Mulan (2020)
Mulan is loyal and brave, but perhaps not true.
This 2022 Feminist Live action version of Mulan fails to impress the phenomenal of note of the 1998 released Animated version of Mulan. This action fantasy adventure war film tells us the story of a great legendary warrior, Hua Mulan, who hides her naturally gifted talent, her chi, to survive in a man's world.
Set during the period when the Imperial Army is under siege by northern invaders Bori Khan, who arrives through the Silk Road (the famous historical trading route) to exact revenge on his father's death and seize the Imperial Capital - Central China. But this time, Khan will dethrone the emperor with the help of a powerful human witch named Xianning, who possesses supernatural and shapeshifting talents and can turn herself into a hawk. So with this, now every family has to contribute a man to go to war.
To prevent her elderly and disabled father from fighting in the war, a young woman named Mulan must rebelliously disguise herself as a man and fight for what she has been hiding from the world while staying loyal, brave, and true. So, did Mulan maintain all three attributes throughout the film? In the film, she is naturally brave and loyal to the army and her nation, but only the last one is true; she conceals her true identity to make the journey. Mulan is loyal and brave, but perhaps not true.
The movie portrays Mulan as a natural warrior with god-gifted superpowers the so called "chi," yet in traditional Chinese philosophy, chi simply refers to a life energy that is developed internally through hard work.
Mulan's father, Zhou (who somehow looks like the current Chinese premier, Xi Jinping), and her ancestors were historically great warriors, and therefore Mulan is no exception. But at that time, women were supposed to be at home, controlled, and bring honour to the family through marriage, so Mulan hides her hidden potential and pretends to be an ordinary woman.
"Your chi is strong, Mulan. But chi is for warriors, not daughters. Silence its voice, and your job is to bring honour to the family."
The young Mulan, with a pitying face, looks at his father with eyes filled with tears. So yeah, she brings honor, but in a way that no one has imagined or expected.
The main protagonist, who is playing Mulan, shows up blank with a monotonous facial expression. Although her action sequences and fighting skills (those 360° highframe rate motion cinematography with camera slowly tilting from horizontal to vertical tilted slanting scenes) were superb, and her transformation into the warrior Mulan was completely perfect, but she miserably fails to impress in the acting performance. She never makes any facial expressions and always appears emotionless. She delivers no expressions on face at all and looks emotionless all the time.
Only the two antagonists appear effective throughout the film: the witch Xianning and Bori Khan, the Rourans' leader. However, not much is done with the story or backstory development of either of the characters. But both are the eye of attraction. The sad, upbeat flute music played in the backdrop of the witch Xianning is superb. It suits the atmosphere of danger and fear with some thoughtful melancholy. Moreover, Bori Khan's terrifying, malevolent eyes are powerful. Even though the fighting scenes were intense, the entire film lacked appeal, and no one's performance stood out.
And the concept of that frenemy witch, who uses shadow warrior skills against her enemies, was unnecessarily added to the plot with so little clarity that it creates confusion, and no character development or backstory of her life is being presented to us. In comparison to the previous animated Mulan had no such character and eventually which was better film story wise, direction and plot. The plot and story were executed better in that movie than this new one. They put so much emphasis on VFX and special effects that they forgot to put some depth into the story and character development and changed the story too much, creating a messy mess of a movie.
The special effects VFX is done okay but not so good. The cinematography and set design costumes are fantastic . Those ancient Chinese villages were designed to be adorable.
The worst part I feel about this film is its dialogue, which is in English. I personally believe that if they used their actual Chinese Mandarin language instead of English in some parts of the film, then it would feel more comfortable to watch and less awkward. The film's soundtrack was done so well that it stylized the film as a war action genre, plus the last two songs sung by Christina Aguilera in the ending credits were empowering, awe-inspiring, and vibrated people. The colour grading in the film is very nice, as we can see a number of shades of different colours at one time. It is very vibrant, beautiful, and soothing to the eyes to watch such beautiful, colourful atmospheric scenes. After this 2020 release, the creators are planning a sequel to this blunder movie and are going to create another blunder movie, but let's see how it does.
The Glorias (2020)
Real Gloria Steinem should "Forgive and Forget" this messy film.
The Glorias could have been a life-changing, uplifting, and inspiring film about Gloria Steinem, a well-known writer, journalist, and women's rights activist.
However, the film's script appears to want to cover every aspect of Gloria's life, which it did, but it fails to capture the true persona of Gloria's influential life.
It is about Gloria's journey, or "the road of her life," from childhood to adulthood. Four women seated on a Greyhound Lines bus illustrate each stage of her journey as it progresses throughout the movie.
These four females were all excellent choices for the role, and they all performed well throughout the film. These stunning black-and-white, slow-motion scenes portray Gloria's long journey down memory lane through the difficult tunnel of her life.
The background music is fantastic; it fits the film's overall vibrant atmosphere, as well as Gloria's enduring spirit.
Gloria was very close to her father, an antique dealer, when she was a child. And through his love of travelling from place to place from Gloria's childhood until his passing, he motivated Gloria to pursue her fellowship in India, where she frequently appears wearing a white saree while discussing Gandhi's nonviolent movement and learning about the challenging lives of women by listening to their tales from village to village.
"No, travelling is the best education. It's the only education really". - Gloria Steinem's Father
Later, when she was a teenager, she was seen as being close to her mother, who had separated from her father, and now she's ill and bedridden. Her mother, who used to be a writer, has given up writing to raise her two daughters. Gloria is hesitant to question her mother about her decision to stop writing, even though she wants to.
The film revolves around the four Glorias sitting together, questioning and reviewing on the decisions she made years ago, how things were for women at that time and how Gloria dealt with them, And what she had to do, what she did with the hardships of her daily life struggles, "in the odd dance of daily life", and how she kept the promises she had once made.
