Megan Is Missing (2011)
Crushing boredom
My wife got me to watch this because of tiktok reaction videos.
Let me just say that this is easily the worst movie that I have ever seen in my life. Next, let me do you a favor.. Do not watch this. Do not waste your money.
Uncut Gems (2019)
Excellent execution and oscar-worthy performance
This is was nothing short of a rollercoaster ride of a movie. Absolutely brilliance story and perfect casting. The setting and characters feel so real and relatable - you really feel pulled into the movie. The screenplay is perfect - it doesnt get bogged down in jewelry jargon but doesnt make you feel dumb. It gives you subtle foreshadowing to lead you on and then yanks the rug from beneath you right when you think you know what will happen next. Its brilliant. This was filmed brilliant. Further, Adam Sandler and the rest of the cast is unbelievably good. Everything feels so real to the point that it almost has a documentary sense to it. This is absolutely a top movie of 2019.
Destination Fear (2019)
Entertaining Ghost show
Great production value, fun reactions, and a lot of banging noises add up to a surprisingly entertaining ghost hunting show.
The show is pretty standard ghost hunting fare, but they have a few smart gimmicks. First, they take a more vlog or youtube direction with plenty of cameras in their own face. It does a solid job of adding more of a personal touch to the characters. And second, they sleep in these haunted places over night which is just crazy. They really put their themselves in scary positions which is pretty good to watch.
That said, the show still feels a little too vanilla and sterile with overly produced FX and its perfect cuts. Also, the characters often seem outside of when they're doing the ghost hunt part of the show.
Finally, it seems like it shares a lot of resources with Ghost Adventures. Maybe I'm just imagining that but it really can do without a lot of that nonsense - this show can survive on its own.
7/10
It Feels Evil (2019)
Playtime with demons
The show is about a group of demon hunters that constantly say that they are looking to battle demons, but never tell us why.
They go to scary location where they suspect demons hide, try and conjure the demon, say they want to battle it, nothing happens, leave location. That's the show.
It seems like they are trying to building an overarching plot where Tim is being haunted by some demon but nothing really happens. He gets some EVPs which sound like total static and says he has bad nightmares. Are we supposed to feel bad for him? He's going to find demons and conjure them up. What did he think would happen.
Ghost Loop (2019)
So cringey
They say the words 'ghost loop' so much that it almost feels like they're trying to convince themselves that it's a real thing.
Look - I love ghost hunting shows but this whole show just feels odd. The people act and respond in weird ways, their conversations all feel unnatural, and interviews feel scripted.
It's the cringey-est show I've seen in a while.
The Devil's Candy (2015)
Unexpectedly Good!
Loved the music and theming of this movie. Acting between the father and daughter was very good. Watch it.
Dark, Deadly & Dreadful (2018)
Difficult to watch
It's perfect to put on if your doing something else and want something on in the background that you're not following. Otherwise, it's totally awful.
Sandy Wexler (2017)
Surprisingly Watchable
It's sad that I was surprised that an Adam Sandler movie was good, but here we are...
The movie excels by using creative storytelling by a whole host of cameos. It's almost like Sandler called every celebrity that he had in his cell phone and asked them to do this thing. It works well, and gives Sandler's character, a talent agent/manager more legitimacy. The storytelling aspect of the movie helps breakup the movie a bit and adds the occasional comic relief to a movie that would otherwise not be very comical.
The character, Sandy Wexler, is one of Sandler's best creations to date. Sandy Wexler is the one reason the movie is worth watching. The character is corny and strange but ultra likable and friendly. The film does a solid job establishing his flaws, but the story just never rounds him enough and his motivations are a bit obscure in terms of the plot.
The problem in this is the plot. This seems to be the case for many newer Sandler films. This just sort of feel like things happen for a while and then something happens near the end and it's over. The plot just never develops and when the big payoff happens near the end of the movie, you just don't care. Thus, the ending becomes awkward and a little weird before getting saved by the unending cameos and talent in the last scene.
Sandy Wexler is a delight and the cameos in the film carry an otherwise poorly executed story line. The creative storytelling throughout the movie keeps things moving along and adds a fun aspect to the film. Enjoy.
