dont bother

Just wrote a worthy review only for to to disappear. I felt like i was watching an 1980s midday movie as an adaptation of a bad mills n boon novel. Every character predictable down to every word of dialogue. Nonsensical in that the wife had stable hand prep horse, almost got caught but created a distraction then ran off on foot?!??! Absolute garbage despite sort of ok acting, this movie is reserved for bored housewives while bub is taking their midday nap. I think after 5 minutes i could have written the remaining script myself. Yah it had a "twist" but that too was predictable and tedious. Sorry but if i marry a billionaire i am not interested in digging into his past who gives a flying.... enjoy the ride.

not entirely terrible
13 April 2024
So expected this to be lame in a good way but it is mostly just lame. Eric balfour is a good actor, and for the most part all the acting is pretty good. The shark is laughable, small, unrealistic and boring. The way they find out about the death of their friend is insane she had been missing but a couple of hours, how news anchors already knew she was a victim is ridiculous. The search and rescue sent out on what seems to be a complete wild goose chase with no actual explanation of the "distress signal" they were suppsoedly responding to. So all around an average b grade movie, i have seen much worse and seen much better. It kept me interested enough to watch it through to the end, and there are plenty of movies that are completely unwatchable so points for that.

Gorefest!
29 March 2024
I started this months ago and for some reason turned it off. Went back to it tonight and wow it was really good value. Australian movies can be really hit and miss but when they hit they do it in an incredible way. The "hillbillies" not sure what we call em in australia... were creepy af, stomach turning animals that just having crossed their math was a nightmare. The insinuated level of depravity of these 3 was way way despicable. The hubby was portaited a bit too weak for my liking, but it gave the wife a chance to shine and take on this whole situation with brutality and no mercy. What she did to the dad was magic, unique and memorable. Gory, exciting and well done. The atmosphere worked. All round a great watch.

Could have been great
11 March 2024
The movie was good but the main character is just so annoying. She never speaks, never answers anyone, is surly as heck, and just very frustrating in all ways. Besides her character being unpleasant the premise acting directing was all good. Unsure why she was made so unlikeable. Interesting commentary on racism, religious discrimination, dysfunctional families, women trying to take their power back in a patriachal society. Every character has a messed up family, which is probably overstating the problem... or maybe not. Good watch despite the character letting it down somewhat. Worth the watch.

really??

So i read reviews which were very mixed so tried to give it a go. Acting is atrocious. Wolf creek guy is just comedic. Stereotypical gay guy is well stereotypical with frighteningly botoxed lips. Mad arse steam punk DJ dating a straight boring aussie bloke? Not likely. And umm just for u americans, those red plastic baskets used at restaurants do NOT exist in australia... so just annoying they added such an american prop that doesnt belong in an aussie movie. It just doesnt work on any level. Special effects definitely good but totally surrounded by crap dialogue, acting, story they dont hold up.

priest or dracula?!
21 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Ok so i quite like russell crowe but a few times i looked away from screen only to feel like i was watching a dracula movie. His accent oddly romanian dracul sounding! Some good aspects such as incorporating spanish inquisition and acknowledging it was an evil thing, and giving a good reason it happened. The rest was just yawn worthy done to death exorcism tripe... demon jumping into priest, priest winning family goes off to live happily ever after. Scariest part was the opening at the end for untold sequels. Dont just dont. Watched Exorcism of God right after and while low budget, average acting it at least had some new and interesting themes and good effects.

fresh idea, entertaining
5 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Really great thought provoking movie. Acting is solid, directing well done. Some interesting twists and unexpected direction of some characters. Great at raising the whole ethical question of yet another way the wealthy can take advantage of those in need. Also the whole issue of corruption. No matter how "well intended" any concept of "allowing" the poor to benefit by aiding the rich, there will always be a larger, more insidious and greedy aspect underlying the public image of the process. Corruption and selfishness will always win, people will always use any means possible for their own personal gain. A really good watch, no slow moments, not drawn out. Tells the story fully and succinctly.

Slow as
3 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Painfully slow!! Overall the storyline was good but making both the mum mentally ill AND some supernatural stuff its like they couldnt decide which story to tell a ghost one or a mental mum one, so they did both and that just made it nonsensical.... both angles good but it felt like watching two separate story lines intermingled. It was obvious from almost the start what was going to happen, so any twists or surprises... werent. Acting was mediocre with unlikely behaviours and interactions. Her daughter walking to her fate at the end while mother just stands in house calling her??? Really... not running after her?