All the four Gloria's converse, sometimes argue and ask questions to each other about the decisions she made on her journey of life from her childhood, to being a teen and young adult Gloria in her 20s working as a journalist for various publications and the discrimination and inequalities she faced there and finally an older Gloria in her 30s when she started her own Ms. Magazine to voice the women's rights and movements while talking and writing about sexism, racism and starting a whole new revolution throughout the whole world.
The film depicted every aspect of Gloria's life, from the minor to the major, such as how she dealt with her fear of public speaking, her father's death, and the "stunning sex object" notion in a television interview.
The justified rage and anguish displayed in that scene with an artistic creative expression that elevates the entire scene to a new level. In straight forward simple language Gloria answers back "Forgive and Forget".
It paid so much attention to detailing Gloria's life that the film feels so long to watch after the intermission. After all, it's two hours and thirty minutes long, and it gets boring in the middle half.
Although the film's script attempted to cover every aspect of Gloria's life, it fell short of capturing the true essence of her influential lifestyle. Gloria Steinem, the epitome of the feminist movements, is undeniably inspiring for women and will continue to be for future generations.
Regrettably, the messy and completely devoid representation or to say the lack of a true depiction of Gloria's bold and daring, inner strength in the film-a result of poor storytelling-it ruins it.
Aileen Wuornos: American Boogeywoman (2021)
"the Angel of Death", - Must be a play or a parody of characters
Aileen Wuornos : American Boogeywoman is a 2021 biographical crime thriller film based on actual events about the most infamous female serial killer in American history, Aileen Wournos, "the Angel of Death", and is about her earlier stage of life, when she was a young woman and got married for a short period with a wealthy and much older widowed man.
First of all, they stated that this movie was a real-life depiction of Aileen Wournos, but clearly it isn't. It's all a fictional plot and was merely based on any real facts. The voice of the older Aileen Wournos performed by actress Ashley Atwood is the only thing that has any resemblance to the actual Aileen; yes the voice does matches.
The dialogue, storyline, and acting are all terrible plus boring, and nothing else but it seems like watching an overacted melodramatic play or a parody of characters.
Somehow, the overall screenplay of the film makes references to the 1992 Thriller/Drama film Poison Ivy, starring Drew Barrymore. Where a young attractive girl befriends a girl belonging to a rich and wealthy family only to seduce his father and possess riches.
The opening gave the film a promising start, and certainly it seems like it's going to be a good film, but after all, it went vague and stupid.
How come they're documenting her in Florida State Prison (2002) a day before her execution, and also Aileen isn't sure she'll be executed the next day?
Many more films and documentaries have been made about the life and death of this famous lady serial killer, Aileen Wournos, and they are far superior to this piece of garbage. Anyhow, If you really want to waste your time, you can watch this movie on Netflix.
Como agua para chocolate (1992)
Food!!! Isn't it true that what people eat impacts their emotions? Yes, it is, and this film truly demonstrates that!!!
This Mexican Romantic Drama Movie was released in 1992, and its plot was adapted from a novel. It won many awards and has also been nominated for an Oscar (as the Best Foreign Language Film of that year).
The plot revolves around a young woman named Tita who loves a man named Pedro who lives on the same ranch. Youngest of her two sisters Tita has been always obliged by her mother to remain unmarried in the name of the family traditions besides to take care of her mother until her mother Mama Elena dies. To remain close with her love Tita, Pedro chooses to marry Tita's elder sister Rosauro.
So, what happens next? Does the film end with a love triangle between these three characters? , will Tita and Pedro can ever Love and live together? Would Tita ever be able to marry in her life? Or would Our protagonist Tita will later meet someone else, more deserving than Pedro and again fall in love?
Like Water for Chocolate is an exciting story about finding and longing for your true love. The main plot of the film revolves around finding your true love and waiting for what you once desired for yourself.
Food! Isn't it true that what people eat impacts their emotions? Yes, it is, and this film truly demonstrates that food, great food, and great cooking are the only things that bring all types of people together, and the film connects feelings ranging from romanticism to eroticism with food and eating. It is through food that humans are emotionally linked, linking moods, feelings, sensuality, love, lust, and all kinds of good and bad emotions.
The entire film revolves around one major theme, i.e., Cooking. In fact, it is a cooking movie that expresses people's emotions and feelings in relation to the kind of food they eat.
Tita is the one naturally gifted cook who has a knack for cooking. Tita enjoys cooking and puts her full love, hidden passions, real feelings, and locked emotions into each dish.
No character in the film can escape their hidden passions by eating her meals, and Tita unlocks all of their secrets hidden inside them with great intensity.
There are various instances in the movie where Tita reminds some of their lost love by her magical charismatic delicious cooking style leading to weeping their hearts out loud - "love of their lives" even Elena too couldn't escape herself from her hidden secrets.
Tita's secrets, all her hidden secrets and recipes, are kept inside Tita's cookbook. Fragrance and smell: the strong smells arose from chopping garlic and onions, which caused the unpreventable crying.
The smell of delicious Mexican food, the spices, the chicken soup, thyme, laurel, steamed milk, and more and more Each recipe in Tita's cookbook is inspired by a memory from her life.
The aromatic fragnances of love and eroticism in the dishes made by Tita such as quails in rose petals sauce - by this meal Tita enters into everyone heart and of course especially that of Pedro's.
- "The secret is that when you cook it, you cook it with a lot of love."
The movie shows Tita's self-empowerment and how rebelliously she improvises her self-growth to achieve independence, freedom, and happiness.
Once modest, restrained, and obedient, Tita later learns to grow against all the injustice done by her mother and stand up to her violent behaviour.
Mama Elena is the man of her family, the boss; she strongly dislikes seeing tears; traditions and family values are extremely important to her. Rejecting weaknesses, she dominates all of her three girls' lives, particularly Tita's (the younger one), controlling Tita's life and leaving Tita with no choice but to obey her orders without question.
Yet her deceased mother doesn't leave Tita alone even after her death, constantly reminding her of all of her wrongdoings. The movie has some supernatural elements-magic in a real situation. The lost soul, the ghost apparition of her dead mother, once again frightens and constrains Tita's rights to live and love.
