In the Shadow of the Moon (2019)
Really nasty piece of film
This film is based on the assumption that one can legitimately be killed solely based on their ideas, and you have to suffer through about 90 minutes of clichés and plot holes to get this pushed in your face. A low-down, nasty film.
Brightburn (2019)
An okay film
While the concept is brilliant, the execution is quite poor. The effects are the only other good thing about this movie, especially considering the low budget.
But the acting is horrible (except for the kid), and emotional scenes are almost laughable, both due to the terrible script. There is no suspense and there are no scares, only some gore, which is not enough to make the experience memorable.
And the worst is the pacing. Sometimes we follow a character discovering a dark place for a long time, then days pass by in seconds - this is another reason why the emotional content is silly. Simply there is no time for the characters and relationships to evolve meaningfully. The one scene which could have been soooo epic and dramatic between father and son only makes you scratch your head in disbelief.
The film feels like an unfinished story, and a missed opportunity. Could have been waaaay better.
Escape Room (2019)
Unoriginality level 100, stupidity level 1000
This "film" is just awful. It is a mashup of semi-clever films, whose titles I don't want to give lest I spoil your experience, mwahaha - but they are obvious. Unfortunately this "movie" only takes the stupid bits into the mix.
There are no plot twists you couldn't anticipate from an hour ahead. There are no relatable characters; all of them are pancake flat stereotypes with backstories falling off of them. The ending is mind-bogglingly dumb. So freaking dumb, you'll want to gnaw off the armrest.
The visuals are unimpressive, unbelievable and feel cheap. They are also inconsistent to the point of looking like an avantgarde collage made by a dadaist on crack. The pointless set elements are too many to count, even and especially outside the maze.
This is 100 mins of your life you'll never get back.
Scare Campaign (2016)
Pretentious and predictable
Contrary to most reviews here, if you have seen more than a dozen horror films, no later than the 15th minute in will you be able to smell the stench of all the forthcoming twists of this poorly executed, smug, superficial, obvious flick. Not to mention the overused topic of media violence and the blurring of what's real and what's not. At the end I simply could not believe that the supposed "twists" were all this film got. Abysmal, cynical tripe.
