Vexed (2010)
10 for first season - wish Lucy Punch could have stayed.
I first noticed Lucy Punch in Doc Martin first season. She had a minor part but you could see her beauty behind the hippy look she was sporting. And she was funny.
So I found Vexed and Lucy Punch was great. Excellent banter between the two detectives. On the level of Absolutely Fabulous banter. At one point I even looked on IMDB to see if Jennifer Saunders had contributed. She hadn't but I bet the writers and directors were thinking about AF.
When she busted the kneecaps of her husband I thought that was a bit much but then I realized it's what Edina and Patsy would have done.
This show with Punch should have gone on for years.
I will keep searching my streaming channels for more things with Lucy Punch.
Heist (2001)
Cliched plot. Awful characters.
The characters were not likeable. I wanted every character to die long before the end of the movie. I was disappointed that some were left alive. I would have preferred that the bank came after the bandits and killed all of them. Or better, since it had so many twists, how about one where there was only fake gold on the plane because the bank was faking it for some financial scam they were involved in and in order to assure it all got covered up they tracked down all the thieves and killed them.
Debug (2014)
Ridiculous
My whole review is a spoiler.
At the end two computer programs are fighting each other to the death using swords and cattle prods. They're computer programs!! I mean really couldn't they think of better ways for computer programs to fight? And can't anyone figure out how to pull the plug? In Clarke's 2001 they pulled the plug.
Here is a better ending (borrowing inspiration from Heinlein's The moon is a harsh mistress). The crew realizes they have been used and since the ship has killed more than 500 people and they are doomed to die anyway they take revenge by crashing the ship into Earth at mission control.
The Orville: About a Girl (2017)
This episode would be banned just 4 years later.
Frankly I am surprised the streamer is even allowed to show this episode. The writers clearly were advocating against sex changes to children. Today(2021) just 4 years later to take such a position on various social media platforms would precipitate a ban of that account.
My how times have changed.
Wander (2020)
Proof that movies that portray the hallucinations of a crazy guy as real can be really bad.
So are we watching the images of someone's dreams? Or are we watching the hallucinations of a crazy guy? What's supposed to be real in the movie and what's hallucination? In A Beautiful Mind everything became clear at the end. In Sixth Sense we knew who was a ghost and who wasn't. In Pans Labyrinth we figured out the little girl's mother was right and she did start imagining things. But in this movie I still don't know what was an hallucination and what was real.
No! I know! I fell asleep on the sofa and dreamed I watched a movie but I really didn't and none of it was real. In fact perhaps I don't even have a TV. In fact there is no such thing as the internet, streaming, Roku, IMDB. All made up in my head. In fact I'm an alien being living on a planet in Andromeda and I just dreamed there was some place called Earth. I think therefore I am. But do I really think? Am I am?
I sincerely hope this review was more entertaining than the movie. Wait?! Review? What review? Oh, just shut up me.
The Sum of All Fears (2002)
Not good. And not worth over 2 hours.
It was filled with lots of unnecessary fluff. Time wasted on hospital scenes, football games. I'm pretty sure I could have trimmed it down to an hour twenty and I'm only and amateur editor. It would have only made it a little better but at least it wouldn't waste so much of the viewers time.
And there was way too much flamboyant music.
Catching Killers (2021)
Confusing confusing
They interleave two different cases. You have to take notes to keep them separated. Producers please don't do anymore like this. I have to look each case up on the internet to figure out what happened.
Into the Night (2020)
They are trying to fly an airplane to outrace the sunrise?!?!?
I like this series for the reason that it is so enjoyable to make fun of it's stupidity.
Airplane max speed about 550 MPH.
Sunrise typical speed about 1000 MPH.
So the sunrise is going twice as fast as them and they still have time to
keep landing to get gas and drive around an airport and then continue at their
paltry speed?
Langoliers was better. And Kate Maberly was prettier than anyone on this airplane.
Z Nation (2014)
Great until Season 4
I find most of the Zombie shows to be too serious. Too maudlin. Then Z- Nation came along. Finally, a show that doesn't take itself so serious. It's just fun. I eagerly watched all of it. It had jokes like BTVS had. A moment of seriousness followed by a joke or even two jokes. BTVS was my fav. So was Z-nation seasons 1-3.
But apparently there is a sector of TV viewers which dominate the ratings. They want maudlin. They want serious. They hate jokes. They hate fun. So I guess Z-nations ratings weren't as high as that show filmed in my neighborhood. Apparently the producers of Z-Nationdidn't want a niche show to keep a fun loving audience entertained and decided to change the show for season 4, drop the jokes, drop the fun, and just make it depressing, and no fun. Well I hope the fans of the show made in my neighborhood will like it. But they are generally the type that don't forgive a show if it's ever been fun even for a moment. And Z-nation seasons 1-3 were great fun.
Who knows, maybe as season 4 progresses they will find their funny bone. Maybe they will stop distressing Addy's pretty face. If not then I recommend to fun loving TV viewers just watch Seasons 1-3 as some of the most fun on TV.