Cause she is denied to follow her heart so she express her feelings, passion and emotions to the world so she do it through by preparing food by cooking food and sharing with others different different recipes. Breaking every rule Tita's cooking skills allow her to express her inner self to society, and it is through her delicacy that she captures people's hearts, brains, and nerves.
The ending is quite sad though Tita and the story her life choose to remain alive to every generation through her cookbook and with every closing and opening on the pages she wrote in her cookbook diary so will her smell will remain still fresh over time.
-"She'll continue to live as long as someone cooks her recipes."
The only and only character I truly liked in this film was Dr. Brown, the most important but underrated character, who was beautiful, lovable, and the most understanding person Tita had ever met.
He assists her in recovering from depression, regaining her freedom by breaking free from the bonds that cling to her, and achieving ultimate happiness. Brown looked after Tita like no one else in the film.
The one thing I dislike in the whole film, was it's translation in English, i hope the original Film's Spanish dialogues, were more effective than those with English, which usually changes the context of the whole movie, making it sometimes, very unhelpful to understand, the story and context of the Film.
Two Moon Junction (1988)
he's the one gorgeous hunk of a man
Two Moon Junction is a one-time amorous thrilling ride, a softcore erotic porno but it has its aesthetically pleasing elements that'll spice up your mood. Released(mid 1980s) when genres of drama romance and thriller with erotica were a lucrative business.
Well-known for carrying out themes of sexuality in his movies, Zalman King linked the erotics feel this time with scenarios of a carnival set up in a town, the amusement ferry wheel rides set in the sizzling hot summer relished with lush jazzy saxophone scores composed by Jonathan Elias.
Featuring Sherlyn Fenn as Miss April Delongpre, a young and attractive, privileged daughter of a powerful wealthy Alabama senator, a respectable Southern family. April has a modest, morally pure lifestyle but frustrated.
The sorority queen has been graduated recently and pressurised by everyone especially her grandmother Belle Delongpre (Louise Fletcher) to be a guardian of the family cum responsibilities.
After Belle she's the heiress of all her properties including her favourite memorable pavilion Two Moon Junction, the place where April had spent her childhood longing an idle fancy, the sexual urges or her very sexual repression hidden from the external world. Since the title Two Moon Junction, may be a pun, given the erotic nature of the film.
Soon to marry the perfect Mr Chad Douglas Fairchild(Martin Hewitt) , a rich handsome, powerful, prince-like who will make a fine husband and April loves him too. They're like the King and Queen and their big fairy-tale wedding.
Marrying too rapidly provided April no chance for any second thoughts. But the suppressed advances April longed for the libido concealed with layers of restrained passion, the hindrances to love n lust will unveil soon.
What alters her world is the shaggy roustabout at the carnival named Perry (Richard Tyson) an attractive and charming, a mysterious one but bad mannered and occasionally humble who has his time with snobs and douchebags. His masculinity attracts her attention likewise every woman in the Two Moon Junction gets smitten by Perry who arouses excitement in them cited as "he's the one gorgeous hunk of a man." He has his way of flirting with every woman he meets.
Later, he invades her home and took a nice hot shower first off April warns him & even flee outside, but intrigued by Perry this time she obeys her heart.
She had the time of her life, the prolonged sexual repression, the one she detained long which had been brought to light the libido the unchecked desire by Perry.
Conscious that only two weeks left to her big wedding day she engages in a vile adultery. Perry's compelling charisma impulses April to discard the obligations imposed by her elitist society. She now been living a double life that throws her at a junction of uneven paths agitated through spanking new crossroads. An intimate sexual feeling develops towards each other. After each sexual occasion April shed tears and hugs Perry intimately due to her awaken intimate satisfaction. April certainly has to make up her mind, marrying Chad and be safe-secure or the peril trail but passionate with Perry.
Unwillingly, April has to obligate her family and wed Chad. Even though married she and Perry continues the affair. April invades Perry's space this time alike the very first interaction taking a shower. Camera zooms into April's wedding ring cognizant of now she's been married.
Two Moon Junction is a one-time amorous thrilling ride a softcore erotic porno but it has its aesthetically pleasing elements especially those robustic sweaty carnival dudes with muscles and steamy bare chests apparent in the glittering hot summer, without a doubt it'll spice up your mood. Moreover it points out odds of upper and high-class society of their hypocrisy, pseudo double standards in marriage and relationships. Some scenes in the film seemed to be specially targeted for female audiences particularly when April partakes in voyeurism, she masturbates in the shower while secretly sneaking onto other people side by side introduces us to Perry's charm. And scenes like the poor muscular men in carnival with their shirt-off sweaty bodies. The arrival scene of carnival in begins when all including April got intrigued by it. Numerous sex scenes throughout the movie which are in slow motion, are long and sexy.
Written and directed by the king of erotica, Zalman King, famous for showcasing eminent sexuality in Wild Orchid (1990), Wild Orchid II, Nine and half-Weeks, made this in the era of mid 1980s and into early 90s when genres like erotic drama romance thriller were lucrative. Camcorder stuff was similar in Zalman King Wild Orchid II, where a snuff film was made, here Perry records their very first sexual act and later April receives pleasure from it. It was a big success in the Home video market than commercial cinema.
Script is written as a deliberate attempt to a story fancied with bodies and sexy looks of the leads. Fenn fails to project the emotions through her face and body expressions, but her looks(specially naked ones) are stunning. Tyson appears articulate, unintelligible, and inadequate in expressing things befallen due to very nature of the film. It felts like actors were merely casted for the sex scenes. Some Dialogues appears to be unrelated to the dilemmas often hysterical and ridiculous.
Belle character is powersome, an obstacle in April's Perry's relationship. April's fiancée Chad character is an absence of enthusiasm, colourless and plain mostly out of sight. Supporting cast were better than main Two Good cameos one by Milia Jovovich young early teenage face with a petty role and the best being Patti (Kristy McNichol) a freaking bisexual woman was Perry's ex who flirts with April she meets her While hanging out with Perry a very rash driver once a cowgirl who teaches her potent tips to a sexy attire and how-to lure Perry through sexual appeal. She delights the dance floor with her hot seductive intensity.
