That Mouth!!!
6 February 2023
I've never been a big Kyra Sedgwick fan so I ignored this series when it first aired. But as I was eliminating everything on HBOMax I cared about watching I decided to give it a try. It was fairly highly rated so I thought 'why not?' I tried diligently to make it through all seven seasons but I finally gave up in the middle of season two. A lot of reviewers have commented on her 'horrible' accent. I didn't really mind it that much although it was grating at times. No, what I couldn't bear any longer was her hideously ugly mouth. She really is an ugly woman because that mouth. Uggghhhh!

That and the fact that there was little character development of the costars.

And the episodes were too short and rushed to a quick deduction and conclusion.

Good riddance, megamouth!

Sucking Life From the Soul
13 January 2023
Many reviewers say this isn't horror. Maybe not by conventional standards but horror it is. The most frightening horror of real life. The horror of religious self-righteous hypocrisy.

For me this series encapsulated the appalling ignorance and pride of the religious class. I believe in Jesus Christ and despise any trace or whiff of religious practice or appearance.

Midnight Mass portrayed how religion is vampiric. Religion seeks to control and destroy our souls.

It was perfect in this regard and the monologues didn't bore me at all but demonstrated the self-perceived intellectual superiority of theologians and the self-righteous 'holy ones' who spout religious garbage.

Midnight Mass is perfect in demonstrating the evil and vampirism of religion.

Things to do...

Warning: Spoilers
...while you're traveling through space?

Yep. I actually suffered through the whole slogging thing. Alllllllllll eeeeiiiiiggghhhttt episodes. It was very pretty to look at and I don't get other reviewer's gripes that the cinematography was too dark. It's a dark story. Duh! I love dark.

But dark or not it left me cold. I don't mind the various other quibbles by some reviewers. I do mind the imcomprehensibility of it all. I'm not one who must have everything spelled out but I must have something that clues me in at least a little bit to what's going on.

Nothing whatsover is explained. It's just bizarre plot (?) devices mixed at random and bizarre, but good, special effects. 'Look at our neat effects and cool gadgets!'

The main thing I was thinking through the whole mess was that's what Nicole Kidman would look like if her face could move. Hee-hee!

One star for acting. One star for prettiness. One star for not boring me to death.

I tried watching Dark a while back. Maybe one episode in and I quit because I was bored. I'm going to try again after this because of all the raving reviews. I'm probably too obtuse for it also.

Doc Martin: Departure (2013)

Please Don't Come Back....But I Know You Will
20 November 2022
She's leaving....again. Unfortunately she'll be back. I checked the current season cast list.

I haven't found a more loathsome and repellent female character in all of British TV since Dr. Scorned Foster, the worst of all.

Why do women deal with, much less marry, men who they know well and are dissatisfied with? Has there ever been anyone who changes their fundamental nature and character at the whims, requests, needling or cajoling of another. Why? Why? Why can't women accept this?

You take what you know and either live with it or leave it. You don't keep coming back expecting something different. And whining, whinging and cloying won't mold someone into your ideal man. Has never happened. Never will. But some women never learn that and it is exasperating and mind-numbing watching one try to. And then can't figure out why.

I'm leaving this show for now. Maybe I'll pick it back up when I'm ready for some perverse entertainment again.

After all I did watch all ten episodes of Dr. Scorned Foster. Uggggghhh.

Doc Martin: Don't Let Go (2011)

The b*tching continues.....
19 November 2022
Nothing Martin does has pleased the biotching Louisa since this series started. She knew he was this way early on but continues to cluelessly think she can changing him by her continuous cloying. I was hoping she wasn't going to come back from wherever she went. Can't remember where. But no. She had to come back and continue torturing Martin and everyone around her.

Does this continue for the rest of the seasons? She's almost as annoying as super biotch scorned Dr. Foster. Wish she would go somewhere and die. *sigh* Penhale continues his depressing daftness to the point of complete disfunctionality. I don't know how he manages to even get out of bed in the morning and dress himself.

Need more chess from the Aunt Ruth and Al.

World's Funniest Man
14 November 2022
First off, I'm a believer in Jesus Christ. He is God. And I don't believe anyone is really an 'atheist'. They just don't like the idea of God and deny he exists.

Having said that, I find Ricky Gervais to be the funniest man in the world. No, I don't care for the explicit humor but it's still funny. Everything he says and does is funny. No one else makes me laugh or smile like he does.

Nothing, no subject is safe from his scathing humor. He's like Dave Chappelle in that respect, another comedian who is almost as funny.

I don't understand other reviewers who complained about seasons 2 and 3. I thought they were just as humorous as season 1 if not more so. There was more character development and situations as the seasons progressed.

Some reviewers doubted he would make so many videos of his wife or that the older lady would be at the cemetery as often or as long as she was. Maybe the reviewers wouldn't behave that way but it's perfectly believable that some people would. For example, I can easily believe the woman would keep doing it. She had been doing it since her husband died. Why would she stop? And with the added reason she had made a new friend in Tony it is even more believable.

Also I didn't see a single superfluous character. Even the psychiatrist who one reviewer complained about about.

Other than the explicit language, which I simply accepted and overlooked, I didn't find a single flaw or complaint with the entire series. I just wish there were more seasons. I can't get enough of Ricky Gervais.

Gore is OK, Bore is NOT
6 November 2022
So. I've made it to Season One, E.8.

I love Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant. Most movies and TV shows I've seen them in are great or at least watchable or entertaining. And I very much wanted to love this. I expected to.

But so far I haven't laughed or even cracked a smile watching this unfunny mess.

The theme, the plot and the gore doesn't bother me. It's just not done in an interesting or funny way. The daughter is obnoxious and not funny at all. Nor her geeky sidekick.

I liked Martyrs (the original only), Walking Dead (until Andrew Lincoln left), Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (excellent!) and some funny zombie movies. This is not a funny show and I doubt I'll finish it. Starting with about episode four I was checking IMDB for movies and shows I might be interested in while letting SCD play in the background.

I love black comedies but this just isn't one. So disappointed.

Ocean's 9

So. It was a good ride. I liked the fluff. Not knocking it for being good fun. Is it a setup for O9 and O10? Does it end with O10? Or will there be O1 and 014?
