Del Playa (2017)
Soooooo bad
This movie is so bad that I didn't even realize it was "loosely" based off the UCSB killings...I say loosely, because after two attempts, I still had no idea wtf this movie was about. If a movie is based on current events, I should easily be able to identify the plot. Hell, I just thought Claire (unbeknownst to herself) had hoe tendencies that made all the dudes fond of her. But, that was not the case. She was dealing with her boyfriend's death who had a little big man complex and got his ass stabbed while they were in high school. At least I think that was it, because like i said, I had no idea of wtf was happening.
I'm writing this review as I'm making my second attempt to watch this movie. And just like I can't find the energy to finish this movie, I can't find the energy to point out all of the flaws in this movie to finish this review. Good luck to all those who are bored enough to watch this movie.
Clinical (2017)
Decent until the end...
This movie actually started out pretty decent. One of the scenes in the first few minutes caught my attention and I was ready to settle in and enjoy a good psychological thriller.
The premises is that Jane, a psychiatrist, specializes in patients with traumatic experiences and when she has a traumatic experience of her own at the hands of one of her patients, she decides to take on more easier patients at the advise of her own psychiatrist. That is, until Alex comes along. He is a man who suffered a horrible car accident and is severely disfigured. He has had a few reconstructive surgeries and now he no longer recognizes himself. She agrees to see him and in the process, the events of her past experience begins to haunt her more and more and she quits making any progress of her own.
Now if I say any more, I will give up the "twist" of the movie. Yes, there's a twist and although I didn't necessarily see it coming, once it was revealed, the movie somehow took a turn for the worst. I don't know what happened in the last 30 minutes, but it didn't go with the flow rest of the movie. It became somewhat unrealistic and almost laughable in a bad way.
Let's Be Evil (2016)
Promising, but a let down
I'm so perplexed as to how this movie has a rating of 7/10 on IMDb. I have seen better movies with lower ratings.
The movie starts out fairly promising. Jenny gets accepted to the Prosperity Project which is a mystery to her and the viewers. We later find out that Jenny along with Tiggs and Darby are chaperons to kids who are basically geniuses and use VR technology to further advance their knowledge. I guess the kids get bored and decide to take over the facility's programming. And one small note, you can only see all of this thru the VR glasses. Once you take them off, you only see darkness.
One of my main issues with this movie is that it is based on the premises of advanced technology, however, the desktop computers are really really outdated. Then, you quickly realize that the Google Glass lookalikes are the the most advanced equipment in this entire film. The setting looks like an old abandoned warehouse where they added colored florescent lights (which actually gives it more of a throwback feel) and threw in some decent CGI to give it a futuristic vibe.
All of this I could get past, but there is no attempt to develop the 3 main characters other than they are broke and need the cash. Then there's the kids. They are confined to this building which feels more like a prison, but you don't really understand why they decide to be little asses and mess with the adults. I must admit that I have 13mins of this film remaining so I don't quite know the ending yet, but I can say that if you're bored on a rainy Saturday, it's not the worst movie to watch, but if you have other options, don't even putting this on your list of things to do.