Never Talk to Strangers (1995)
Sarah was raised ''to never talk to strangers" to finite the deleterious enemies but does Sarah know herself that well or her own life is a strange mystery to her??
Sarah was raised ''to never talk to strangers" to finite the deleterious enemies but does Sarah know herself that well or her own life is a strange mystery to her??
"Never Talk to Strangers" is a desirable mysterious thriller focused on the very early taught basic human tendency,'to not to talk to strangers' (especially girls, women) pushes the viewers to rethink the very moral of whether or not to trust others. Directed by Peter Hall released in 1995 categorised as neo-noir crime mystery psychological thriller.
The main musical score by Pino Donaggio is nicely composed keeping up the thrilling mystery with the ongoing Erotic romance elements of the film.
Reclusively principled Dr. Sarah Taylor (Rebecca De Mornay) a New York criminal psychologist a limited and cautious woman, restrains any relationships or sexual attachments due to troubled past (especially with men) only companion her cat Sarina and The Veer Institute Of Psychology. Her ex-boyfriend Benny Martin (engaged to be married) dumped or ran out past a year. A lusty (one night stand) friend Cliff Raddison (Dennis Miller) lives upstairs who still wanna bang but she just wants friendship.
After a long time her estranged father Henry Taylor (a traveling salesman) suddenly arrives as sick seeking relief and affection but Sarah's severe emotional problems and their difficult past relationship retains Henry from her. She panics by his presence recalls a bad childhood memory of her mother death and uncomfortable calling him dad. Several childhood flashbacks show us how her mother Alison decided to leave his father as he raped Sarah every night and in rage he pushed Alison from stairs and put the gun in little Sarah's hand brainwashing her to pull the trigger. Later faking her death as a car crash.
Her present patient Max Cheski (Harry Dean Stanton) an imprisoned serial killer with a psychiatric history. He is to examine whether he's a schizophrenic or suffering from amnesia or MPD(Multiple Personality Disorders) further his competency to stand on court-ordered trial. By his attorney Mr. Wabash(Tim Kelleher) he attempts to intimidate her evaluation by trying to get defense on an insanity plea,
"If he really is suffering from MPD, one personality has no idea what the others are even doing. It's the whole basis for you defense, isn't it?"
But Wabash thinks she's been prejudiced against Cheski due to some personal issues regarding rape. He's bad tempered, panics whenever he's enquired about the voices he hears (voices telling him to do things).
"He describes finding himself places and having no idea how he got there."
She meets a stranger motorcyclist Tony Ramirez (Antonio Banderas) a mysterious ex-cop recently moved from Puerto Rico, a skilled shooter with a pigtail describes as surveillance consultant (sells security devices) whose fervent charm compels a blazing affair. But for Sarah, "It's hard for me to trust people."Time to time she loses faith and trusts on him, he seems more dangerous and unknown to her causing volatile fights and angry arguments. Over a month of their relationship suspicion rises and the reasons to believe falls.
"Ever since Tony came into her life a lot of bad things; weird threats and damages have been happening."
Initiated by a parcel of dead flowers and garbage at her doorstep, a hand delivered note in the email informing her own obituary in the newspaper and another parcel of her mutilated cat Sarina received by her neighbour Doris. Lastly, the bathroom heater had been tampered and Cliff strangled on confronting the Sarah's home invasion. She begins to doubt the several endangering men related to her as likely to be guilty. The suspicious Tony whose hidden intentions aren't clear, who maybe stalking her all the time
"Its like you want to know everything about me and what do I know about you - Nothing." or an ally by Max Cheski manipulating his crimes as no guilty due to insanity; or the persistent Cliff who maybe jealous over her new love life; or her pedophilic dad with the traumatic homicide past or the missing Benny who abandoned without any explanation; or is it an unknown stranger who's invading her place?? Thereby she hires a private detective to follow Ramirez. "I think I'm falling in love with somebody but meanwhile I gotta check first to make sure he's not a psychopath."
The ending is utterly out of the blue it'll blow away all that you'd naturally anticipated until the climax. The bias prediction of men and women qualities associated with women: nurturing, not aggressive and with men: virile, aggressive, not effeminate.
The lead character Sarah is a victim of child abuse, and her personality is mostly affected of Henry's propoganda of her mother's murder. Whenever trauma reminds, she loses consciousness or sudden moments of panics, losing mind, yelling loud at people. Rebecca De Mornay's acting is alright, a difficult character to be handled wisely but no one outstand or emerges pleasantly. The major flaw is the repellent chemistry of leads their relationship appears cold and first implausible encounter at the supermarket is very unsatisfying.
Spoiler alert: The twist is Sarah is the one behind all the deeds in fact she's suffering from MPD Multiple personality disorder (Dissociative identity disorder) stalking, endangering herself, changes her personality traits like the girl who's terrified of guns later learns how to shoot (got over it). She carefully reads, "Silence On Rape Angers Students" an article on newspaper of a former sexual violence. An angry strong Sarah doing sadomasochism and the strong passionate sex.
Lastly, Sarah alternative personality back to old self (normal personality) not remembering what has happened. The movie displays some early signs to viewers about her mental illness where she forgets about the Mr. Wabash appointment which she'd made earlier; when Cliff asks for vodka, she denies but onlooking he finds one.
"Somebody must have given it to me." (forgotten as she undergoes different personalities under different times and circumstances)
Death on the Nile (1978)
The slow silent scene at The Great Temple Of Karnak captures the silence before a big storm.
