Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part III (2022)
Underwhelming Confrontation
I'm so underwhelmed by the confrontation between Obi-wan vs Vader. It was not very cinematic, the score was weak and the ending of the scene was entirely predictable.
ALSO it is clear to me the writers are scared of having too much dialogue between the two so they can avoid contradicting the original films or offending the fans. This whole series very much feels like a money grab opportunity to see two of our favourite characters have a fight again and go back to how they were. ZERO character progression.
We've been waiting years for this opportunity and I feel it's being missed, mainly by the writers and director.
Rooney (2022)
Everything you already knew
I'm fairly certain this documentary could be made without Wayne Rooney's contribution. You would still come away with the same insight you already had about him as a player and what you read in the papers.
Skirting around stories you want hear, not being completely open about what happened in them, too much footage of old football matches and interviews with fellow professionals saying all the stuff you've heard a million times before on Sky Sports.
It's all very meh. It feels like this film has been made with a couple of interviews of Rooney, a filming afternoon at his house and some short interviews with pros telling us how great he was AND a TONNE of video tape from the Premier League and FIFA tournaments.
I think it's possible to piece this film together using YouTube footage if you really wanted. It's clear, his agent Stretford still clearly has his grubby little hands on commercial Rooney stuff.
Love and Monsters (2020)
Absolutely loved this film
So surprised by how much I enjoyed this film. I really wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was.
Hope there is a sequel as there is so much potential to explore more characters and stories!
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Do this, do that. Got this, Got that.
Genuinely shocked at the terrible pacing of this film.
Forget the plot for a second. The film never gives you a second to think?! The characters do a thing, do another thing and blitz through the Galaxy to another thing in lightning quick succession and you feel limp watching it. The film doesn't breathe...at all?!
As an audience member, going to the cinema is a passive experience, it's the director aim to make you feel something. You have no choice in this film but to just sit there, take it and try to keep up this ridiculous plot. How can an editor work on that and think they've done a good job is beyond me.
Lightsaber fights are rubbish and have no meaning. The choreography is average, not worthy of the final chapter in the Stars Wars Saga.
The space battles are crap, the worst of any Star Wars film to date. No dogfights, no sense of danger. When a resistance person does get killed you're really not bothered.
Others will destroy this film for its narrative in depth. And it's all completely justified. It's a poorly thought out Trilogy of films that doesn't deserve the Star Wars title it has. But the pacing, this is appalling work by the editorial department and JJ.
