Striking Distance (1993)
Insultingly contrived dialogue is tolerated by fun
Fun, watchable movie. The dialogue is predictable and would probably fit into an action movie parody better than this film.
Bruce Willis' character is cool. There are so.e nice twists. I sort of new who the killer was going to be early in the second half after a pivotal scene.
I gave this movie a solid 7. Not great film making, yet the cinematography and Pittsburgh setting adds to the positives.
Just take the hour and a half to watch this movie. You wo t be disappointed.
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
Had to remember it was not a documentary...
Bohemian Rhapsody plays out well in just about all aspects, except for chronological consistency. Seeing how many others have covered this, I will not delve any further into the plots inconsistencies. When watching, one simply has to remember it is not a documentary. It is a rock n roll film made by 20th Century Fox. This was a fun movie and if you are a fan of Queen, or rock music in general, you will never cease to be entertained.
Hook (1991)
THE definitive childhood film of my generation.
I will make this review simple: I was born in 1987. I love this movie. If you are near me in age, you probably do too. I dont really know how to explain it, but some people know exactly why this film is so popular with the middle-millenial.
BANGARANG!
Heat (1995)
Astonishing. Fun. Epic.
I'm not going to take up much time. This film is the reason why movies are made. Entertaining to its core. The ending sucked for me because I didn't want it to happen that way, but that was all because of the characterizations of the protagonists (Yes, there are two protagonists in this movie). Unbelievable. Go watch it (again).
Sucker Punch (2011)
Just not very good.
Slow-moving. Boring.
I thought I was still watching a preview until ten minutes in I realized It was the feature.
Negative. Dystopian.
It didn't seem like there was even a reason to be concerned for the characters, despite their circumstances.
Just not my cup of tea. I wouldn't recommend it...
Jaws 2 (1978)
Only bad if compared to its predecessor.
Imagine if Jaws 1975 never hit theaters. During the period of 1975 to 1978, we would be able to say we saw a few great movies such as All the Presidents Men, Marathon Man, Rocky, and so on.
Now imagine you see a movie in the summer of 1978, about a chief on a island trying to tell his superiors there is trouble in the surrounding waters. Would it really matter if he had previous experience with a terrifying monster in the same locality he now seeks to protect?
Do you think you would enjoy a picture where promiscuous, adventurous teenagers are being stalked by one of the greatest predators to have ever lived, yet with less of the campiness and stupidity of 1980s horror films?
These are the reasons in which I enjoyed this film. The score is derivative, yet excellent. There are scenes which display nostalgia, yet are completely realistic and intrical to the plot. Many scenes in the movie may not be understood by a virgin viewer of this franchise. Some of the acting is indulgent, such as tbose playing Chief Brodys sons. Ellen Brody once again gives the movie its human touch. One will no doubt compare the characters actions of the two films. However, the movie, when standing alone, will no doubt entertain even the most cynical of cinephiles.
If I am at all entertained by a movie, I will give it at least a 7 on this site. I can then deconstruct the film after that and award points based on production qualities, acting, plot, script, and so on. This movie was given an 8 because it is downright fun, even though it cannot hold a candle to the perfect original.
Watch this movie, as the main objective we watch movies for will undoubtedly occur: You will be entertained.
Die Hard 2 (1990)
Worth two hours of my life.
To put it quite simply, this is a fun, entertaining flick. I have it the same exact rating as the original, due to the fact I was just as entertained whilst viewing this gem of a sequel. While at times the dialogue seems forced and derivative, most likely to try and capture the banter and wittiness of the first film, the plot and action of Die Hard 2 makes up for any shortcomings it may have if being compared to its predecessor. I had a smile on my face during this whole movie, and even for a little while after. Go ahead and watch it. It's worth 2 hours of your life.
In the Bedroom (2001)
Moving... Gripping... Perfect.
Someone said earlier that this is not their favorite film, while being, however, perfect. I cannot disagree.
Sometimes the critical cliches involve the use of the words "moving,""gripping,""enthralling." While I have scoffed at these past descriptions, I have to stand in humility and say it is only because I had not seen a picture like this one. I was moved for days afterwards. This film has still not left my mind. It is powerful in so many ways.
Watch this movie. Now. You will only be able to watch it once. That is equally good and bad. You will see why.