Death on the Nile is a 1978 British Detective film based on Agatha Christie Novel (Death On The Nile). Set and shot in 1937 Egypt on a Ship. Directed by John Guillermin catagorised as Crime, Drama, Epic, Historical, Mystery Film. A new version of Death on the Nile is set to be theatrically released on September 17, 2021 by 20th Century Studios. It was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The Famous Ridgeway Girl" Linnet Ridgeway Doyle (Lois Chiles) is an object of envious notice for people around her. An overbearing antagonist, beautiful, powerful and wealthy heiress visits her country house, England to meet her close friend Jacqueline de Bellefort 'Jackie' (Mia Farrow) who's engaged to be married to perfectly handsome but jobless Simon Doyle (Simon MacCorkindale)
"Oh Linnet, He's everything
I've ever dreamed of, I'll die if I can't marry him. I really will, I'll just die."
But when Linnet meet Simon the two locks their eyes and afterwards newspaper headlines reads, "Linnet Ridgeway marries penniless Prince Charming after whirlwind romance."
En masse travels honeymoon to Egypt. This all leaves Jackie acting crazy, possessed with jealousy, carrying a tiny but lethal revolver, stubborn and rage seemed heavy for a perpetual revenge and deliberately following at each sight leaving them nowhere alone. Jackie booms echoing the whole Egyptian sights like a tour guide at Temples at Abu Simbel, to the top of The Great Pyramids, The Sphinx and The Great Temple Of Karnak. Viewers will also feel a bit of pity for Jackie, a poor victim of betrayal in love. The three aren't alone, many associated characters are also travelling Egypt. Enumerating "The one and only famous" Belgian sleuth Hercule Poirot (Peter Ustinov, fictional character based on Hercule Poirot book) apparently on Egypt vacation but keep an eye out on everyone often eavesdrop conversations. Monsieur is fine and dandy, food and wine loving detective, smokes pipe upholding a handlebar moustache. He's everywhere he's required to be.
He meets there his old lawyer friend Colonel Race (David Niven) seemingly who's also on vacation. The chemistry between the two is amusing the adventure fun and solving the dangerous mysterious riddle.
Marie Van Schuyler (Bette Davis) is a kleptomaniac old age lady who drool over Linnet's pearls "will give her every tooth in the head to lay down hands-on on them" and her rude unlucky servant Miss Bowers (Maggie Smith) who grudges against Linnet cause his father Melhuish Ridgeway ruined her family business pushing her into a servant's life. Salome Otterbourne (Angela Lansbury) a drunken romantic novelist working on her new book "Snow On Sphinx' Face" in Egypt (banned in libraries due to her writings about sexuality) who'd a defamation case by Linnet cause of writing about her in one of her book. Rosalie Otterbourne (Olivia Hussey) is her saviour daughter who wants to save her mother's reputation at stake, "You can't libel the dead." A comrade James Ferguson (Jon Finch) admires Karl Marx, hates capitalism and to him, "rich people like Linnet are leech a parasite on the skin of the society should be bumped off." Dr. Ludwig Bessner (Jack Warden) of Bessner Institute, Zurich whose treatment ways were questionable by Linnet. 'The wicked uncle' Andrew Pennington (George Kennedy) her American lawyer and trustee who's embezzling her money, rushes to Egypt in need of a forged signature during the honeymoon buzz. Her maidservant Louise Bourget (Jane Birkin) wanna marry an already married Egyptian man, needs money and quit working for Linnet to which she disapproves of.
On a fine morning the arrogant Linnet's been found dead by her maidservant Louise on Karnak, the paddle steamer travelling down the river Nile. Now, Jackie and Simon can't be prosecuted due to their argument last night where drunken Jackie shoots Simon in rage then Mrs Bowers injected her with morphia who also stayed with her all night and Simon got treated by Dr Ludwig. This strong alibi prevents both from any accusations. Clearly, every character in the movie hold some grudge against Linnet. "My god, how she makes enemies of them all."
(Poirot about Linnet)
Everyone has a good reason (a motive) to kill Linnet somehow Poirot puts each character into frame and picture them into the night of murder.
Now the question is who killed Linnet?
- Madames, Mademoiselles or Monsieurs??
Jackie the victim, was really the victim or she just pretended to be one??
Or
Linnet's no fool that's for sure (she dominated each soul until she was alive) but maybe she was an unknown victim of all from the beginning??
It's a nicely explained film, sequentially structured with it's ongoing elements; various suspects, a careful planning, an alibi creation at its peak, secrets, a love triangle with high risk, a greed or betrayal and lastly the conclusion theory at the end.
Then there's Donkey - camel safari ride and horse back riding too in the Egyptian heat and sand but the Karnak, The Paddle Steamer seemed too cheaper to carry such luxurious people. Multiple languages were spoken throughout the movie (English, German, French and Arabic).
Widely long extended shots of blue Nile (the longest river in the world) presents us opening and ending credits. Camera zoom in and out into a wide angled shot in various scenes, circular motion shots introduces us each character one by one, panorama photography and sequentially edited scenes with repetitive flashback technique makes viewers to understand every plot move very well. The slow silent scene at The Great Temple Of Karnak captures the silence before a big storm. Then heavy breathing clearly heard of a female moving slowly forward to push the stone block from one of the pillar offcourse to kill Linnet then camera circular motion checks on everyone characters position is where at the very moment
The mystery is well balanced with some comical entertaining scenes like when Simon and Linnet tricks Jackie of leaving to railway station she hurriedly follows them only to be fooled; The face guessing game by Mr. Choudhury (I. S. Johar) manager of 'Karnak'; while Mrs Van Schuyler drinking her tea some local boys on the shore laughs and moons at her. But contains a stupid scene too: when Mrs Schuyler arrives to return the Linnet pearls in the Ice room she was still there hiding but Poirot and Race don't even bother to search the room they went out so quickly.
Chocolat (2000)
Chocolat is an extraordinary woman's talent of guessing people's favourite chocolates: chili pepper in hot chocolate; rose creams or the tangy & adventurous - pepper triangle
Chocolat is an extraordinary woman's talent of guessing people's favourite chocolates: chili pepper in hot chocolate; rose creams or the tangy and adventurous - the pepper triangle; bitter/white chocolate; cakes or truffles, a delicious mouth-melting journey with a restless meliorating empowerment.
