stunning

A great idea to split the story of this career woman who is desperate for a child, into 3 psychological stages and have those 3 played by three actresses. This brings me closer to the theme. And reminds me of films from Bunuel and Todd Solondz. A warm, somewhat melancholy film. The lovely tunes of composer David van der Heijden are stunningly beautiful. Watch it, great, cinematic and modern film

funny

This movie funny, the character of Hadiah, a half Jamaican girl likes oldskool ska. Eventhough it was quite lowbudget made according to this page, it had some nice musical sequences, even on a sailing navy ship on open water! We liked the funny and sometimes surreal twist and the parodical navy chats. Chloe Leenheer plays a memorable role and the soundtrack with all the ska songs on it was very well done!

great series
25 August 2019
This series by Int title Floodland is an epic series. It deals - in an abstract way - with actual themes like migration, racism and xenophobia, guilt, revenge, criminal rituals, # Metoo and loneliness. The series is set up in a cinematic way, the landscapes are interestingly spooky and desolate. The cast is excellent, we liked Wim Willaert as Carlos Tierneteyn a lot. Also newcomers like Adana Unigwe ( only 16 years old), Robin Boissevain and Anne Laure Vandeputte are acting very well. The serie lifts off even more from episode 4. Has an interesting soundtrack also.

Great, absurd cinema
12 December 2015
Not often does a film these days what cinema supposed to do: Innovate the language of film or film narration. J. Kessels is a great, weird road movie, well acted, with remarkable memorable visuals and a touch of surrealism. It reminded me of the Big Lebowski, but also Der Amerikanischer Freund. It had a very dry comical touch and a funny reminiscing of the main character about a phantom of his childhood, a pinball playing girl with the looks of a young Brigitte Bardot. There are daydreams and twists, great lines about the meat industry, but especially great, old and cult country and western songs throughout the trip of this weird writer Thomese and his old pal' and favourite character J. Kessels, who is called Jesus here and there.

Biological clock
12 December 2015
A bit like a Bunuel film, this story of Nadine who is plagued by her biological clock. The main character is played by three actresses. There is a road trip and then Nadine, a well educated, single career woman in her early forties is reminiscing about her past. As in an impulse she kidnaps the baby of her ex lover. And too late she realises she can't go back. Luckily the film doesn't drown itself in a plotted story. This film is much more a character driven story, an analysis for many single career women nowadays, to cope with the idea that they will remain childless. It is a bit like a Bertolt Brecht alike approach: The audience is invited to stay in touch with the theme, more than with the main actress. Beautiful music.

Great Dutch Film
12 December 2015
WIlD MUSSELS I've seen the remastered version is just a film good on all levels; The story is touching, there is surprisingly funny sequences in this tragic story, the soundtrack is just fabulous and the way the lead role is acted by Fedja van Huet ( who also starred in the Oscar winning film Character is amazing. The dialogues are well written by director Erik de Bruyn, who is responsible for the script too. He must have made a great team with his D.o.p. Joost van Gelder. The photography is like the Southern East dutch landscape is divided into paintings and sometimes the camera is unedited and raw. Van Gelder is now shooting worldwide campaigns from his new hometown L.A. And one can see his talent already in this film. The ending apotheosis is just very very well edited. So I need to say that for cinema-lovers, this can't be missed. Check it out!

Great comedy
12 December 2015
This Best Comedy Awarded film on the International Tiburon Film Festival is telling a remarkable tale of how two guys, Joes and his funny once ( played by the famous Dutch- Moroccan comedian Najib Amhali) are send away because they are held responsible for the disappearance of the goats of the village. They come into the Netherlands, where the monarchy finally collapsed and a republic is called for. Due to problems with the elections, they are in search for a modern hero and just around then Joes saves some people from a burning house in the camp where they work. Through some stunts Joes becomes popular and is to be elected as new president. But then new problems arise. So you see, this is pure fantasy and fiction, but for the Netherlands it is close to what could happen and so it is satire. The young Moroccan people in Holland loved the film.