What??
26 June 2023
So many reviews how great this is... are we meant to say we liked it to show our intellect and that we "get" it... it was dull and had no context. It was clear what was going on, maybe best put by doctor who that time is all wibbly wobbly but seriously what a waste of time and effort to try and find something worthwhile in this mess of pseudo hibrow pretence. How it is classed as a thriller is entirely beyond me there is definitely nothing thrilling interesting or engaging. Is it meant to be thought provoking? If so it was way to painful to watch to ponder the meaning of life or take any pearls of wisdom from.

the WORST
23 June 2023
This movie is absolute garbage, completely unwatchable, the acting is atrocious, dialogue/script ridiculous and the execution just fails beyond belief ... why this even got made i do not know. Its cringe how bad the whole storyline is!! Just nothing at all redeemable about this pile of crap. Do not watch do not watch do not watch do not watch and have i mentioned DO NOT WATCH the monster in his $20 halloween costume is laughable and the "twist" is well its SO funny it is the one minute of movie that truly makes it a comedy. There is nothing else to say about this except do not watch save your time find something else.

Jackals (I) (2017)

really great movie
8 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Just well made, somewhat predictable but thats to be expected after 98276363 horror movies haha. I was really surprised how good this was amongst the trash on shudder. The acting was realistic, the story relevant and fully possible. The loss of aelf to a cult is clearly shown in this movie in a believable way. Thanatos is amazing, his family did everything one would expect, although i would have maybe handed him over earlier as campbell wanted but no dount the outcome would not have been altered. I do think the families decision to take him to a well known family spot was probably a bit foolish, and hence made the ensuing eventa too easy for his new family. I guess without some lame decisions it would make the story just not workable. Love to see jackals 2 with his girlfriend and zoey signing up to be part of the cult. That would be cool.

What a performance by Joaquin!!! He was incredible and I loved this movie. I *am* a little confused by his mum's back story .. some gaps there.. How did she adopt if she was single (in the time this is set doesn't seem likely) where did Arthur go when she was hospitalised how did she get him back... and of course who ARE his real parents. I love that they gave this "villian" such a full origin story and well deserved moments of glory in starting an uprising against the wealthy. Hero &villain all in one

Pet Sematary (2019)

Great directing and atmosphere
1 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I loved this. Although I am (like most who probably saw this) a hardcore Stephen King fan, I was a bit uncomfortable with the diversions from the original story. However for the most part, they made sense, in the context of restrained time in movies to explain everything. (ie, they didnt refer to jud stating that the longer one has been dead, the more wrong they come back, so Louis burying his wife would have seemed (even more) crazy, after his prior experience, so having the child do it made sense to me. Having the daughter be the victim allowed a dialogue with the "returned" child, whereas Gage wouldnt have been able to speak/provide any dialogue. I set aside my expectation of this in relation to the book, and with that done, i thoroughly LOVED IT. The children being creepy in the early scene of pet burial, which, was so against the set of the book, where i felt the pet sematary was intended to provide a contrasting innocent place to the horror on the other side, lent itself to more of the mood and atmosphere of the movie. Didnt much like Jud played by John Lithgow, far less jovial and friendly as he was portrayed originally. Sadly as always, they left the end to allow for some slim possiblity of a sequel.. i do wish they'd stop that. Fully recommend this movie.

This boys story is just unbelievable. How he got convicted is just beyond belief. It was a relief to find online that he his sentence was eventually overturned. Terrifying how "justice"can get it wrong, and frequently do. I hope he gets to live the rest of his life happy and safe and a part of his community

What a waste of time.. no depth, no character background, no point. Cannot believe Keanu Reeves actually involved himself in this bitterly empty, stupid, confusing piece of crap

What a ride!!!

I was so pleased that someone had mentioned to me Split was part of this trilogy, as I had no idea.. so rewatching unbreakable and split prior to seeing it is definitely worth doing so the characters are fresh in your mind. James McAvoy is just astounding in his ability to truly BE the characters, giving them truth and depth and even the ability to change his actual physique to some degree. I LOVE these characters, the storyline and everything about this.

Really great drama!
21 January 2019
I enjoy the detailed plots, never really knowing who the culprit is, lots of twists and turns. Only negative is i dont think (only half way through season 2) but i do not think ANYONE has been happy. Everyone so serious, all the time, there's no happy interludes, after work drinks, home life happiness. Its all quite doom and gloom, and although makes it quite atmospheric, it sort of feels a bit odd that noone ever smiles!! I'm sure the Welsh arent so grim!! :)

Unique.. kept me interested
2 January 2019
Not the greatest blockbuster, but still enjoyable, a new premise - which these days is difficult. Left it open to a sequel but dont know it was good enough to get a sequel? Different, but also a bit thin on the underlying story.. i mean you get it, but a lot left unsaid too.. definitely worth watching