In the winter of 1959, a wind from North brings Vienna Rocher (Juliette Binoche) a chocolatier and her little daughter Anoushka (Victoire Thivisol) to a quiet lovely little French village, led by ancestors who believed in the traditional principles of tranquility.
Mademoiselle Vienna is radical, an atheist nomad, in order to rent a patisserie with an apartment above but surprisingly opens up a chocolaterie,'Chocolaterie Maya' but the townspeople are celebrating the five weeks of The Holy Lenten Fest (abstaining from food and pleasures).
Directed by Lasse Hallström, it's a romantic-drama-historical film of one woman's requisite for seeking new adventures and her customary of never settling down. Friendly, kind, helpful, Vienna causes hostility to the town's mayor, Monsieur Comte De Reynaud (Alfred Molina) who controls over the village where every villager is expected to worship community church, go to confessions. He's a hard-working, modest and self disciplined man who practices abstinence and often pries on people. Uncertainly, his wife left him over a few months enjoying Venice. He basically considers Vienna's indecent and audacious beliefs as a bad influence and her chocolaterie as shamelessly offensive. Monsieur Comte likes the widow Caroline Clairmont (Carrie-Anne Moss) who works for him and a daughter of the patisserie landlady Armande (Judi Dench) a tired old woman who is cut off from seeing his grandson Luc. Caroline is highly overprotective towards him and considers her mother as an embarrassing, sinful, bad influence.
Vienna routes down on her Romani descent and traditions, dispensing ancient cacao remedies subsequently, on her mother Chitza's trail, putting on a red coat and following the North wind as Maya's generations did for years. With 2000-year-old recipes of chocolate to the Mayan's cultural decors, paintings and historical sculpture the 'Chocolaterie Maya' revives town's passion or cures some of the bitter relationships unlocking a rich, sinful pleasure and temptations.
Comte condemns Vienna's cooking chocolates as a menace to town's traditional moral decency and against abstinence vows, challenging Vienna that she'll be soon out of business and town too. He possesses the villagers to boycott her in the name of immorality.
"It's not easy being different, and going to some church won't make things any easier. The whole town is against me." - Vienna
Vienna manages to up build a connection with a few villagers by changing their lives. She befriends Josephine Muscat (Lena Olin) a kleptomaniac, low-spirited woman whose dominating, alcoholic husband Serge runs a cafe, violent behaviour forces Muscat to abandon him and later she starts working for Vienna's 'Chocolaterie Maya' transforming herself into an empowered, confident woman. She also arranges for Armande to meet her grandson Luc secretly in the Chocolaterie, gradually strengthening a cosy bond that even Caroline's coldhearted mind changes seeing their happiness. Lastly, Vienna's chocolate seashells help Monsieur Guillaume Blerot to communicate with Madame Audel and also fetches an avid customer of unrefined cocoa nips from Guatemala to awaken the lost passion of his husband. Conclusively, the restrained jealous Comte accidentally experiences a smack of Vienna's Chocolaterie and insanely he loses his temptations, busting all sacred vows by grabbing into the sea of chocolates.
Direction, Screenplay Writing, Cast, Cinematography is grandeur especially the performances by three centric women: Juliette Binoche is amazingly praising she's justified in her role as a compassionate, heartwarming Vienna; Lena Olin perfectly played Josephine from a dispirited to a powersome one and Judi Dench an imperfect, sorrow-ridden Armande an old tiresome lady.
Johnny Depp has a small role as Vienna's romantic involvement as a pigtailed man Roux, a drifter whose houseboat is his home and family. Roger Pratt's iconic Cinematography captures the simpler beauty of the town, the rich and deep chocolate preparations by ground roasted cocoa beans; traditional grinding and crushing methods, confectionery that soothingly melts into a passionate craving.
Ghost Ship (2002)
The Last Scene resembles the 1997 Titanic, Here the rusty, haunted Antonia sinks, liberating the souls and displaying the colourful Aurora
Ghost Ship is a 2002 American supernatural horror film directed by Steve Beck.
It was essentially a remake of the 1980 film "Death Ship". It was also received as a combo of two very popular movies, Titanic (1997) and The Shining (1980).
Its plot was set in two time periods: 1962 and 40 years later in the present. In 1962, the Italian ocean liner "Antonia Graza" was sailing the oceans, accompanying the "creme de la creme" society, having fun partying and dancing to a seductive but shady Spanish singer, Francesca (Francesca Rettondini), and then there was Katie (Emily Browning), a lonesome girl in all grownups.
So, very soon, this easygoing party night turns into a horrific and deadly episode of a murderous night, providing us with one of the most terrifying openings ever made in a horror movie.
Then the movie shifts 40 years after taking us to a self-proclaimed weather service pilot, Jack, (who seems quiet and decent, but, as we should never trust someone completely, especially in a horror movie), so Jack introduces the same ghost ship, Antonia Graza, to a salvage crew of six; Murphy (Gabriel Byrne), is the boss of a civilian tugboat, "Arctic Warrior," and their leader, Epps (Julianna Margulies), is a manly woman.
Hence, the crew proceeds in search of Antonia, and guess what they discover Antonia, or more precisely, we can say Antonia discovered them. Now we already know that Antonia is somehow a ghost ship floating randomly for years and is haunted by the spirits of that murdering night, and so will paranormal things occur, like the door opening itself, Katie's crossword replaying, the archaic clock still functioning on this day, and the shapeshifing ghosts. So, Antonia murders these characters one by one as they go their separate ways to explore Antonia. Antonia's good and evil spirits allure and interact with every character, simply revealing their sins, like Murphy's adherence to alcoholism and his drink, likewise chatting with the ghost of Antonia's crew captain about the cruise's history. This scene draws inspiration from the popular psychological thriller The Shining (1980). Here, the main character Jack drinks and chats with a ghost about an isolated hotel. Then, Greer meets the seductive Francesca, and her ghost fills him up with a passionate lust, so that it was Greer's sin as he cheated on his fiancee. For Munder and Santos gluttony is sinful. Epps meets Katie's ghost, who's eventually a good spirit because only Epps was a decent one and, of course, sinless. Ghost Ship was originally scripted by Mark Hanlon in January 1996 as Chimera, as a psychological thriller movie, rather than all the supernatural gore, horror, and violence that were specifically added in the new script, making the film a slasher with all the massacres, gunshots, decapitation, and hanging of the Francesca's character from a hook.
