STUNTS?
26 February 2024
You have Tom Cruise stunts and then you have Gal Gadot ....um...stunts? Green screen...CGI...um... not only does the action look super-fake, it's super unbelievable. Fifteen minutes in and I'm ready to leave. Poor writing, poor acting, poor directing, poor stunts.... just plain poor all around. There are allegedly thousands of scripts in Hollywood that will never be read. Maybe Netflix should dig a little deeper before investing in movies like this. It takes more than a pretty face to make a great movie. It all starts with good writing. It seems the amateurs are getting all the breaks while the greatest writers are just getting by.

How on earth did this get made?
18 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Sporadic moments of somewhat decent writing don't cancel out all of the absolutely poor writing and acting. Two men get into the vault and that's a long moment for some kind of father-son moment? One would think a heist should be done expeditiously and efficiently. Such is obviously not the case here. There was so much potential. No buildup of the characters, no back story - just here it is. This is a real let-down and I won't be watching anymore episodes. So, they're stealing 2 billion in Euros and they're carrying this out in a bunch of duffle bags. Do the writers have any idea of how much physical space 2 billion Euros occupies? Apparently not.

Gets worse with each episode
20 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Despite the negative reviews I watched and somewhat enjoyed the first season. What many reviewers have referred to as 'plot holes' are merely screw-ups. At the end of episode 6 (season two) a kid is standing in line to get on a bus and a cop shoots him point blank. Of all the other people standing there, no one screams. The cop isn't the least bit worried that he'll be identified. Beginning of episode 7, the kid somehow makes it across the city to the apartment of a woman. He's got a bullet in the shoulder. WOW... that cop is a bad shot.

The show gets points for being convoluted enough to hold one's interest and certainly Bryan Cranston carries the show. But overall, the writing gets very thin at times. I have to wonder how no one from the writers to the actors, to the director didn't catch these screw-ups.

A Waste of Time
19 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A cheesy 'buddy film' that disappoints. If that's what you're looking for; you found it. Anything for a laugh. Unrealistic set-up, unrealistic writing and I'm surprised it wasn't just two hours of hits to the groin. And get this, in the end, the two 'heroes' walk off and one shoots the other in the leg - very near the femoral artery and yet they just walk away - they don't take a car left by one of the many men they killed, nope...they just walk away because that's supposed to be funny. SUCH disappointing writing all around. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time on this one. Bad all around.

Terribly Disappointing
19 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The only reason I give two stars is that the acting of the three main characters was very good - not stellar, but good. This movie suffers from POOR WRITING. I see some reviews referring to this as good 'story telling' - no. Good stories have beginnings, middles and ends. To add to that, we have a 300+ pound man slamming a 20+ pound rock onto a man's head - that man would be DEAD. After this scene I lost all interest, but watched until the end because Peter Mullen gave a star performance. I see poor writing in so many films of the last ten years. They have a solid premise, but then fail horribly. This movie is not all that different from "A Simple Plan" where the average people run into money (gold) that isn't theirs and the bad guys come back. Too bad this one didn't have an ending.

FINALLY, FINALLY, FINALLY!!!
19 February 2023
I've been watching a number of movies on Netflix with great disappointment. This was not the case with "Against the Ice." The film is so well done - well-written and directed. I was engaged from the very start and to think that this is based on true events is incredible. I would highly recommend it to anyone who truly wants to watch a great film. I will probably watch it again in the near future. Personally, I can't stand some people for more than a day (and I'm sure the feeling is mutual). To think that they endured each other's company for close to three years is amazing. It amazes me that some of the best movies we never seem to hear about.

Like crap in a bucket....only worse
17 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Unbelievable. Either the writer bribed someone or extortion was involved. Ten minutes in you can see that the entire setup is totally unbelievable. Someone chained in a bunker for 30 years would be mentally insane - not babbling about the steak and key lime pie he wants. SO bogus. This guy in the bunker would stink to high heaven and be blinded by any light. I don't know how producers look at a script like this and think it's going to make money. This thing is a pathetic joke and a waste of time. Poor Simon Pegg - is he really so desperate that he has to do a turd movie like this? Can't finish watching.

I lost 2 hours of my life
8 November 2022
Some of the poorest writing I've ever encountered. The budget for this dumpster was fourteen million. It grossed about $1.5M. If that isn't testimony to the crappiness of this movie I don't know what is. Too bad the writer can't be fined or imprisoned for cursing the world with this pathetic piece of sh*". There are so many good writers with good scripts who can't get noticed and this guy sells this? Whenever I see the genre "dark comedy" I will just ignore it. I think there should be warning labels on films like this to let people know they shouldn't expect anything good from it. I will certainly tell everyone I meet about this.

The sign of a really bad movie
7 November 2022
The sign of a really bad movie is when you've watched it right down to the last ten minutes before you realize you saw it before and didn't like it then either. Some good action and well-choreographed fighting. Other than that, quite formulaic and on the nose. Sean Penn is a great actor - one of my favorites, but one or two good actors can't carry a bad film. I hope I don't watch it five years from now and realize I've seen it twice. Good music, good locations, just way too predictable. There are certainly worse films out there. Liked the Alpha Romeo, but it's a bit unrealistic that it would start after sitting in a shed. Did I reach 600 characters yet?

