The Wild Wild West (1965)
Great Leads, Action, Adventure and the Unknown!
I was very young when this show initially aired so it was in repeats that I fell in love with THE WILD WILD WEST.
What hooked me? The first episode I watched, a 1st season episode with Dr. Loveless, where he had drugged James West and made him believe he had murdered Artemus Gordon! I was stunned by this episode - how bizarre yet sensitive it was - and I loved the lead actors, how they had depicted the characters friendship and, oh, that remarkable chemistry! When Artemus had enter West's room, when Jim saw his buddy was alive - the expression of amazement, joy and relief - it just shook me to the core. Wow.
Thank you Robert Conrad and Ross Martin. Thank you to everyone who had anything to do with this series, with us or not.
I'm looking so forward to these episodes coming out on DVD.
Counterstrike (2002)
Good Movie. GREAT Rachel Blakely
I actually enjoyed this movie much more than I thought I would. Action. Adventure. Romance. It's all there.
The two males leads are, indeed, handsome and have an interesting back story but it was Australian Rachel Blakely, playing the ship's British head of security, who really shined. She's not only a talented actress but she really lightens up the screen when she walks or rides into a scene. We really do need to see more of her in American television.
There are many familiar faces in this movie and it's fun to point them out to friends and loved ones.
Once again, I liked it.
Night Court (1984)
Super Chemistry!
The cast of this remarkable show, particularly a few years in when Roz and Christine move into the courtroom, was truly amazing. Upon reflection there were many future top guest actors which appeared as well: Michael J. Fox, Terri Hatcher, Fran Drescher, Michael Richardson, Brett Spiner etc.
Even now, the comedy is fresh even when a gag is pulled over and over again. The vomit gag abounds.
The "sex" dialog, proficiently spewed by one Dan Fielding, often makes us forget that he was originally penned as a rather straight laced character. Unscrupulous yes, but rather conservative too.
But what I think really gets swept under the carpet is the relationship between Harry Stone and Christine Sullivan. This was a couple that was meant to happen, almost DID happen more than once during the series, but an excuse was always made to keep them apart. Darn. I give credit to Harry Anderson and Markie Post. They had terrific chemistry that he and she never quite had with any of the other lead ladies-men characters in the show.
Favorite line: Harry - "If you've got 'em, smoke it."