In an interview, Julianna Margulies, who played Maureen Epps, said that the producers discarded the psychological aspects of the original script about what happens when you have too much of something-money is evil, greed, and these two people start going crazy, which is why the cast agreed to do it.
The very opening scene gives the script a good start, but then it's a vague plot, and how voidly the storyline ends was plainly stupid to believe. Like It's all was the work of a devil's follower, and his task was to collect a ship loaded with the souls of sinners. Performances were okay; Emily Browning as Katie played the naive, fearful child, Julianna Margulies as Epps played the female protagonist leading till the end and Gabriel Byrne as Murphy, the matured but greedy one's performance was satisfactory.
The cinematography and visual effects were really effective. The opening shot of the cruise ship Antonia was designed beautifully as she stood out alone. And thus, the last scene resembles the 1997 Titanic. Here the rusty, haunted Antonia sinks, liberating the souls and displaying the colourful Aurora, and it was a spectacular shot.
El lado oscuro del corazón (1992)
a surrealist film, like it resembles a dream or a fantasy world coming from an extremely enthusiastic person
The Dark Side of the Heart (Spanish: El lado oscuro del corazón) is a 1992 surrealist romantic drama movie.
It follows the story of a poet who is on an extreme search for such a perfectly accurate woman-"a woman who can fly, and if she cannot fly, she is wasting her time with him".
Like when he finds out that the woman isn't perfect and she lacks what he desired, then she's very rudely rejected by him through a trap door designed beside his bed.
It was an Argentine Spanish-language film, and it was written and directed by Eliseo Subiela.
Oliver is a young and handsome poet who lives in Argentina.
He's always lost in the vivid world of his poetry, or as we can also say, creative poetic writing and imaginative thoughts.
He dislikes working for an office, so to live off of it he has to sell and share his thoughts, ideas, and also poetry, so that's his way of earning some pennies to survive.
Apart from his visionary world of poetry, Oliver is also busy seeking a perfect, flawless woman-a woman who can fulfil his life with extraordinary passion and magical lust, although it all seems like an idle fancy.
So in search of such an ideal woman, he gets physical with several women and those women who don't fit into his imaginary sensual world, are very rudely rejected by him by just pushing one button in his bed and making the woman fall into the trap wickedly designed in his bed.
Once, Oliver meets a blind woman who can only sense things and perceive the physical world by the power of touch, and she's the one and only person whom Oliver doesn't reject through his bed trap door.
Oliver's life changes when he meets a prostitute named Anna, and he immediately falls for her. Anna also fits into his idealised world of perfect women.
He demands a life with Anna, but this time Anna thoroughly rejects him. She's more practical than theoretical or an imaginary daydreamer like Oliver.
Basically, we can summarise the entire movie as a surrealist film, like it resembles a dream or a fantasy world coming from an extremely enthusiastic person.
However, Oliver is unable to turn down one significant woman in his life, named Death, who's quietly as mysterious as a ghost.
Night and day, she's dressed in black, obviously the colour of death, and always holding a copy of the classified ads just to assist Oliverio in hunting for a job which he definitely hates.
Atrangi Re (2021)
the portrayal of mental illnesses and the huge intermission twist seems to not make any sense in the whole storyline
Atrangi Re is a 2021 Indian Hindi-language romance drama film directed by Aanand L. Rai, who is known for his previous rom-com Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015) and the 2013 romantic drama film Raanjhanaa.
Atrangi Re is a love story of two people belonging to different cultures. Vishu is a Tamilian guy, and Rinku is a Bihari girl. Vishu, a medical student, steps his foot onto the Siwan Junction (Bihar) with his friend Madhu, a psychiatric student. Rinku is a local who is trying to flee from her conservative family. She quickly captures the attention of Vishu and other passengers at the junction.
Whilst in Siwan, we see Vishu dealing with the power outages, network problems, and road floods, which is one thing in the rural areas of Bihar. Vishu had been kidnapped one night, and being forced to marry the eloper girl Rinku was his other trouble. Rinku's maternal grandmother (played by "The Bandit Queen" Seema Biswas) is the head of the household; she's basically a conservative and dominating grandmother.
So, before his forced wedding with Rinku, Vishu was supposed to marry his lovely girlfriend, Maddy, and Rinku too has a boyfriend named Sajjad (Akshay Kumar). Sajjad is a mysterious magician who is anonymous to all except Rinku, and for Rinku, Sajjad is extraordinary and phenomenal. Sajjad's character in the movie seems to appear in diverse roles; to Rinku, Sajjad is his boyfriend, or sometimes a male companion, a mystical magician, or could be a protective fatherly figure.
Atrangi Re was officially premiered on the Disney+ Hotstar app on December 24, 2021. The film stars Dhanush, Sara Ali Khan, and Akshay Kumar in leading roles.
The soundtrack by A. R. Rahman holds the film's atmosphere together. The ongoing romantic tension and amusing moments balance each other. The visual effects were effective in Sajjad's transformation into the magician, and the art team did well in those captivating circus scenes.
And the overall performance by the cast was good. Dhanush was okay. Akshay Kumar's character gets less screen time than those of Dhanush and Sara. Sara needs more improvement. Her facial expressions don't mix well with the dialogue delivery and performance.
Himanshu Sharma's story and screenplay are not the same cliched storyline. It's not your typical love story; rather it is plotted with a huge twist. The dialogues are entertaining, with various humorous scenarios.
But as an audience, the huge intermission twist seems to not make any sense in the whole storyline, and sometimes its plot is illogical and absurd, like why does Vishu have to speak in Tamil in front of Rinku's parents when he could speak in Hindi? And the portrayal of mental illnesses, as well as the entire Sajjad character and his transformation in the film.
