Opening line,
"Before the arrival of European colonists, sexual violence was virtually nonexistant on North American soil."
REALLY???
Please give me a break. "Sexual violence" has happened among every culture since the cave men.
I am sick and tired of anti white propaganda being brosdcast and accepted as truth And therefore DID NOT watch this movie beyond resding this line.
It is more realistic to say it was never reported and recorded for history before the European settlers came. (And then we taught others to read and write as well). The Native American people were perfectly adapted to the natural world that existed then. And we have much to learn from them, even today. But they had oral history and myths or cave drawings, not written history, which IS what European settlers brought to North America Would stories of sexual violence be a tale you would want to tell your children? Or draw on the wall? I think not.
But I have no doubt, HUMAN BEINGS being what they are, that sexual violence did exist in North America before the European settlers came.
I am concerned about the level of sexual violence in the world today, for everyone, but I will not sit back and watch white people blamed for it. It's not, and never has been, a "white people problem". It's everyone's problem.
Will not watch more false guilt producing lies and will never, ever watch this film.

As with most things Netflix, dark, seemy, worst of humanity subject which is way TOO VIOLENT!
Three simple storylines told over six episodes FILLED WITH SENSELESS VIOLENCE. The violence isn't used to tell or augment the story, it IS the story/stories.
These good teviews must be from paid influencers, because I cannot believe anybody liked this.
I should have known, though, because "American Primevil" for a title??? Is this show about dinosaurs? Um, dinosaurs and cowboys aren't exactly a logical combination. So, there's that.
If you want to see a good, epic western, which accurately depicts conflict in the old West, watch "The Son", or "1883", or "1928"...this is a TOTAL waste of time. Good thing this one wasn't well written and had little more than nonstop violence to keep you watching. Otherwise I might have to remember it.
Two hours after watching, this one is already half forgotten.
Do better, Netflix I just may cancel my membership over this one.
BAD!!!!!!

In response to the review posted here entitled, "i don't get why his wife is included in this series", please let me explain. She and their daughter (who you don't seem to like, either) are included to balance and support an otherwise completely stressed out, exhausted character who fights extreme battles and resolves extreme, life and death issues on a daily basis. Is she a totally likable character? Perhaps not. But she does love him. And their daughter loves him. And needs him very much at this time in her life. Through his interactions wth them (as quirky, unconventional and spoiled as they may seem) and his son, we get to see him be a loving father, husband and friend, as well as an accomplished Landman.
I don't understand why that reviewer gave the series 8 stars, yet spent the whole review complaining about the women, not ever saying what they liked about it. But to each his own I guess.
I can't think of a reason at this point not to give it ten. Although it was a little slow in the beginning it was a good story, told well.
Excellent cast, with Billy Bob Thorton in the lead, who, somehow, in spite of all the other western roles he has played, manages to make him a unique character, apart from the others. Although I was lead to this series via a search of movies with Jacob Loflin (The Son), I also enjoyed 1883 and 1929, also by Taylor Sheridan.(I must be the only person in the US who has not seen Yellowstone, yet.) Good series, great cast, good story, what's not to like?
I give it 10 *
