De Familie Claus 3 (2022)
Skip this one
If you enjoyed the first two of these films, pass this one by. The plot was strained...ridiculous at times, and the two Claus kids were annoying for most of the movie. The elves were more annoying this go round also. For a Christmas movie they seemed to concentrate on that too little. The whole part in Mexico is beyond contrived. Partway through I just wanted it to be over, but I rarely stop watching before the end, hoping it will/can redeem itself. Of course they tied it up and made it all work out by the conclusion. Most Christmas movies I can watch over and over. Sure this won't get a second viewing.
White Noise (2022)
One of the worst things I have ever watched
Over two hours of my life that I'll never get back. Holy crap this was terrible. I kept watching, hoping at some point there would be an aha moment that would explain it all and be somewhat redeeming. It never comes. The credits rolled and all hope was dashed that I had chosen this. Netflix, who gave the go ahead for this? You cancel series that we like or at least able to follow and enjoy, and instead give us this rubbish?
As others have written it is all over the place, but seemed to come from no where nor go anywhere. I know we all have different tastes but I wish someone could classify this one in such a way that I never watch another in that classification.
Heartstopper (2022)
Heartwarming
Nearing 70, I found this a wonderful and sweet series. Needless to say, in my youth and through most of my life there were NO stories like this at all. Then there was a whole period of tragic gay stories. I love how upbeat so many things are resolved here.
I think it may be on Netflix I saw a heading that said Inclusion Matters, and I wholeheartedly agree. This series touches on so many issues and you come away with such a positive feeling. I have watched it several times already and I am very hopeful Netflix will continue this series.
Dark (2017)
The best, ever
I have never been so captivated by any series like this before. At times it totally made our heads swim, trying to understand and follow it. With each new season we would rewatch the previous, to find details we might have missed and to get our heads ready to be engaged in the new episodes. I can't say enough good things about this drama from Germany. Well done.
Pushing Daisies (2007)
Awesome show canceled way too soon
Short sighted TV execs killed this great show. Unique storylines couldn't last against the bland and same old same old they are always foisting upon their viewers. I was so happy to find reruns of this on HBO the other night. Reminded me how much I loved it and how ticked off I was when they canceled it. The big three networks throttled themselves by sticking to formulaic crap.
Watch this, wherever you can find it.
Eli Stone (2008)
Really liked this show
There were few unique shows on the networks then. This was different, funny, heartwarming, contrasting greed and altruism. It was one of the last straws, when it was cancelled. Unique shows didn't last (another was Pushing Daisies). I gave up on the networks soon thereafter. TBH I don't know what they are offering now. I cut the cord and am happy finding series that are different and where you can't see the plots evolving ten minutes before they do.
Now, Voyager (1942)
One of my favorites of all time.
It may be dated now, and some of the plot devices would no longer work with all our modern technology, but if you came from an era before all that then watch this film. I watch this when I want to add a touch of hope to my day, when obstacles seem to be in the path forward. Bette Davis is so good in this film and she can convey so much with a glance and body language.
The Dressmaker (2015)
Chic delivery of village-wide karma
Loved this film. I have watched it several times. I find I often enjoy Australian films. They have their own charm and idiosyncrasies, but still appealing to those of us raised on Hollywood. There are plot twists and surprises; laughs and places you'll want to cry. Beauty, beefcake, and a few bravura performances.
Beauty and the Beast (2017)
Quite Enjoyed This; Both Times I've Watched It So Far
Reading these reviews taught me to refine the sort; the ones I read first were awful and I wondered if I had watched the same film.
First: it is a fairy tale, made to teach children (and hopefully some hating adults) some life lessons. Be happy, enjoy what is good, prize reading and education, don't let the opinions of others influence or diminish your dreams. Also, find someone of good character, rather than just a pretty face.
If you can watch this and come away a hater I don't know what, if anything, pleases you. Try harder to be happy. If you can't, maybe you could not let your anger and prejudices try to stand in the way of other's enjoyment.
Call the Midwife: Episode #6.1 (2017)
I used to love this series
The Season 6 Christmas Special was wonderful. To then be presented with a character so rigid and unfeeling as Sister Ursula I just don't understand. I have watched all the other episodes several times, but I can't even seem to watch five minutes of the series now with this disturbing presence. Whose brilliant idea was it to add a character that disillusions the viewers and makes them stop watching?
