Rapture (2019)
Interesting
In comparison with Cheynobel there was makeup techniques used that was award winning.
The idea of the characters experiencing it as a localized event and then realising it was a large scale event gave the story line a feel of realism.
Including the sinners' prayer and relevant bible verses added a profound sense of suspense.
The special effects of the alien beings was appropriate in the way they were exposed by degrees.
I'd recommend this film to everyone and anyone interested in sci-fi and or the subject of the rapture. The cast, crew and production team did an excellent job of presenting and story telling.
Joy (2015)
Outstanding in dealing with issues of self worth and confidence
Joy, the protagonist of the film carries the other characters when they can't make things work. She makes things work for all of them and us. This process is refreshingly unique in that she constantly thinks on her feet and resolves situations with surprising results. The suspense of the plot allows the audience to be involved in not only her journey but those of her family as well. Encouraging everyone to reach out for that special gift.
Queen of the Desert (2015)
Historical Renactment of Importance
As the Ottoman Empire was collapsing Gertrude came in with knowledge of the tribal systems of the people and was able to help the authorities set up kingdoms with appointed Kings from the appropriate lineage to assauge the people. Thereby making the transition to life after the Ottoman Empire peaceful and firmly undergirded. The acting, settings and captioning made it an easy and enjoyable film to watch. A useful tool in the study of Gertrude who was the "Uncrowned Queen of the Desert who was divinely assigned to appoint Kings".
Hidden Figures (2016)
inspirational narrative documentary
When Katherine said, she likes to be around smart people I think what she meant was she likes to be around people who give credit where credit is due and make changes accordingly. As the movie unfolds we see that this is a key to the harmony which became the backbone of NASA and may have been the starting point for the STAR TREKK series.
In the Living Years (1994)
Recommending this movie for Health Programs taught in Schools
There are recurring issues which teenagers face regarding their parents. Looking to them as role models and influences for their future real time teenagers can discuss and observe some of the loop holes and issues that occur in this familiar scenario of parental abandonment and neglect. With a view to reconciling their past with their future and finding a way not to allow the past to impinge on their future self.
The Accountant (2016)
Excellent
As a subject for the study of Asperger's it is complete. Unaware, Neurotypicals may baulk at Christian's deadpan expression and techniques used to overcome stress such as loud noise and glaring lights. It is a fictional stretch to imagine that a savant can be an all rounder but it may be within the realm of possibility. Just as the Xmen is but more realistically it echoes themes of justice and fairness which were first voiced in the much loved classic To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
Life, Animated (2016)
Outstanding
Thank you Owen for helping everyone understanding, 'it is just your voice' which prevented you from communicating. Enjoyed every minute of this ground breaking documentary. Ground breaking because it was about Owen's personal journey shared with the world through a medium that he loves, animated film which was a vehicle which gave him back his voice.
Deux jours, une nuit (2014)
Rising Above Her Circumstances
Rising above her circumstances Marion Cotillard's role as Sandra is set in the everyday mundane world of her neighbors and workplace. The highs and lows of confronting her co workers is a journey which contains a depth of dynamics not immediately obvious in the first five minutes. However, this belies the character depth revealed through this arduous process where humility leads to greater things.
Lone Survivor (2013)
This must be a mandatory piece to study at all schools around the globe
"Brotherly Love" is a phrase that carries weight. This is more than a film it is a Memorial to honor our brothers' who fought and died for us to keep the peace and freedom which we take for granted. Warfare is something everyone wants to avoid but the realities are that sometimes the theoretical strategic preparations of our soldiers must be played out in real life terms of experience.
Mojave (2015)
Shakespearian Tragedy of the 99 percent
A thriller that skirts some of the issues of Hamlet. Surprise after surprise builds and mounts preparing the audience for the tension in the story line which then gives rise to an ending which one might not expect. Character traits unfold and are put to the test as the two main characters repeatedly negotiate on levels which never meet but always spark the audience's interest.
Charlie St. Cloud (2010)
One account of how a Saint was made
St Cloud in the title of the film peaks your interest before you watch it. Little do you suspect that it would be such a poignant account of how a Saint might actually begin his journey into Sainthood. On so many levels Sainthood doesn't just take one form and it isn't exactly what you would expect...
