Background music overshadowed speech
21 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I usually love a hystory documentary but unfortunately I found this one frustrating. The show had jungle/dramatic music playing pretty much all the way through the episode. It was louder than the softly spoken lead lady. It overshadowed the speech, covered it up almost and made it hard to follow the conversations. Much like trying to listen to your friend while a band plays right next to you. Not really sure why they felt they needed the music so much? But anyway, what I did manage to hear was interesting though. Luckily they already had subtitles on screen for when some experts spoke. It does put Cambodia on my bucket list.

So bad it makes for laughs
22 October 2023
The female cop is a horrible character who acts rude and childish. Painful to watch. The male cop is the nice guy and set up to be the eye candy. The female cop's mother is over the top, annoying and just so happens to be best buddies with the police chief. The mum also knows every victim/suspect. The showmaking blunders are laughable - suspects holding phones upside down, "working" on computers that are obviously not even on, whole conversation in the car where the driver doesn't look at any mirror once or even move the steering wheel. I gave it a three as even though all three episodes were bad, me and the husband played a game where we got "points" for spotting a blunder. Hence the laughs.

Don't bother
19 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Great idea, great start, gripping first ten minutes. Then it was all downhill as we meet the whole family. 15 days over the course of 4 episodes. None of the characters are likeable, most are narcissistic and downright evil. The rest are weak pathetic characters - I'm surprised they could even walk considering they have no backbone. By the third episode, I was hoping everyone just died. At various points they try to introduce a ghost character and attempt the whole horror in the large old house element. It's annoying rather than creepy. Watched the whole 4 episodes so I could review it honestly. And honestly it is horrendously bad.

Short on laughs
19 April 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I was disappointed with the film - It had a lot of potential but frankly missed the mark. By a long shot. It was not only slow to start, to establish the characters and the point, but the gaps between actual gags that raised more than a faint smile were huge. The majority of the film rotated around gay jokes which could be spotted by a blind man a mile away. But the saving grace was that the usual puns concerning the only black member of the group were avoided. Another disappointing factor was the 'oh so didn't see that coming' policeman - who was just Dr Cox, from Scrubs, in a policeman's uniform, almost as though Scrubs were filming next door and the actor didn't have time to get out of the Dr Cox character. Anyway, I believe that I have said enough - enjoy the film.

Best romantic comedy in a long time
2 January 2006
Its been a long while since i've enjoyed a romantic comedy so much - possibly the last romantic comedy I enjoyed as much was Two Weeks Notice in 2002. The cast is fantastic - Mark Ruffalo and Reese Witherspoon make for great on screen chemistry and the script is sharp yet it is not all out and out comedy, it has subtle moments and enough tender moments to make it gel and become believable. Even the men in the group enjoyed the film, they were laughing and sighing along with us girls, which is quite impressive as usually they regard romantic films as girly trash to be avoided like the plague. While we didn't set out to see this film, we actually wanted to watch King Kong but tickets had sold out, it is well worth watching and I can't wait to see it again on DVD!
