Daddy's Little Girls (2007)
Yet Another Installment of "Tyler Perry Hates Black Women"
Sigh...while this movie did have a few redeeming qualities (the story, while contrived and formulaic, did at least attempt to be worthwhile and show a father who loved and fought for his children), Tyler Perry only knows how to paint black women in the broadest strokes imaginable.
They're either educated, brittle and bitter, looking down on everyone except men they deem worthy by their degrees and/or salary or they're loud, trashy gold diggers. At least the actresses seemed unable to say the dialogue like they really believed it...they looked like they were depositing the check as they read their lines.
Since it's been almost 15 years since this movie was made and TP shows no signs of trying to actually make a good movie, I'll just chalk this one up to more evidence that he really does hate black women.

A Wild, Crazy, Terrifying Ride
OMG, Janicza Bravo and Jeremy O. Harris need to create films together for the rest of time. This movie is brilliant. Perhaps it helps that I was familiar with the Twitter thread that inspired this movie. I was nonplussed when I first heard that this would be made into a movie, although I'm forever thankful that James Franco, who was originally attached, didn't direct this. In the wrong hands, it could have been an exploitative, pandering mess. But that's not the case here. Although I was a bit triggered by Riley Keough's blaccent, I enjoyed the performances. Colman Domingo is great in everything he does, Nicholas Braun Cousin Gregs all over this movie and I would watch hours of Taylour Paige's expressions and reactions. A wild, crazy, terrifying, fun ride.

Tyler Perry Hates Women, But I Think He Hates Black Men More
I would love to be able to support a Tyler Perry show, but I can't. This man who brags about writing all of the scripts for all of his shows, but doesn't understand that the statement is not a positive. This show is the most meandering, nonsensical drama (?) I've seen in a long time.
Tyler Perry has made these women painfully stupid. Andi, who is supposed to be a high-powered lawyer, is the dumbest person on the face of the earth. TP has reduced her to a simpering woman so desperate for a man that she ignores the most blatant evidence that her married boyfriend is no good. And those of us who have seen previous TP projects know that he is a bad man, because, true to form, any dark-skinned man in a TP production is a villain.
And I really have no words for the gay/homophobia storylines in this show. The Sabrina/Calvin relationship has me scratching my head. I'm not sure if TP is trying to point out that women's homophobia towards men that aren't cavemen is destructive, or if TP just wanted a black man to act out some "gay" stereotypes onscreen and have women make fun of him. None of it makes any sense.
I hoped that eventually, when TP had made enough money, he'd start producing quality entertainment. But I guess that's not in the cards. Try again, TP.
