Blue Lights (2023)
Very believable and realistic
I live in Belfast and I was born in London. I found this drama to be believable and most of the characters very easy to identify with. Love watching things that are filmed in Belfast too as it's such a great city... most of the Northern Irish people I know can't stand to hear their accents on the TV! I personally love it.
I enjoyed the dynamic of the new recruits - even some of the longer serving officer's stories which were a little cliched but can be forgiven because life is often the same...
Absolutely LOVED the character of Gerry and his warmth with the younger officers also.
Definitely worth a watch if you liked Line of Duty et al.
Luther: The Fallen Sun (2023)
Weak but watchable if only for Idris Elba
Sad really that the plot was so lacking in this anticipated follow up film. The villain, played by Andy Serkis was without motive, no real explanation for the resources that he had. The acting (as always in Luther) is very good - although sadly the female DCI went from being hardnosed and bada$$ to, well, weak and feeble.
The whole movie had more holes than swiss cheese... especially the rushed through prison stretch! Even though it was 2 hours 10 minutes long, it felt rushed at all times and nothing explained enough to make it enjoyable or to make you care enough.
It is watchable for a rainy Sunday afternoon but it isn't half as good as the first season of Luther sadly.
The White Lotus (2021)
An escape... exactly what is needed!
I have just finished watching the second season. I actually preferred it very much more than the first season. Sicily was such a perfect and beautiful host to this wonderful series. I don't want to spoil a thing by mentioning what happens but I loved every single second of this show! Every single dysfunctional, perfectly cast character. Just wrap up warm and let the sunshine in the show envelope you into dramatic, escapist intrigue!!
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
10/10 for the second season - 8.5/10 for the first - season 3 will be even better - even though we have no idea where it is even set! I would love the 3 generations of Sicilians to be in it, I would love to follow Porsche and Albie and see where that leads... So many possibilities and so long to wait to watch the 3rd season!!
Rosie Molloy Gives Up Everything (2022)
Not fair that its being judged that harshly!
Sadly, I know alot of excessive people so this was like watching a bit of a docu series of my acquaintances! I like Sheridan Smith - I find her very easy to watch and believable in most roles.
Really enjoyed the series. Loved the cast. Will I remember it as much as other comedy/dramas? I don't know but I had some laugh out loud moments and i definitely felt some affinity with the protagonist...
Loved Ardal O'Hanlon as dad. Very funny - typical Irish humour and Pauline McGurk constantly asking everyone's Christmas plans was very reminiscent of the irish females in my family!
Was it perfect? No. But I enjoyed it very much.
Paper Girls (2022)
Complicated but Entertaining
I have never read the comic book and knew nothing of the story line but i found the show engaging and enjoyable. I thought all of the child actors were excellent - with special mention to Mac and young Tiffany. Its an escape - very entertaining and the soundtrack is nostalgic and different.
I liked it. Some of the weird reviews about groomers and bad language are somewhat strange but give it a go! It's very good without being unique or amazing!
