Last Breath (2019)
YIKES!
This documentary was a frightening horror show for someone like me - that is; someone who is utterly terrified of the deep sea.
With that said, this documentary was so well put together, that as petrified as I was, I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. Even though on numerous occasions throughout the documentary I felt so much anxiety that I had to get out of my chair and walk around my living room, my eyes always remained glued to the screen.
Kudos to the filmmakers for such a compelling piece of storytelling. The editing was spot on. And kudos to the divers for doing this kind of insane work. I'm floored at how incredibly stressful the job is, and yet, at the same time, a level head is absolutely necessary and attention to detail is crucial.
Whoa. I'm glad I forced my scared self to watch this amazing story. It was well worth all the Xanax I needed.
Bridesmaids (2011)
Ladies, we CAN DO BETTER!
Saw this for the first (and only) time in 2023. How sad. Typical women competing against women movie with men cast as the saviors. Blah, blah, blah. Unfortunate that this was all the rage for a women's movie in 2011.
But, glad to know, post 2011, my sisters are progressing with movies like Barbie and Black Widow - where women empower each other and their lives aren't dependent on a man's approval. Not nearly enough movies out there since then, however, we are slowly moving the dial!
The cast should get together for an updated version - and let's get Greta involved this time ;) I have no doubt they can do better!

Eat the Rich
Capitalism at its finest.
God (aka the Almighty US Dollar) bless 'merica!
Profit over People, always.
It's the American way!
Can't wait to hear how the US Supreme Court rules on this case in 2024. I'm sure they won't disappoint ignorant US citizens and rule in favor of justice. Instead, they'll rule in favor of the wealthy, as they always have.
Oh, have pity for the poor misunderstood Sacklers! They were only using Capitalism the way it was meant to be used - for profit. It's not like the Sackler Family was taking advantage of a system of government that was rigged in their favor or something!
Eat the Rich.
Time is running out.
The Sea Beast (2022)
Forget Disney, THIS is where it's at!
Every minute of this movie is worth your time - from the heart pounding opening sequence to the very last frame.
The animation was absolutely astounding, the storyline was thought-provoking and compelling, and the characters were relatable. (The inclusion of different types of people, collectively working together with mutual respect in a united front, was another bonus) Both children and adults alike will be able to see a bit of themselves in an array of characters.
Although I do agree with other reviewers that the emotion of "empathy" was portrayed clearer in a memorable scene of "How to Train Your Dragon", I think overall this movie adds many more valuable lessons that HTTYD wasn't quite able to convey - all while being much, much more inclusive. (For the win!)
If there was ever an animated film worth a 10, this is it! Catch up, Disney, because the world is evolving - with or without you.
Recovery (2021)
Funny Stuff!
These two actresses had great comedic chemistry! Didn't realize until end of movie that they're real life childhood friends.
Lots of great one-liners, along with some crude humor (of mice and men;) made for an entertaining movie. Nice to see a female lead comedy written by the actresses themselves. Such a rare treat.
Bravo ladies!
Black Widow (2021)
Awesome Empowering Movie!
I don't usually write reviews, but this movie was so unique it absolutely warranted a review. All of the female characters (and there were plenty) were engaging. This movie needs to be seen. It passes the Bechdel Test with flying colors! Wake up, Hollywood.
At a time when female leads (whose characters aren't somehow attached to a male character) are ridiculously rare, this movie delivers. Full Stop! It pushes the boundaries of your typical action "blockbuster" like no other movie. It's a movie that will empower women and girls alike. Hollywood should be showing more of this; Hero's DO come in all genders. It's high time to start reflecting that - like this movie does.
