Murder Mystery (2019)
Tedious
Admittedly, I'm not a fan of Aniston or Sandler, but I do like light comedy. Aniston is too old to act like a teenage party crasher, and Sandler seems low energy. Not being able to see his mouth move made me feel even more disconnected. If I was that desperate for company on my yacht, I would just dock near a bar and say "come on down!"
Tinker' (2017)
Some good acting, but disappointing ending.
Good performance by young Colton Crawford, Clayne Crawford and Clayne's mother Lennie Crawford, but Christian Kane is the best feature of the movie. Kind of plodding pace, and the Tesla machine built of twigs and crystals was hokey. Bringing in the supernatural and a glimpse of heaven is not in keeping with the serious work Tesla did. I wouldn't recommend it, but don't regret seeing it.
The fake 10 star reviews are from fans of Clayne Crawford, trying to support him and prove he should not have been fired from Lethal Weapon.
Lethal Weapon: In the Same Boat (2018)
Much improved
Seann William Scott was the right choice. The tone is much lighter and upbeat, more like the movie. Wayans and Scott have fantastic comic timing, and make a very likeable pair.
Crash (2004)
Boring after school special
I cannot see any redeeming qualities in this movie. The plot is implausible, the acting wooden and it has the feel of a poorly done mockumentary. Everyone has the sad, serious facial expression you usually see on non-actors who think that is how you "act." They seem to think they should be glum because this is really a serious story. But these are all first rate actors!
It seems like this production was very hastily done, perhaps as an anti- Brokeback Mountain in anticipation of the Motion Picture Academy getting cold feet about endorsing a gay movie. So a preachy, positive message alternative was thrown together with an ensemble cast of A-listers to snatch the prize.
I was bored silly, as were my friends, and I would rate this the worst waste of talent in motion picture history.
Something New (2006)
Dumbfoundingly dumb
I thought this movie would be a witty romance. None of the characters displayed any trace of a personality whatsoever. Even Simon Baker looked sullen and downtrodden. The brother, supposedly raised in an upper middle class culture, was so crude he refused a handshake from a landscape designer because he considered him "hired help." A highpoint was supposed to be a "cotillion" where young black couples marched around in identical white chiffon gowns and black formal wear in a kind of slow motion Busby Burkeley geometric pattern, all the time maintaining the same pi$$ed off expression that set the tone for the movie. Finally, as if to say "we still honor our heritage," the young men launched a choreographed frenzy of neck jerking, hopping and jumping for a welcome relief from the puffery pageantry.
The girl ran to get the guy, but I saw no chemistry. If I was to explain the relationship, she was simply miserable and he was just going along.
