Trump vs the Illuminati (2020)
Love or Hate Trump, This Movie is Fun to Watch!
And this movie is silly, goofy, visually wonderful, and puts a whole new twist on all the "prophecies" that claim DJT is some kind of savior. I wonder if Trump watched it, would he even understand it's insulting him? No doubt he would believe all PR is good PR and imitation is sincere flattery. There will be no acting awards for this film. But there are moments you can pretend Trump wrote this movie about himself. If you like goofy and occasionally stunning space visuals, and the only thing you have to do is something you don't want to do, this movie is for you! Have NO expectations and you will be surprised. The addition of cannabis can only help.
Troy: Fall of a City (2018)
Food of the gods for a Greek myth lover!
This version of the story of Troy cannot be compared to Brad Pitts' version. Just throw that thought away if you hold it. Pitts' movie was a view of the story as if it had been a historical account. No myth, no gods. And Pitt was glorious as Achilles, no doubt. "Fall of the City" tells the story closer to the source material, gods, myths and all. This movie is very well written, very well acted, and the production values are amazing. It looks so good and authentic.
Every now and then, you see a really good ensemble cast, all of them, and one actor stands out, owns the screen when he enters the scene. For me, it was Julia Gardner in the show "Ozark". In "Fall of a City", it's David Gyasi, who played Achilles. Wow, was he strong in this role. He made Achilles so much more three dimensional. Gyasi held my attention locked in his fist. I imagine the role of Achilles is THE role of a lifetime for any actor, and I don't know how they could have found a better, more nuanced and still intense actor than Gyasi. He was the one to watch in this series. He made Achilles real, not just glorious. I wish the movie had had more of him. I'll be watching everything he does, but I have the feeling I'll always love him most in this role, he was so good. Gyasi will always be the reason I rewatch this series. If I were an actor, I'd never dream of following Brad Pitt into any role. Gyasi did it with such skill and talent. Don't know why Gyasi wasn't nominated for a dozen acting awards for this.
Applause to all the makers and cast of this movie. Bella Dayne was also very good, making Helen very tragic and well-intentioned on the road to hell. Johnny Harris as Agamemnon was ruthless and scary. Too many good performances to list them all, honestly. Enjoy, watcher. I hope you like it.
Dear Netflix. More Greek myths, please. This cast is very good. Use this actor playing Odysseus to do "The Odyssey". Use this actor playing Aeneas to show his adventures. More ancient god action, please! These are the OG superheroes.
Cunk on Earth (2022)
A lot of good laughs.
I don't know how Philomena got so many experts to waste their valuable time answering her moronic questions. But I love watching! I adore shows that make history fun. Ms. Cunk's story-telling of history will make you accidentally blow your drink from your nose. Loved the photography. Philomena's comments on religion should be seen by all.
No, Philomena, Jesus Christ was not the first celebrity victim of cancel culture. Pharaoh Akhenaten, Tut's father, was.
Review reader, definitely watch this show if you like history and dry British humor. Worth your time. I wish there were more episodes. Are you watching yet? Stop reading this! Watch "Cunk on Earth".
MH370: The Plane That Disappeared (2023)
I loved hearing all the details.
I hated hearing there were few confirmed answers.
If this incident interests you, you cannot miss this series. It's very good, mind-boggling and heart-breaking. It's a testimony to the human ability to build different stories from the same circumstances. Whatever had happened, if the oxygen masks dropped, the passengers had fifteen minutes of oxygen, the pilots even more time, and I cannot imagine why no one had texted anyone. The only thing that makes sense to me is an explosion. Even the passengers on the airplanes that hit the World Trade Center texted when hijackers took over. That these 239 people didn't text some word just wipes my brain clean.
I hope they find this airplane before I die. I'd really like to know the truth. My heart goes out to the families. What happened here shouldn't be a mystery.
Ozark (2017)
Don't miss this show.
There's no downside to this show. The acting is very, very good. The writing is GREAT and mostly unpredictable. The things you do see coming, you know you don't want to see it. <-- The best way to see plot twists coming. Production values are high. Jason Bateman and Laura Linney are just great. I'm sad I'm reaching the end of the show.
But, IMO, the best reason to watch this show is Julia Garner as Ruth. This actor in this role should be lining her living room with Emmys. Ruth is the most angry, foul-mouthed, depressed and aggressive character I have ever fallen in love with (sort of). Garner takes it home. She's the powerhouse, the scene-stealer. I cannot say much more. I will watch everything she's in because of Ozark. What are you waiting for? Watch this show now. Why are you still reading this? You know what you must do.
Legion (2017)
I wanted so much to like this show....
But the show wouldn't let me. It's taken me six tries and I've only gotten through three episodes. Absolutely nothing has happened but David escaped from an insane asylum and is having nightmares. <-- The summary for the first three episodes. How can any writer stretch that into three episodes is no display of talent. I feel like watching one more episode is only a little better than an amputation. And I see others saying the second season is worse? Gawd, no thanks. I didn't think anyone could ruin a teleporting telekinetic-telepath, but boy was I wrong. It's not the cast's fault. They are good and that's where my three stars came from. It is garbage writing. Garbage, garbage writing. No wonder it was quickly canceled. I sure hope you like it better. I feel like my face has been slapped.