A Race to the Bottom
25 September 2022
Mike Meyers has once again attempted to show the world that his humor is vulgar and tasteless. Like a potty-mouthed little boy he always leans to the extreme. Because you can, doesn't mean you should. I'm not a prude by any means, but the best humor is clean - at least a whole lot cleaner than Meyers believes. We don't need to be made to feel uncomfortable watching something with family. I wasn't terribly impressed with his Austin Powers movies as well. Like many of the Fox animated shows, they're really not for kids. Children are impressionable and carry along what they see in these films. It often takes maturity to realize that this vulgar humor is without class.

When you watch the first 20 minutes you're hooked. There is enough going on to keep you in suspense - guessing and wondering. THAT is how you write a pilot. Excellent and deserves all the credit and accolades it has received.

The sign of a really really bad movie is when your 1/2 into it before you realize you've watched it a couple of years ago and didn't like it then either.

Let me retrieve your deposit
11 July 2022
Hello Mr and Mrs Smith. You'd like to retrieve your billions of dollars in hold from our underground vault???

Sorry, we booby trapped the vault and now no one can get at it.

You don't booby-trap a 100 foot deep treasure without being able to retrieve it. The treasure was there, it was vast...huge, but it was moved. THEN it was booby-trapped to kill the people who knew it was there and tried to steal it.

Nine seasons? I would love to believe, but after all of the logical attempts (the pit, the swamp, etc) the only way the treasure is still on the island is if it's in a tunnel they still haven't found.

If a zero rating were possible.
10 July 2022
For the sake of rating, let's say I've watched 10,000 movies in my life; Thor Dumb & Dumber would be the worst. Nothing worse than a writer who thinks they're funny. So many little cutesy comments that they obviously thought were funny in Ragnarok that they had to throw in dozens and dozens more. Quite pathetic.

I grew up with Marvel Comics. This trash ruined a perfectly good franchise.

Oak Island ...but in Alaska
5 July 2022
I thought this show was going to go somewhere. I am so naive. I jumped to the last episode and lo and behold...no treasure. Like the Oak Island Mystery, does anyone consider that of all the pirates on Dorks head's pirate ship, a few of these guys came back and dug up all the cans of hold with the exception of a few? Also, army/navy barracks - no basements, could they have poured slabs of concrete over dozens of these cans? Paved roads, etc. I'll wait a few years and watch the last episode. Again, like Oak Island, they find a zippo lighter..,wow....big find. I can probably find more treasure in my back yard.

Desperate for something good to watch. Always liked Sean Bean. This is a really well-written show. Not too heavy on the violence and not too heavy on the swearing. Looking forward to seeing the next season.

I'm pretending they're English living in France
16 May 2022
So, in the first episode I thought Roger Allam's character was an Englishman living in France, but I think the characters are all supposed to be French. Well, you know the French would never allow that! I find some of the actors very weak - others very good. The writing is a bit weak at times and there are many lines that are over-the-top pretentious. Okay, Roger Allam's character comes from a super-wealthy family. We get it. BUT Roger comes across as a very common man (I'm thinking Endeavor as well). Oh well, it's complex enough for a mystery and that works.

Five Minutes In

It doesn't take long to identify a poor movie. Jim's hauling bailed hay out to cattle that are grazing on dry grass. Hmmm.... maybe Jim's not such a good rancher. Typical Liam Neesom movie - different setting.

The reason you've never heard of this movie
23 April 2022
This is about as SH** POOR of a movie you could ever imagine. You keep hoping it'll improve, but it's all so predictable. The Southern accents...like Cajon? Sometimes they even disappear! I don't think any of these A-list actors really gave a crap about making this movie. Just give me my paycheck and I'll move along to the next.

Oh yeah, and Brendan Frasier's finest performance ever....ha ha ha.

Don't bother
22 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The attempted humor is so immature and moronic that only an idiot would crack up. Poor writing for good actors. Ten minutes in the protagonist rents a movie. He buys a dog from a girl on the street. We find out later that the book is about 'your new dog.'. Kind of out of order - right. Has a nightmare and shoots his dog. I suppose that's funny? No....a totally sucky movie.

Boring and Stupid

Maybe directors should stick to directing and writers should stick to writing. Bad acting. Long drawn out scenes that make no sense and add no value. I'm truly sorry I watched this.

Boring, boring and more boring
10 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't find this to be very engaging. Let me be clear on this; I'm really tired of gratuitous sex scenes. It's not as appealing as directors might think. It's uncomfortable and unnecessary. This movie needed better writing and a little um...I don't know... action. The long monotonous droning soundtrack was tiring.

It's almost painful to watch this show, but it's a show that is average at best. Everyone who visits Darlene gets killed. For all the bodies they have to bury, why not buy a backhoe? The show borders on absurd.

Half of the acting is tolerable. Half of the characters are pathetic. Half of the plots are ridiculous. There's barely enough to this show to hold my interest. Needs better writin and some better actors.
