Bad Film
24 September 2023
The film has an excellent set design, very studied, analyzed and well executed. It also has very good costume direction, with the clothing of the period although the SS uniforms do not convince me. However, the British are not very good at reproducing German culture, they always take it to an exaggerated or misinterpreted side. In this film we can see that they used words in German to try to place the viewer in Germany and understand that it was not England. Another negative point of this film was the poor focus given to the burned books, the story should be focused on those books, it does not give strength to how important the books are, it even remains in the third plane. On the other hand, the poor quality of Sophie Nelisse's acting causes the production to be downgraded even though it has two very good co-actors. The shape of the timeline within the story is also not convincing, the girl acts as if her character has just arrived in town but years have passed.

A poorly executed and poorly written production but a great story in the hands
9 May 2023
August Diehl doesn't suit nice guy roles, and his interpretation in English makes him even weaker. It is a film that had a very good idea, however by limiting it in English it lost strength, lost veracity, a great opportunity to make a great film but it was wasted.

The scenes are sometimes long and meaningless, you can also see some avenging Jews at the beginning of the post-war period, which could have been very difficult due to the chaos in Europe at that time, due to fatigue, not having the correct information and basically being homeless and penniless.

I think August deserves better productions and should find roles that suit his character, not his ideology.

Lars Eidinger's masterpiece
18 February 2023
An impeccable German production, from the costumes, editing, scripts, actors, but above all an incredible performance by Lars Eidinger.

This film covers the life of a man who ruined his life for helping the Stasi, the filmmaker Franziska Stünkel rescues the true story of Werner Teske (Franz Walter in the film). When Walter is sent as a spy to West Germany, it will not take him long to realize that the system to which he has sworn allegiance is not what it seems, as they will force him to carry out highly questionable practices, such as blackmail, psychological pressure and diagnostics forged.

Good movie but... not the same as the book
20 December 2022
Good movie but... not the same as the book.

The film is one of the best of the Great War that I have seen, even one of the best of war that I have ever seen! In addition to being the first version of All Quiet on the Western Front in German, with excellent German actors, it has that German spark of making war and political movies better than the American ones. If I hadn't read Erich Maria Remarque's book, I could put this movie a 10, however there are many points in the book that do not come out, and there are distortions in the story that make the movie lose value. For example, the chapter where he returns home on military leave and finds his home diminished, hungry, sick, reading this psychologically changes the story! In addition, the part where he has to spend time in a military hospital with his friend Albert is not told in the film, this was crucial in the book since it narrates in detail how bloody a field hospital can be.

But the movie is epic and exciting, it's worth going back and seeing again, I loved it.

Negative point for the scriptwriter.

Why in English? Why?
6 November 2022
An incredible movie cast, wasted by a dismal script writing, but the worst thing is that they made it in English. What purpose did he have if the characters were German, the German actors, the whole meaning of the film was lost. This story deserves a second chance directed by Germans, starring Germans and written by Germans.

I have tried to see the end of this movie and I have not been able to see it completely, my being does not understand how badly written this movie is, I will not waste time again. The scenes of the planes are very short and the character of the Red Baron gave for more poetry and character.

I can't offer more than a 4.5 rating for this movie.

It's ok movie
21 May 2022
The plot of the story, based on real events of World War II, the story could have been for something more than a love intrigue, that was fine for the 50's. But let's suppose that they were faithful to the book, the production is good, good performances, however the musical and sound direction leaves much to be desired, they chose the music very, very badly, almost from a low-cost amateur film.

Good Movie
13 April 2022
An impeccable work in scenery, art direction, costume study, with a terrifying and cruel story. The direction manages to trap you in history under the monstrous death factory of Auschwitz Birkenau, without the need to risk the production in unnecessary visual effects that some productions comment on wanting to show a concentration camp.

I didn't find the movie I expected
8 March 2022
For those of us who read the Diary of Anne Frank, it is hard for us to understand why in this film the interpretation of Anne plays an immature and sometimes arrogant adolescent role, but nevertheless in the book it is understood that she is a child when she entered the attic. And came out as a teenager with curiosities of his age.

The interpretation of the writer, Marian Batavier, does not fit Anne's book or the spoken version of her father Otto Frank after surviving the holocaust and does not fit the character written by Hannah Goslar herself in her book "Remembers" . And the adoration and idolatry shown in the film by Hannalí towards Anne is quite exaggerated.

The film has several valuable points, such as the interpretation of the young Josephine Arendsen as Hannali, especially her character explodes in professionalism when being in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. But the film lacked explosion, it lacked great performances at key moments, I imagined a great film like the Hungarian Fateless, too bad it wasn't.

A perfect movie! for James Bond
29 November 2021
An exquisite production, with the best taste in design, scenery, photography and acting cast. An incredible direction from Cary Joji Fukunaga who is becoming more and more one of my favorite directors. But above all the scenes my favorite is the first 20 minutes of the film, it is a masterpiece to the super, to the drama and to the action. Long live this British spy, thanks Daniel for being Agent 007 your movies will be seen for years!

