Tin Star: Commitment (2020)
Wish they hadn't bothered
Loved the first two series but this series, especially this episode, is drivel. I used to care about the characters now I'm hoping none of them make it to the end. This entire episode seems to be the two main characters acting like love struck teenagers. So far, they've knocked innocent people out, murdered two people and taken Cocaine in a public place. Am I supposed to be rooting for them? I also have to keep reminding myself that Tim Roth's character is supposed to be a police officer! If next episode is just as bad I'll give up. The only good thing about this series is it's filmed in the beautiful city that I was born in.
After Life (2019)
Brilliant in every way.
As a person who suffers with depression and loneliness, watching this series can be a bit of an emotional rollercoaster for me. One minute I'm laughing out loud and then the next I'm sobbing at something that rings all too true for me. Ricky Gervais is a comedy genius and knows how to even the two out. And I love the Alsatian.
Jumanji: The Next Level (2019)
Not so good
I really enjoyed the first movie but this one, not so much. The jokes seemed forced and not particularly funny. Even Dwayne Johnson's smouldering look wasn't funny this time around. At least Karen still looked beautiful as ever
La casa de papel: Todo pareció insignificante (2019)
Neyma????
Thought I was imagining things when he popped up. The next Vinnie Jones maybe lol. Good episode.
Cold Pursuit (2019)
Word for word and scene for scene
The same as the original but I actually preferred this version which is so unlike me. Liam Neeson is perfect in the part. If anyone has seen Life's too short, in which Liam attempts to tell a joke but fails because of his serious nature, you'll get why this works so well. Loved every minute of it
Dumbo (2019)
Why all the non- haters
As others have pointed out, the acting in this movie is pretty awful, especially from the young actress who has no facial expression whatsoever. I was willing to suspend disbelief that the two children were supposed to come from the same parents, just more Disney PC garbage - who cares but at least get actors that can act! Even over the top acting would have been better than this. Thandie Newton is an excellent actress but unfortunately it obviously hasn't rubbed off on her daughter. I know it was her debut but the cgi Dumbo acted better so I can only assume this was a favour. As for the movie itself, where was the music and the songs? They made an excellent remake of The jungle book, The lion King is fantastic and Abadan is ok so what went wrong with this. Disappointing.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Good but always questions when time travel is used
Paradox's paradox's paradox's. My main question is, if captain America went back in time to be with his woman, what happened to the captain America that was already there in that time? Did future Steve Rogers kill of past Steve Rogers? And if Captain America wasn't around then how could everything in civil war and the winter soldier have happened? Anyway I enjoyed the movie but wasn't anywhere near as good as infinity war.
Breaking Bad (2008)
An apology
Many years ago, a friend of mine told me to watch this new series called Breaking Bad. The way he raved about it I thought I'd give it a go just to shut him up. I really couldn't get in to it and, after the pilot episode, gave up and didn't watch it any more.
Fast forward to 2019.
Looking through Netflix I came across this series once again so thought I'd give it another go.
Now, I don't know if I've changed in these past years or I just didn't give it long enough first time round but, Wow! Over the last three weeks I have binge watched the entire series, averaging four episodes a day (unfortunately I have to work as well). What can I say about this series that hasn't already been said by other reviewers who are more grammatically articulate than I am. It easy to see why Breaking Bad won as many awards as it did. The writing is superb, not to mention the acting from its two main stars, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul as Walt and Jesse. By the end of the last episode I felt my heart was broken. Like a break up in a relationship I would now have to get by without these two in my life. It's been an emotional rollercoaster of a ride but I enjoyed every minute of it. From Jesse's awkward moment having dinner with Walt and Sky, to Walt's maniacal laughter whilst under the floorboards of his house.
So to my friend I owe an apology. I should have listened to you and watched this great show a long time ago.
Sherlock: His Last Vow (2014)
Poor
I can't believe the high rating this episode has. This was a completely awful episode and I am beginning to think the writer is merely bowing to the over the top fan geeks out there (my daughter included) who fill the internet with so called fan fiction about Sherlock, John and Moriarty all being in some love triangle. We had a glimpse of this in the first episode of series three which had Sherlock and Moriarty leaning towards each other about to kiss. Now I have no objection to this at any other time but this is Sherlock for God's sake. So on to this episode. Apart from it being almost laughable that Mary turns out to be some assassin, what exactly did Sherlock do that makes Sherlock, Sherlock. He took a gun and shot a man. Now even I can do that with my average brain. Sherlock's character seems to have completely changed. He would never use a woman the way he did in this episode no matter how cold he is and can they please stop going on about putting things on T-shirts. The first time was funny, now it's just boring. Those over the top fan geeks will put anything on the T-shirts anyway. I should know, my daughters wearing one now. Oh yes, and Moriarty coming back? Please! In an interview Mark Gatiss was asked if Moriarty was really dead and answered that yes he was and that it would look a bit daft if Sherlock and Moriarty met in the street and said "You're not dead. Me neither". I don't know if the writers are trying to be clever but this just has a feel of desperation to it. All in all, this whole season has been a big let down.
Ghost Rider (2007)
A Jeckyl and Hyde of a film
I cant quite put my finger on it, but there was something definitely missing in this film. It might be the direction or it might be the acting but after watching this film i had a feeling of being double crossed. The hype and the build up to Ghost Rider seemed to have lasted years so my expectation was high. What i got though was a film that felt like half had been filmed on one occasion with a big budget, the other half on another occasion when cash seems to have been tight and the actors couldn't be bothered to act. Some of it was eye candy, some was pure monster. I have a feeling this could go down as a turkey. I give the film 5 stars for the half that was good.
