some point, someone realised that this was an absolute stinker? This film is an embarrassment to Hollywood and I hope it doesn't discourage others from making Robin Hood films.

Much better than the original
27 July 2018
I watched this not expecting much, I found the original too much of a boy's wet dream. I love this new Lara Croft, more of a feminist action hero than a male fantasy. Yes, it was predictable and copied elements of the Lost Ark, but it's great to see arse kicking female lead and I really enjoyed this film. Also, Wayne Goggins makes a superb villain! I'm looking forward to the next one...

Jackie Chan in the UK!
30 May 2018
Love Jackie Chan and he's in a British/Irish film! What's there not to love?! A sixty something Asian guy beating the crap out of thirty something terrorists - fantastic. Plus the wonderful Pierce Brosnan! More please.

The llamas got attitude!
7 May 2018
Not sure why so many have slated this film, I enjoyed it. It's not the funniest or cleverest film ever, but it did make me laugh. I loved that the film and Antonio Banderas didn't take themselves seriously and seemed to have had a great time making it. No llamas or dolphins were hurt in the film and the hunters got theirs! A fun light hearted movie that will entertain.

Action filled four-wheel drive fun!

Warning: Spoilers
Loved this film! It was wonderfully different to the usual movie fare. The cinematography was beautiful, I actually felt as if I was in the forest with the rovers too!; lots of action, not in the Hollywood way, but fast paced and exciting. Betrayals and fab car chases peppered with humour and Aussie spirit. What's not to like? Really enjoyable.

Atrocious acting
31 March 2018
As others have said this could have been a great film if decent actors had been the leads. They looked far too young and could not act for toffee. I love Luc Besson films....wtf was he thinking in casting these two leads? It's such a shame. Nul points.

Santa Clarita Diet (2017–2019)
Absolutely brilliant!

Don't be put off by this being yet another zombie show, it's not the usual zombie fare. It's a zombie realtor in suburbia trying and failing to live a normal life with her family. It's fresh, funny and wonderfully tongue in cheek. There's mystery too, how did she become zombie and what is that red ball she threw up? Be warned, it's horribly addictive!

Wonderfully nostalgic

Loving this sitcom. I remember the 80s well and it's brilliant soundtrack takes me right back there. It's set in London in the early 80s with the riots, racism and difficult economic times as the backdrop. It's a funny, charming sitcom where you're rooting for the loveable characters. Idris Elba shows that he is a talented script writer as well as a good actor.

Fun take on a rom com
29 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this on rainy afternoon expecting a boring cheesy rom com, but I really enjoyed it. Yes, it has a cheesy ending (thank goodness), but it wasn't boring at all. Michael Eklund is great as the new best buddy and the wrestling scenes stopped the film from being too sickly sweet. An enjoyable not too nauseating rom com.

Good fun!

I thoroughly enjoyed this film. There were no real surprises, but it was a good fun comedy horror. A great cast and a good script made sure this romp worked well.
