Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)
The Best Film in the Monsterverse!!!
The writers clearly did their research and were well aware of how much of a mismatch this fight truly was to begin with. They knew that no matter HOW MUCH of a growth sprout Kong was going to get, he will NEVER truly beat Godzilla. It's just facts. I love Kong but Godzilla has already shown feats WAY beyond Kong ever did so it was obvious from the very beginning that Godzilla was going to win. However, I was still worried the writers were going to go the "underdog pity" route and find a way to have Kong win the fight, so he can become King Kong, but thankfully the writers knew better.
As far as the fights go, however, it's still the best monster fights in the series. While Godzilla still wrecked Kong the most in this film, Kong was able to hold his own well enough. At the end of the day, though, Kong was the heart and soul of this movie. He may not be king yet, but he's a king in the making. For now, he is the Prince of the Monsters and the true heir to Godzilla's throne.
MechaGodzilla is also in this movie and the way Godzilla and Kong team up to take it down was so awesome.
The humans were still boring, as always, but the monster fights made up for it all. Like others have said, the visual effects in this movie are Oscar-worthy. Either way, I had a ton of fun with this film.
Willy's Wonderland (2021)
One Night at Willy's Wonderland
Okay, so as a massive Five Nights at Freddy's fan, I was really excited to see this movie. The icing on the cake was that Nicholas Cage was going to star in this movie. I saw the trailer and was definitely hype to see it.
The story follows an unnamed main protagonist (Nicholas Cage) who's car breaks down in a small town. Without any money to pay to get his car fixed, and unable to pay by card, he is forced to work in a restaurant for one night as the janitor, where he is to clean up the place. Unfortunately, it was actually a lie. He was sent in there to be a sacrifice as the animatronics in there are actually alive and they're bloodthirsty. Together, with a group of teens, they have to survive the night.
One major problem this movie suffers from is the characters. I found Nicholas Cage as silent throughout the whole movie to be weird, but it was still fun. However, the rest of the cast is either not very well acted, or they are just not likable enough. The reactions are just not at all what I expected. I was fine with the Janitor not being afraid of the animatronics, but the supporting characters, who were clearly there to be killed to show just how dangerous and terrifying the animatronics are, were just also so weak.
The movie feels a lot more like a comedy than a horror, but it does have a few scary moments here and there.
Overall, the CGI is pretty good and the practical effects are just wonderful. If you are a fan of Five Nights at Freddy's, you may actually enjoy this movie for what it is. If you're not, you may either like it or hate it. I thought it was good, and it definitely made me even more excited for the upcoming Blumhouse film, Five Nights at Freddy's.
Soul (2020)
Yet Another Classic for Pixar!
Watching the trailers, I was expecting this to be too childish for my taste but thankfully, the movie itself is so much better. With such a brilliant voice cast and unique premise, once again Pixar has managed to work their magic into their piece of art. While it IS still more comedy-driven compared to most other Pixar films, the emotional moments really do shine when they show up.
Sadako vs Kayako (2016)
A huge disappointment and not worth your time
So I finally got a chance to go and see this movie. I just want to say that I have always loved the Ring franchise, even the American version, and the Grudge franchise. I was so excited to hear that they were making a crossover 'versus' movie involving Kayako and Sadako. Unfortunately, this movie killed my hype and I have been very disappointed.
The plot is actually very simple and exactly what the title says. A young Japanese woman watches the tape of Sadako and has a few days left to live. In order to prevent herself from dying, she takes the tape to the house of Kayako's. On the day Sadako is released from the tape, the two vengeful spirits will face off.
In case you don't know who they both are, Sadako is from the Ring franchise. She is a cursed spirit who haunts a video tape and kills anybody who watches it in seven days, which is how long she was in the well and how long she survived for. Kayako is a deadly spirit who was in love with this guy and was murdered by her husband, who, in a fit of anger and sorrow, got her neck snapped and only allows her to growl. Her son also got killed by drowning by his own father for witnessing the murder and the two now haunt the house and kills whoever enters it.
My thoughts on the movie was that it was bad writing and the script was awful. I only give it two points for the great effects and 1 point for the crossover idea. My suggestion, watch it when you have absolutely nothing else better to do.
