Watchable... but what a comedown
14 August 2023
No way this is a 7.9 show. Olyphant is the only decent actor in the show. Boyd Holbrook is average in this role after a standout performance in Narcos. He comes nowhere close to Boyd Crowder, Wynn Duffy, Mags Bennett, or Robert Quarles as a villain. Missing is the snappy repartee, crisp storylines, and hot hillbilly women. Country girls are so much more fun and interesting compared to sophisticated city women.

After bedding down Eva, Winona, Lyndsey the bartender, and Amy Smart's Alyson Brander, the Detroit Raylan settles for a rumble in the hay with an overweight and unattractive defense attorney. Why not cast Zoe Saldana or Halle Barry in that role? Oh yeah... budget. All in all, this show is just okay. They should've given us all the shows at once so we could binge and purge. As it is, a weekly release just makes the show unforgettable.

And Raylan... keep the hat on. Without it you look like just another wussy Hollywood actor.

Two stars because I feel sorry for Patricia Heaton

Otherwise I'd have given it one. Denim must've longed for Taylor Sheridan to rewrite this atrocious script. Acting, editing, and writing are all CW network quality. Even then, it would be the CW's lowest-rated show. My primary concern is for Tom Wopat's hairless, aging chest. We are subjected to it throughout the movie for reasons that are unknown. On the plus side, there is no sex, no smoking, no cussin', and no nudity. A little gambling and some alcohol. Scenery is decent with a good number of overhead shots of colorful trees. Watch the FreeVee from Amazon Prime Video and forget about renting the second and third installment of this trilogy.

I'M IN LOVE WITH ELVIS' GRANDDAUGHTER!
6 March 2023
Riley Keough is incredibly captivating in her "I don't give a crap" role. Yes, the story is common. Having just watched "George and Tammy" on Showtime, the similarities are undeniable. The average person who would kill to be a rock/country star doesn't understand how those who've made it big can let it all slip through their fingers... and yet it does. I didn't grow up in SoCal in the 70's, so I can't speak to the depiction of that vibe. But having grown up in the 70's, it feels genuine enough to me. The stories of The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac (the two supergroups of the era) come to mind. The acting is wonderful. Costumes are great. The songs are good enough. And Raylon Givens is the road manager! What more could you ask for? Three episodes in and I'm thoroughly into it! Friday can't get here fast enough.

ANY MINUTE NOW... AADESH WILL BREAK INTO A BEATLES SONG

Decent acting. So-so writing. I wish I could hear what some of the low-talkers are saying. Audio is sometimes hit and miss. Uma Thurman is so far a non-entity in this show. They're basically paying to use her likeness in the marketing. Good to see Noah Emmerich in this. He was great in The Amerikans and is, so far, quite good in this show. I'll keep watching for the time being. It's not bad.

Disregard the Metascore

This movie is pure fun and worth watching for Gal Gadot alone. The banter between the Rock and Ryan Reynolds is a joy able and the action scenes are pretty decent. It's not a movie that will get Oscar noms, but it's highly entertaining. Joe Bob sez, "Check it out!"

Entertaining and compelling

Do you believe in fate? That somehow every event is pre-planned and the ultimate outcome is already determined... no matter what? Our culture is fond of saying that "everything happens for a reason." Is that true? Huisman's character "sees" patterns in everyday life. His new girlfriend, who happens to share his birthday, thinks he's gone off the deep end. She's hot, by the way. I suppose he is, too, making their relationship all the more interesting. This is a good way to kill an hour and a half. And right now, it's free on Amazon. So....

THIS AMERICAN ENJOYED IT
15 April 2021
Yes, I had to turn on CC to understand much of the British dialogue. Yes, the music can be overbearing and seemingly a waste of time for guys like me. But I understand chicks dig it. Writing was crisp and acting sufficient. I find myself mesmerized by Eve. She is a sexy older woman and I couldn't take my eyes off her. Those accusing her of "overacting" have never been around a grief-stricken person whose world is rapidly unraveling. She is very believable in this role. Baby Rhodri is adorable. I do wish Eve would use some of her riches to fix her teeth. Her gap is Letterman-esque. Otherwise, she is definitely someone with whom I could cozy up in front of a fireplace on a frigid Welch evening. She seems quite "comfortable."

Glad I Didn't Subscribe....

Warning: Spoilers
After the first two seasons, I was hooked. Great writing. Great acting. Great direction. It was another Breaking Bad. Then wokism with Taylor the non-binary "them" took over in Season 3. "They" became the Axe nemesis and Chuckie-boy became Jock's biatch. In the middle of it all is Wendy who has become such a non-player in the plot they might as well kill her off. Watched it all free with my Amazon subscription and, after reading the reviews here, I have zero desire to see the rest.

REMEMBER YOUR FIRST LOVE? EXPERIENCE THAT FEELING AGAIN
15 February 2021
What a great story! Not teen adolescent silly, but warm and wonderful. Casting perfect. Screenplay clever. Story captivating. I'm 62 years old. It's been a long time since my first kiss. But I relived that feeling tonight.

Lots of Amazing Talent!

But 40 minutes too long. After an hour and a half, I was ready to move on. Keith Urban is one lucky guy. Nicole Kidman is amazing.

Definitely worth my $5.99... now I own it!

Great cast with two of my favorite actresses-Rosamund Pike and Ana de Armas. Clive Owen is a bit part but enough that you dislike him. Common is terrific. And Joel Kinnamon... really good, especially in the tense scenes. Very entertaining.

Not what I'd hoped... but not bad
11 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
After 13 Hours and A Quiet Place, I knew John Krazinski had the chops to pull this off with the intensity it deserves. I think it falls a little flat on the directorial end and maybe in casting. All the Arab actors are incredible and menacing. Krazinski is fine. Greer is sub-par and whoever the girlfriend is... not so great. Why not cast Emily Blunt (I know... she would've blown the budget)? The girlfriend needs to be hotter and a better actor.

The only other criticism I have is with the conscious-stricken drone pilots who, besides being poor actors, don't even seem to be cut out for the military. That whole sub-plot seemed to serve no purpose except perhaps to make us think twice about blowing people up long distance. Whatever. I've seen that on many other shows.

I binged this in one weekend and it was not a waste of time. I stayed engaged and enjoyed the action scenes between the good guys and the bad guys. We knew Ryan would get Suleman in the end. And when he does, it is gratifying.

Better Than Anything on the Big 3
19 May 2018
Binged all of season one in two days and fell in love with Inbar Lavi (as does everyone else in the show). She is the new fresh face of Hollywood and, after visiting Israel last year, I find this native Hebrew woman highly intriguing. Her initial sidekicks, Max and Sal, are also very good actors. The three new sidekicks, all ex-spouses of Inbar's character Maddie, are pretty average. Writing is better than the crap on network television. Despite moving slowly in spots, the plot remains engaging enough to hold your interest. Somewhat miffed by Uma Thurman's character. She is not so convincing in her role as a hard-nosed enforcer. Patrick, the FBI dude, is just okay. He's a poor man's Shamar Moore.

I like this show... a lot. But I am enthralled, mesmerized, and smitten with Inbar Lavi.
