À trois on y va (2015)
Wonderfully French, n'est ce pas?
I loved this film: funny, sexy, sad, frustrating, erotic, beautiful, touching, memorable, cool, but above all, so French. Having watched Love, and the American series You Me Her - which I got fed up with and never finished watching, I approached this with some trepidation and expected disappointment. The whole boy lives with girl who has a female lover who is also a friend to them both but then gets involved with the boy as well could've resulted in a complete mess but is handled so deftly by this young director. I will definitely look out his other films. The actors are great: good looking, sexy, and convincing. The young lawyer reminded me of Emannuelle Beart: she went from pretty and demure to sexy vixen to hard as steel. A star in the making. Loved it! And any film that uses the music if Richard Hawley gets my vote any day!
The Guest House (2012)
Unconvincing, poor quality smultz
I wish I'd read some of these reviews before watching this very frustrating movie. The acting was wooden, the script/plot toe-curlingly poor. I've seen better acting in porn films. This travesty of a film would have redeemed itself if there had been some real sex and straight forward nudity. I can only imagine that, by not showing all, the director thought it was elevating the film to that of a proper romance, but he would have needed a decent plot and some proper acting to do that. They should've gone all out for a proper X-rated full-frontal romp and then it would have at least had something to redeem itself with, because I should imagine that most people coming to this film would be wanting to see that.
You Me Her (2016)
Falls between two stools...
This got flagged up on Netflix as a suggested series to watch so, after watching Californication and the L Word, I thought I'd give it a go as it looked like it would be a sexy, romantic and well-thought out story, but mainly sexy! I feel that it only works, to a degree, because of Jack introducing a female escort into their lives. If Emma had introduced a male escort into their lives, I couldn't see Jack getting quite so interested, or enough people watching it. I watched six episodes in one evening, but lost interest after that. Although I found all the characters attractive to look at, the acting was convincing, and the sex scenes, well, sexy, there wasn't enough nudity to keep my interest up. So, by the end of episode 6, and there hadn't been so much as a flash of nipple, I decided to bale out! Call me one-track-minded but I don't think it's unrealistic to expect a series about a developing threesome (which is a very erotic premise) to have a good portion of naked flesh on view!! Izzy and Emma have some very erotic sex scenes but neither so much as takes their bras off! In episode 6, when they finally jump into bed together, and the girls finally get topless, the camera angles are such that there isn't so much as a naked breast! It must have taken a lot of effort to keep everything out of sight! After being interrupted by the nosy neighbours, Izzy is seen, briefly, in a semi-open robe but blink and you'd miss it. Californication draws you straight in with some great sex scenes and full-frontal nudity, but they tale off as the series progresses, but I still enjoy watching it, and the L Word still throws in some splendidly steamy scenes while still keeping the plot engaging. I'm surprised that a series thought up by a man doesn't have what most male viewers would expect from it. Finally, the chemistry between Emma and Izzy is electric, whereas Jack is less so, and him having such an important job at the college doesn't fit his character at all. It also doesn't add up that he didn't know about Emma's previous sexual experiences with other women. With the story unfolding over such a short period of time, I think it should've been edited down into one 105 minute movie: too much padding. A story like this can only realistically have one ending so, without enough eroticism to keep my interests up, I won't be watching the rest.