Orphan Black (2013)
captivating
Orphan Black a futuristic science fiction genre is well written, powerfully acted and directed. The individuality of the clones and both their real life sacrifices and challenges punctuate the complexity of humanity which itself is our Champion. Ethical issues and bonds of relationships and culture arise to ask the viewer to choose. But the choice itself isn't clear cut.
Au-delà des murs (2016)
A mystery wrapped up in an enigma
Beyond the Walls a French serial film is a mystery wrapped up in an enigma of epic proportions. The story line unfolds for the main characters, Lisa, Julian and Sophie in ways that seem to teeter on the edge of horror making it a thriller. To reveal bonds in relationships which interconnect and satisfies the yearnings of the soul. Restoring faith in humanity.
The Nice Guys (2016)
Brilliant dark comedy with rays of sunshine
A dark comedy about adult daughter and parent relationships. Kim Bassinger's character is powerful as the Head of the Justice Department. However her daughter subverts Kim's power by activist Protest. While Ryan Gossling's prepubescent daughter is the wisest oldest soul in the film.
The comic timing of Ryan Gossling and Russel Crow further the storyline's Shakespearean flow and depth. Universal skeletons in a domestic contextual closet get a good airing with the fast pace of a string of conflict situations which are lifelike negotiations.
The Birth of a Nation (2016)
Excellent historically documentary accurate and informative
Social Esteem is an important human right. Parallels with the Chant of Jimmy Blacksmith come to mind with the brutal rebellion of Nat Turner and the men who accompanied him. The Klu Klux Klan began as a backlash but in reality the conditions of slavery prior to Nat Turner's righteous uprising were easily comparable. They were difficult and dark days that overwhelmed and overcame Nat's owner who in the end proved to be no better than his neighbors. Manipulation of soul and body for the profit of power and domination must come to an end sometime. A Christian burial and due respect to the remnants of the rebels remains seems a fitting beginning to give this important historical event the social esteem it demands.
Indignation (2016)
A necessary study for today's student of multiculturalism.
Social Sanction is a reality in our postmodern multicultural context. Daily people are asked to assimilate and in their best interest it would be easier for everyone if they found a way to do that without being compromised. Asking someone to assimilate should never be this brash a process and people need to be able to find their maturity without being patronized to the point of hospitalization. A comment was made in the behind the scenes script, 'a life and death scene' and the film itself expounds that wonderfully. A point presented with sophistication and clarity, enjoyed it from the first moment to the last.
No Stranger Than Love (2015)
Characters are filled out making it a surprisingly useful movie.
Characters are filled out making No Stranger Thank Love a surprisingly useful movie. When faced with ethical decisions on love and romance poor choices can lead people in real life to fall into a 'hole' which all of us are familiar with. As often casualties of love do need a lifeline to crawl out of their hole. During this process Colin Hanks is Suspended in a black inter-dimensional hole one of the main characters said, without any distractions I have a new sense of clarity. You may think to yourself this is a corny story line but don't dismiss it too quickly. When Colin's character, Coach Clint Coburn is faced with multiple consequences that would impact his world he is forced to admit his love for his wife. What are your thoughts on sensory deprivation leading to a new sense of clarity?
Backtrack (2015)
Effortless excellence from a hardworking brilliant crew.
A thriller quite different from Sixth Sense. Backtrack develops the conceptual plot that was initially introduced. Comparing the two films enables to audience to consider the genre and alerts them to the further establishment of the genre. Suspense and mysteries unfold establishing divine justice paralleled to that of Peter, the main character. He is the vehicle through which the story is told, values are expounded and his character revealed when he is forced to make split second judgments. Living in a small world of significant relationships he learns to consider his future in terms of eternity. Giving the audience one possible framework.
Rise (2016)
Surprisingly it is a Christian movie for your unsaved friend
From the first few moments of the movie, Rise the Protagonist Will is portrayed as a likable, fun-loving, responsible character who cares for others. Vices cause him to seek pleasure in a morally compromising situation which condemns him. Selfishness imprisons him until he is released through the petitions of those that love him. A technicality is exposed and his journey impacts many others. A lesson in integrity, mateship and the value of Christian principles. Watch it to witness lessons that Will learns the examples of effective ministering. The soundtrack and images of self reflection, confrontation and growth are powerful. Midshots, headshots, longshots establish moments of personal struggle and relationships in crisis. Props such as motos, bibles, and pictures help to define and focus the audience onto the Christian Principles and values expounded by Rise.
