Clouds (2020)
Moving and inspirational
I thought I was dead inside but this film is so moving it made me cry throughout. I cried more during this movie than I have ever cried and that includes my nan's funeral (God rest her soul). This film leaves you motivated to make the most of every moment you have in this life and very dehydrated.
Aladdin (2019)
Excellent remake!!!
The cast is incredible. The songs are amazing, especially the new one, it'll give you goosebumps. I like and agree with pretty much all the changes they made from the original. They gave characters some more back story and changed some mistakes from the original. The movie does have some Bollywood vibes as opposed to middle eastern but I can forgive that seeing as it's a made up kingdom and most Americans probably couldn't point out either places on a map.
I think most of the people complaining are just looking for something to complain about. If the movie makes any changes from the original then they complain that it's different but if they make a carbon copy then they'll complain that it's the exact same movie.
Will Smith did an incredible job as Genie, giving it his own twist while still paying respect to Robin Williams. It's unfair to compare him to Robin Williams because there'll never be anyone like Robin ever again, he gave probably the best ever animated performance as genie in the original and that's down to him basically just being himself in the role and doing a stand up type performance. I think Genie should be looked at like a role such as the joker, where each actor puts his own touch on a classic character. It would've been cheap and disrespectful to Robin Williams had Smith just copied his performance. Instead he basically played a version of himself and gave the genie a hip hop touch.
I liked Naomi Scott's Jasmine being more concerned with what's best for agrabah not just wanting to marry for love. Her voice is breathtaking, it'll leave you "speechless"... sorry.
I preferred this sultan not being a fool or comedic relief, he's a good leader who's just scared and protective of his daughter after what happened to his wife. The wife's assassination back story was a great addition.
I liked how it fixed some mistakes such as don't "take" anything from the cave rather than don't "touch" anything.
I also liked how they made it more grounded and realist, for a movie about a magic genie that is. The mountains of gold in the cave, talking animals and half naked protagonists wouldn't have translated well to live action, as much as I loved abu and Iago in the original and as much as I would've loved to have seen Naomi and Mena with half their kit off, I think the correct decisions were made.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Go into it with an open mindset and seperate it from the original and you'll be able to appreciate and love both.
Would love an original sequel, hopefully we get one soon!
Jojo Rabbit (2019)
Beautiful film and an emotional roller coaster
Really can't understand the controversy around this film. Went into it thinking it was just a comedy based on a sensitive topic but it's so much more than just satire. It's expertly written with an amazingly talented cast. It will make you laugh and cry. A must watch!
Alex Rider (2020)
Great adaptation!
This show does a great job of satisfying book fans high expectations while still being enjoyable to any viewers who haven't read the books. I had very high expectations after waiting 13 years and I was worried about how they would go about starting the series with the 2nd book, but I was extremely pleased with the results. Read the books as a pre/young teen but the show isn't childish and definitely enjoyable for mature audiences.
Only gripe is that some of the casting choices are very different than the books but the cast does a great job so I can overlook that.
