Bad Things (2023)
Pretty Bad
Not worth your time even though it´s less than 90 minutes of duration.
There is no actual plot in this film, it's just scene after scene with weird themes in the middle of them (by themes I mean schock value moments and cuestionable actions to keep the audience interested in the movie).
Not even a bad movie that it´s good, just terrible. The acting is mediocre at it´s best (incluiding the minimal Molly Ringwald scenes), the location was ok but very misused in the end, the writing is terrible because like I said: there is no structure to this film, and the ending just leaves no answers to be solved.
In the end if you want to watch a crappy movie just to kill some time then see this trash, if not don't waste your time nor subscribe to an exclusive platform that has this movie in their catalog.
1/10.
Bomb City (2017)
Not for me
This movie feels longer than it's actual running time (95 minutes), could've cut some scenes or just avoided the unnecesary slow motion efects. Besides of that i couldn't cope with any of the characters, none of them are likebable (I know it's based on a true story) nor portrayed good, the bad acting didn't help either.
The film captures all the classic indie genre clichés, doesn't add depth to the main character (wich is the centre of this story) and has no clear message or reflection in the end.
Even for a novice director the writing has to be better, it was way too predictive as the film itself. The editing was terrible, I get the film doesn't follow a conventional structure but at times feels rush and annoying when you're watching some actual plot and then switching to random stuff.
2/10.
Máncora (2008)
It was OK
Máncora is a beach in the north of Peru, the films that come out of that country usually operate in cities like Lima or Cuzco, which is why I was surprised by the location on the aforementioned coastal beach.
Although it is a simple and easy story to carry (the runnning time is not too heavy), the film does not comply with giving a clear message nor does it give a final purpose to its protagonists and history; great scenery and production value, the performances were good although the personalities as well as the dialogues of some characters become very clichéd and repetitive.
Peruvian cinema no longer usually surprises with the plots of its films, but Máncora was undoubtedly the exception. 4/10.
Open 24 Hours (2018)
Boring
I watched it purely for curiosity (the plot sounded decent for a horror movie night) but it let me down.
As the film goes by you either can stop it or do something else while attempting to go through it, it is that boring. Main plot goes really slow, there's no "action" until the middle of the film and from that on it's just a bad slasher with not only poor acting but decisions from the characters as well.
Avoid this and go watch a classic or just anything but this.
A Friend to Die For (1994)
Meh
Not a very good TV movie.
You can see the twist miles away, the movie makes it clear in the very beginning, after that you can tell it´s mostly a flashback scenes type of film.
It has decent acting overall, stellar Tori Spelling, but the lead lacks the conviction to portray the actions of her character.
LIke I said before: not a very good movie. Keeps you watching but in the end you'll forgot about this in less than an hour. Worth watching if you have nothing to do.
Piratas en el Callao (2005)
Bad
Even though it was at the time the first ever Peruvian computer animation movie it wasn't enjoyable even if you have low standards before watching it.
Being a simple story you only have to sit thru less than an hour and a half but feels like forever. There's no character development, even if the main characters are 12 years old, no movie structure at all because you get scenes that have no connection with the plot, terrible child-like writing, awful voice performances (specially the one from the dutch pirate if you watch it in Spanish) and let's not forget the terrible 3D animation of the film overall making it unpleasant to watch; all you get are basic frames with colorfulness and static backgrounds, weird body parts movement by the characters that hasn't aged well.
Don't waste your time with this peruvian cinema experiment because is not worth it.
