Uncanny: Case 1: Miss Howard (2023)
This is NOT an investigation
According to the BBC website this programme is supposed to be an investigation, unfortunately it is anything but. Featuring a discussion between two experts, one a 'believer', the other a sceptic' makes this a panel debate, not an investigation. The credibility of the programme is further undermined by unnecessary theatricals, creepy reconstructions and a soundtrack that would be more appropriate in a horror movie. The final straw is provided at the end of the episode when Robins asks the viewers to send in their own theories. On the strength of this first episode, I will not be wasting any more of my time watching any further episodes.
Dark Encounter (2019)
Absolute rubbish
As of today this movie has grossed well under $5,000 (yes, five thousand) worldwide. That is a good indication that it was a total flop. Why? Because despite all the production values, and quite apart from the terrible acting the story makes no sense whatsoever and the twist at the end makes it even worse. I would say it is in fact an insult to anyone's intelligence. Now don't get me wrong, I can be partial to mindless entertainment too at times, but this one goes well beyond mindless. I recommend watching this only if you absolutely want to waste one and a half hours of your life.
Murder in the Outback (2020)
Poses questions worth thinking about
Despite the largely negative opinions (which I respect) expressed by other reviewers here, I do feel that the series provides some food for thought by re-examining the case and posing what to me appear to be some interesting and legitimate questions.
The programme undoubtedly may have an agenda, however it does appear to have something relevant to say which just happens to run counter to the 'official' version. Could there be a conspiracy at work here? I suggest you watch it and make up your own mind.
The Price of Progress (2019)
Poignant
This documentary shows how multinational corporations are constantly trying to influence our policy makers to authorise products and processes that are potentially dangerous to our health and the environment.
1983 (2018)
Overly complicated and boring
The storyline is overly complicated, and the constant flashbacks are just distracting. Progress is very slow, but it is visually stunning with nice choices of interesting locations. The few moments of action might just be enough to lift it above boredom, however the open ending ultimately makes this a rather disappointing watch.