Chaos (2001)
A simple-satirical feminist entertainment blended with ongoing comedy cum thrill
Chaos moves so fast scene to scene that it won't waste a single minute of the viewer. An uplifting, motivational helps women to outlook their life becoming independent, free to self-care. Direction and Cinematography give us a real feel of the perilous journey experiencing the character's situation and to our society a positive social message.
A simple, satirical and entertaining film blended with ongoing comedy and thrill, set in Paris it also highlights the prostitution world. Basically, a feminist themed movie centered on two women: Helene Vidal, a professional class French woman and Naomi Totka (Malika), a 22 years old hooker holding back a long difficult past.
Helen a very active, busy woman (always in a rush) and her accomplice are a dominating and selfish, cruel and foolish duo of a husband and son who is somehow alike: Paul Rosario a selfish, workaholic businessman bad-tempered and furious who happens to be her husband and Fabrice a heartless, troublesome son, lazy and immature university student who has been cheating two girls; Florence and a pregnant girl, Charlotte.
Malika is an Algerian moved to Paris, with her father, Zora her sister, and two brothers when she turned 16 her father try selling her for 20,000 francs to an Algierian man. Malika escapes the event with no passport, nothing, and hides until Touki, a pimp approaches her to push her into prostitution where she's beaten and raped up every day, but as she was a good student at school her interest in finance (stock market) helps her to make some good money. Afterwards, she designs plans to quit this hell life by saving money from kicking and selling the drugs or by seducing old men, inheriting most of their wealth.
Chaos occurs a night when Naomi (Malika) gets attacked and beaten up by three guys down on a Paris street, and begging for help she collides with Helene and Paul's car who witnesses the attack to which Helene tries to call an ambulance but Paul locked the car's door denying the incident. "Helene - What about the girl
Paul - What girl?"
(The girl you don't care at first Paul, but later fall in love with her.)
Next day, Helene feeling guilty and responsible visits her to hospital, becomes a case witness and spending days to take care of Malika whilst keeping her job and family at stake what also fuels her husband angers.
She's battered, paraplegic lying in bed, responses come only by her vulnerable wild-eyed reactions (enough to scare the audience), the pimps (attackers) attempt several times to abduct her to sign the old man's proxy Helene constantly looks out for her safety. It's both fun and thrill to watch those scenes when first-time pimp visits Helene chases them as quiet and carefully rise the viewers tension although that dangerous event is filmed by a rhythmically jazzy soundtrack. Another time she hit one using a pile of wood and cover his body under a tarp. Lastly, they succeed to kidnap but instantly Helene tracks down rescuing and taking her to Paul's mother Mamie, a lonely kind woman, usually arrives each year with a gift (like a bottle of walnut oil) to meet Paul (in need of his company and time) but he usually ignores, using Helene to lie and neglecting her around.
The establishment of a sudden friendship between the two leads resonates their troubled lives full of patriarchal men and the so-called inhumanity of the nasty men dealing. Helene's family can't manage without her turning the home and everything into a disastrous mess. And for Malika her sexist brothers and father's Islamic beliefs and honor which are hurdles to women liberation and for the very reason the SOS Racism doesn't help her, and plans to take revenge on those filthy pimps who are beaten and shot at the end. At last, she fools around Paul seducing him using her sexuality to enslave who quickly falls in love with her and later Fabrice too. Later she saves her sister Zora from the same tradition. Ends with all four women are sitting together at lake house now went away from their troubles gaining freedom at last.
Nasha (2013)
Poonam Pandey is the CAPTAIN of the SHIP who SANK miserably.
Social Media sensation Poonam Pandey scores her first commercial debut in 2013 Nasha portraying extremely seductive Anita (25) a high school dramatics teacher, who drives an irresistible sexual arousal in one of her student Sahil Patil (18).
Poonam Pandey is the Captain of the ship who sank miserably. Could've been made more worthwhile with better direction, cast and screenplay.
The movie plot revolves around a teenage boy coming of age experiencing various emotions of love and lust, procuring maturity whilst growing up from mistakes, meanwhile pulling adult jokes and pranks around with school buddies. Basically narrates a boy's point of view reveals his adolescent fantasies.
Nasha explores an emotional link interwoven with strings of affections, sexual cravings, intense possessiveness fluctuating jealousy. An enticing journey of temptation, seduction, conclusively gaining maturity.
Sahil a carefree teenager has a girlfriend Tia but when meets his new drama teacher, Anita he develops an infatuated feeling for her, who has a boyfriend Samuel whom are a happy loving couple. Sooner he has to resign from the peril relationship the one to last soon as to long forever.
Director Amit Saxena well known for his hottest erotic thriller Jism, this time tried hard to compile up a story as emotional as audience hoped for but lacks the cinematic feel. Narrative of teacher student relationship is not newish in Bollywood.
Model turned actress, Poonam Pandey being featured in this teen erotic drama may attract its targeted audience (yes, the youngsters!)for erotics steamy sequences holding love scenes but it's more than skin show Its more of an emotional tale rather than horniness divulged with sexual appeal and sensuality. Deliberately added adult dialogues sometimes fruitless with cheesy story line.
Poonam Pandey first appearance will let you know that she can't act nor can deliver dialogues neither can express. Only one thing is sure she can give those sexy hot looks. Male lead Sahil impresses, imparts potential through his expressions. Climax turns out gets very boring, slow and somewhat the characters frustrates us. Poonam she's the one the only reason to lure audience, but as said she lacks to show the true art of erotic seduction plus her persona fails on the screen lacks the charm expected, which turns out to be a big disappointed. Neither bold nor fascinating not in the slightest intoxicating as film title refers Nasha (intoxication). Could've been made more worthwhile with better direction, cast and screenplay.
Roy (2015)
Weak plot and poor storyline written for this movie
And not only plot and storyline is poor but also acting by Jacqueline Fernandes is very poor
