Reloaded 2 (2024)
Very good
It's always a good sign when we have a 45 minute feature film but 5 minutes of it is opening credits and 10 minutes of it are the slowest ending credits rolling across a screen I've ever seen. Yes, it's another crime thriller by George Tounas. As usual in most low budget movies sound here is an issue and fails to capture what most people are saying in the film. The action here is very minimal so don't expect anything action packed here. It's mostly dialogue driven with very little to show. Not sure where the Indiegogo money went into the making of this film. Probably on the 4K cameras or something. Loved it though.
Possum (2018)
Matthew Holness is a great filmmaker
I really felt in shock when the credits rolled. There are so many disturbing image here. Metaphors and allegories that at first appear to be just that, a tool for the narration, but no, they aren't. I fooled myself thinking i'd just be that. Really dark and powerful in every way possible. I never thought that a movie about a pet giant-ish spider would impact me so much. And hey, if you're thinking that this puppet monster thing only appears in a few scenes, well, i've got some good news for you . . . Or bad if you're arachnophobic. Matthew Holness is great as a director and should make more movies.
Midnight Devils (2019)
Despite the audio issues. Not a bad horror.
This was such a good horror indie movie. Packed with suspense, action and corrupt characters. How could you not like it? Abel Berry and Jennifer Stone from Stoneberry Films made a good witch/wendigo movie. The real problem with Midnight Devils was its audio issues, they simply make the film impossible to become immersed in. The best example of this comes from the accidental death of a hostage. Our large enforcer accidentally switches on a leaf trimmer (off camera), which is fine, except an audio que would have saved the audience from asking, "What the hell just happened". Although that confusion was probably intended, just not thought through.
Shortwave (2016)
Average watch at best
Always feels more interested in the visual experience, rendering the storytelling somewhat flat, even when it touches on unbearably devastating events. There doesn't seem to be anything under the over-serious surface.
Maximus (2021)
What was a watch and a half!
Absolutely fantastic! I am lost for words! This was such an excellent movie, from start to finish! Prendergast is a very talented director and well done to Earl Ling.
HotHed (2020)
Terrific film
Great camerawork and chemistry between the cast. This film is going to go well in film festivals!
Monster (2018)
Not a bad watch
Unsettling and bittersweet at times, Monster created a dismantled project that errors the hell out of our comfort zones.
Set Me Free: Vol. II (2016)
Makes you feel grateful to be alive.
I know one thing, I will never, ever forget this heartrending, unbelievably-acted 'movie' for the rest of my days. I'm just at a loss for words and struggling to describe how truly powerful and heart-grabbing this story was. I'll go so far as to say that if you don't cry, shed a tear, or feel the urge to weep profusely after (or while) watching this film, you don't have a heart. The main character (Nina Taylor) and the mother (Ann-Marie Doggett) steal the entire film/s. The beauty of Set Me Free is in its bare rawness, realness and universally relatable nature. What can I say? It tapped into something deep, deep, deep within me and just ripped my heart to shreds and had me in tears; sometimes tears of sadness, and other times tears of heavenly joy. It made me smile at times and even laugh. But most of all, it always had my eyes glued to the screen and my soul enthralled by what I was witnessing. This is one of the best, truly real stories ever told and one of the best uses of cinema I've ever seen. ...Try not to read much/anything about it before going in to see it (and yes, definitely catch it in a theatre near you ASAP). Go in and be engrossed and moved (in ways I can't describe) by this experience. 10/10 *Hands down* the best film of 2016, and the single best thing I've seen in years. :')