A story of military romanticism and love
24 November 2021
A German production from one of the best film studios in the world. Based on a story of a young and daring Luftwafe pilot, becoming a legend from the skies of Europe. Behind a German love story, between this young pilot and a pretty school teacher. Great stories and images this film leaves us.

A disastrous film
16 November 2021
After enduring an hour and a half of gruesome performances and terrible production errors, I have concluded that you have to be scared if Netflix recommends a new movie with Nicolas Cage.

But beyond the poor and undernourished performances of a group of amateur actors, it is necessary to identify the culprit of this bad film, he is called York Shackleton, a bad director and film writer who had a wrong acting life at the beginning of the century and now he's burning alive as a film director and producer.

A movie sequel begins
16 November 2021
This entertaining film tells the life of a young German fascinated by the world of Safes made but especially by the one made by a man named Wagner who re-enacts Richard Wagner's work "Der Ring des Nibelungen" in his four powerful Safes of Bank. The young German named, Sebastian, is recruited by a small army of bank robbers, who go after the millionaire treasurers of the Wagner Safes.

Matthias Schweighöfer's performance is incredible, funny and extraordinary, we had already seen his potential in the movie The Red Baron.

Netflix's Army of the Dead franchise is only just beginning.

An epic movie

There is nothing more interesting than seeing a post-war German production, they have accurate information, great fact-finding and authentic scenery. The performances are of a high standard, it is worth seeing it more than once.

The magic of Space Jam is missing
19 October 2021
For those of us who grew up watching Space Jam of the all-powerful Michael Jordan we will surely not like this new version very much. And it is that nothing can be reproached to LeBron James who made a great effort to ignite that magic but rather the error comes from the excess of excess computer production.

The plot is loose, chaotic in colors, chaotic in production and with little or very few moments that make you laugh. It is hateful to compare but in this case it was necessary to compare it with the first film, so this new version leaves much to be desired.

Bad bad movie

My previous review was deleted! I think this film is an offense to the narrative traditions of Germany and an offense to the memory of the Brothers Grimm.

Why is this movie called The Forgotten Battle?
16 October 2021
I am currently reading the 1944 Battle of the Bulge by Antony Beevor, this film comes to me at the best moment to understand the struggle that the Canadians and the British went through in the attempt to capture a port in Europe. The production entertained me from minute 1 to the end, the scenography is perfect, they do not use misused computer technologies to recreate the past, on the contrary they handle very good methods to catch the viewer in a scene of war, of partisan struggle and a German disappointment. It is worth highlighting the good studio work of the excellent costume director Margriet Procee, it is an Academy Award winner. The question is why this movie is called "The Forgotten Battle? Will it be because of Operation Market Garden? I don´t know.

Wowwww!!!!!!!!!
7 October 2021
Great! Great! Great movie! I am passionate about German history, from Charlemagne to Merkel. But mainly I am passionate about the German 20th century including the study of the Holocaust, I have studied the subject for many years, I had not come across a film that described Auschwitz-Birkenau so well after having seen "The Son of Saul" another extraordinary film in this case from Hungary. Every detail of The Auschwitz Report is exciting and is an accurate story if you compare it with the 1985 testimonies of the documentary film Shoah by maestro Claude Lanzmann. What impressed me the most about this film was the light, an almost perfect art direction that makes you feel in the place without having to resort to computer effects. It is a 10/10 movie although it could add more points.

A very intense story
1 October 2021
A captivating, intense and action-packed story. The truth was that I had read on this subject about the tunnels of the Western Front of the Great War, where it was narrated how decisive this race of moles had been. However, no film, that I knew of, had narrated this war theme, it is exciting to find "The War Below", with very good actors, a spectacular script and an impeccable general art direction, costumes and photography !!! It's a great option to watch that one more than once!

Good story
27 September 2021
An incredible story based on real life events from 2008 and 2009, with a very well managed script and an incredible direction, however the production of this film chose poorly by choosing Evan Peters as the main actor playing Jay Bahadur, it took away force the character, you could even feel in a bad movie at times, made the story send the wrong and distorted message.

Sometimes ridiculous and exaggerated movies are entertaining, this is the case with this movie. This film kept me captive and wanting to see the end, it is a production to see sitting in bed on a Sunday.

Battle against the bureaucracy
19 September 2021
It is a film that shows American culture in all its expression, Values vs Economy, Reason vs Economy, Humanitarian Act vs Economy.

A film by a director who was unknown to me, Sara Colangelo, for me it is a pleasant surprise to discover this young director. I also loved the performance of Amy Ryan as Camille Biros, she managed to play a mature woman, very professional of these times.

An incredible surprise
18 September 2021
A low budget German film but very well run from start to finish. It is true that some performances leave much to be desired but the film generates emotions, it has a strong plot, suspense, drama and action. Very good art direction, excellent scripts and a very good cinematographic direction in general.
