Freaks (2018)
Enjoyable Movie
Very much a variation on a theme of the old Stephen King Story Firestarter.
Lexy Kolker plays Chloe a young girl with powers.
Drew Barrymore played Charlie a young girl with powers in Firestarter.
In fact Lexy Kolker is so similar in acting , by the end of the film I thaught maybe it was Lexy Kolker playing Drew Barrymore in freaks.
Overall a good film but lacked in originality,
Gwendoline (1984)
Not a great movie but very watchable !
I bought the soundtrack years before I saw the movie.
The music by Pierre Bachelet is fantasy mix of electronic and acoustic instruments and very different to his earlier soft "Emanuelle" series music.
The movie is a different kettle of fish .
Its a great idea but the amateur acting lets it down. The nude scenes with Tawny Kitaen almost make up for the lack of acting skills and I settled for a 7/10 !
The Boat (2018)
Almost a great movie
The film IS engrossing and well acted but at the end was a little confusing.I think that is why it is getting a lot of low scores.
The boat in the title is named after Aelous , who in greek mythology was the keeper of the winds and king of the island of Aeolia, one of the islands close to Sicily.Aeolia was visited by Odysseus and his crew of the Odyssey.
Aeolus gave them hospitality for a month and provided them a west wind to carry them home to Ithaca. He also provided a gift of an ox-hide bag containing all winds but the west. Odysseus and his crew members traveled steadily and anxiously for several days, but with his native land in sight, Odysseus was overpowered by sleep. His men proceeded to indulge their curiosity to see the costly presents which they thought the bag contained, opened it and out burst the imprisoned winds with such a roar that the force drove the ship back to Aeolus' island. Aeolus refused to provide any further help because he believed that their short and unsuccessful voyage meant that the gods did not favour them.
So is this a modern retelling of the story..
The boat itself seems to be haunted or controlled by something ethereal , and it seems to be intent on killing the lone sailor (very much like the movie "The Duel") right up to the end when suddenly it decides to just drop him off on his island home.
If the film had a different ending that made sense I would have given it an 8 or 9.
Howard the Duck (1986)
Good fun
Not the greatest of films but certainly not the worst(it certainly doesn't deserve the zeros or ones that some people have given it.
From beginning to end its just hilarious . The bad effects give it a b movie feel and the acting is a bit over the top and cheesy but that just makes it funnier.
There are a couple of scenes that may be a little racey but I think kids would probably find them funny and not offensive.
The duck himself is fairly good ,no cgi here just good old fashioned anamatronics.Although the design of Howard does include very human eyes and makes him look like a young kid wearing a duck suit , he's a likeable character and you forget that he is indeed a young person wearing a duck suit .
Over all it is just a silly fun film and worth a watch .
Murder She Said (1961)
Classic movie
Even at the age of 69 ,Margret Rutherford gives her all and plays the definitive Miss Marple.
Although Agatha Christie didnt approve of the choice , when I think of Miss Marple I always picture Margret Rutherford.
Charles Tingwell and Stringer Davis start their 4 movie recurring characters and even future Miss Marple star Joan Hickson plays a part as house keeper Mrs. Kidder.
Great film
