Spartacus: Blood and Sand (2010)
one word: CHEAP
What we got tonight was a poorly made attempt to bring "300" to the small screen. When I describe this movie as cheap it describes all levels, the sets, the CGI, the wardrobe, but worst of the all the actors and writers. The acting is forced with the actors unable to connect with their characters, with Viva Bianca at the top of the list. Viva's voice makes you wonder how she got an acting job in the first place, which can only be answered with her willingness to get naked. Her lack of acting skills is followed closely by her husband played by Craig Parker, who although playing a Roman Legion officer, seems about as menacing as the ant I stepped on this morning. More forced than the acting is the writing, which poorly attempts to cover up the amateur acting with nudity sex and blood. These things can usually keep me entertained, as with most men, for endless amounts of time. But in this show the sex is more of a tease than late night Cinemax, but with worse acting. When focusing on the Spartacus time frame there should not be one boring episode, especially not the first one! Lets hope the season can pick up as it goes along.
Devil May Cry: Debiru mei kurai (2007)
Disappointing
As a huge fan of the games I felt like I was reading a bad movie adaptation of a book. There is maybe only one moment during the entire series when you feel like Dante is in any kind of danger, and without that there is just very little excitement. Even in what are supposed to be his hardest battles he never seems to be in danger, which knowing his background from the games is what you'd expect, but didn't make for a very exciting show. There are also many key elements lacking from the game such as his Devil Trigger, and gaining and using new weapons. The only reason I gave this a 5 was because it captured Dantes character very well and also had some excellent animation elements to it. If they continue this series I would hope the writers would play the games through and try to match what they see there.
Terminator Salvation (2009)
What a disappointment
I have always been a huge terminator fan and always thought the future scenes were some great parts in the first and second of the series. So when I found out they were making one that was set during the war and that Christian Bale would be playing John Connor this became the movie that I was most looking forward to for the summer. The movie was going very well but went downhill every minute. There are numerous plot holes throughout the movie where the machines make terrible choices one after another for no reason other than to keep the movie going. This to me is just unimaginative writing. Skynet becomes like the Austin Powers character Dr. Evil, where instead of just destroying John Connor or Kyle Reese, it makes up an elaborate plot to kill them. I wish Skynet had a son like Dr. Evil who would just say "I have a gun in my room, let me go get it and we'll kill him right here". I think the cast did the best with what they were given but McG and the writers failed to deliver a great story, but instead just gave us some great special effects to try to overshadow the fact that the plot had more holes than swiss cheese. So in the small hopes that James Cameron might come across this message board PLEASE TAKE THIS SERIES OVER AGAIN, WE NEED YOU.
