Prey (2022)
Ignore the haters
This isn't some woke Hollywood reboot or cash grab.
This is a Predator movie made by a fan, for the fans.
Sure, there's differences and drama but, for what it is, the first hunt on Earth? That's what it feels like.
The aesthetics and effects are excellent and although different from what we know, suit the era the movie takes place in.
Go to it with an open mind, forget about how good the first is and enjoy it for what it is.
Free Guy (2021)
Made me not want to kill an NPC again
Wow.
I didn't hold high expectations for this movie due to it being another Ryan Reynolds comedy movie, seen one seen them all but I am blown away.
Genuinely enjoyable and awe inspiring.
The perfect date movie.
Chock full of surprise cameos and references to keep you guessing as well as a plot that you can absolutely get behind.
Gamers and none gamers will enjoy this tremendously.
Go see it and support your local cinema.
F9 (2021)
Ignore the low level reviews
Once again, it's a Fast and Furious movie.
Citizen Kane it is not
Its not going to be anything other than an enjoyable ridiculously over the top story.
Enjoy it for what it is and forget about the rest of the world for a bit.
Stowaway (2021)
If I could give no stars, I would.
If I had anything better to do with my time, I would have.
Absolutely terrible movie.
Convoluted plot, no science and oversights by the technical department.
Just proves that Netflix will throw any amount of money at anything.
Please delete it so no one else has to see it.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 16: The Rescue (2020)
Astounded.
Saw a meme of Jon Favreau being in hospital after injuring his back carrying the franchise.
It's true.
Absolute kudos for what he's done with this season and for the fans.
Transformers: War for Cybertron (2020)
Convoluted Transformers
I grew up with the original series.
I watched the Bay movies.
Now I've watched this.
What happened? It's ridiculously convoluted and the plot makes no sense.
I'm disappointed because it's Rooster Teeth, which once made great stuff.
Just stop already and let it die.
Cosmos (2019)
Cosmos: A Space Time Fantasy
Genuine fresh take on the first contact trope, we'll written, acted and directed.
Considering its current rating on IMDB is a travesty considering that this labour of love was produced by a team of 3 people with zero budget.
Kudos to everyone involved.
Chasing Happiness (2019)
For those that don't know.
Now, I am a 32 year old man from the North of the UK, so I consider myself a stoic man's man, a real salt of the earth and down to business man.
Yet, I never understood the hype behind the Jonas brothers, as I don't follow that kind of music so, my other half suggested watching this documentary because she is a fan.
So, we watched it and well, that's certainly opened my eyes.
The documentary follows the lives of the three brothers, their parents and all of the religious and private views of their family.
The whole thing leaves you with a warm feeling towards family and sheds light on the brothers as a family and not the product you see on your TV screens.
Give it a watch.
Glass (2019)
Someone needs to take M. Nights license to make movies off him.
Regardless of your views of whether you like or dislike 'super hero movies' (I can't include finger quotes, so air quotes will do) you've gotta give it to M. Night Shamalamadingdong for being the master of disaster for destroying his own stories.
Glass picks up where Split left off, 19 years after Unbreakable. Now, I might seem like I'm about to pick apart this movie franchise like a vulture on a rotting carcass but, you'll be asking yourself 'why did he give it 5 out of 10 if he's going to destroy it', well, the answer is my friends, I have to give Props to Bruce Willis, Samual L. Jackson and James MaCavoy for returning and commuting to the roles after the read the script.
The film doesn't know what it wants to be.
Is it a super hero movie? No.
Is it a drama? No.
Action? Maybe.
Utterly disjointed to the point it feels like plots were started and then dropped? Yes.
Does M. Night know what he's doing? Absolutely not.
It feels like it was forced, like it came too soon after Split to capitalise on Nights best movie.
Split was brilliant, original and enjoyable?
Unbreakable was the great Saturday night out drinking with good buddies, you know the type. Karaoke until 12am, drinks in the bar until 2 and then ultimately a bad kebab and an argument in a taxi rank at the end of the night.
Split was the perfect evening out. Shooting pool, getting a girl or guy and spending the rest of the weekend enjoying yourself.
Glass is basically getting arrested at the beginning of the evening.
I'm not going to tell you not to watch it because, it's the final act.
Please let it be the final act.
Thanks for reading.
Origin (2018)
Trope seen before but, with a twist.
Over all story is one we have all seen and watched before but, it is difficult not to step on toes of previous forays into story telling.
Strong cast so far with a decent script. It's refreshing to come across a series with so many different ethnic backgrounds working well.
Down side is Tom Felton doing a god awful American accent. Can't he just be British, it helps.
Shall be an interesting series to watch, assuming it doesn't go the way of the Dodo and Daredevil.
First Man (2018)
First Man. First Oscar.
Fantastic representation of a biopic in regards to the bravest humans of our modern era.
However, this is a biopic, a mockumentry if you will, not a movie. It isn't your usual blockbuster sci-fi with aliens, it is a film about these brave people.
If you're expecting a Michael Bay take on Armstrong, look else where, this is pure cinema at its finest.
Watch it.
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
Phenomenal. Purely amazing.
Rami Malek should be introduced to the hall of fame for his performance as Freddie.
The whole cast, even down to Mike Myers has performed incredibly.
See the film in the cinema, you will not regret it.
The Predator (2018)
'If it bleeds, we can milk it'
The Predator. Not the Predator your dad loves.
As a critic of movies, over the years I've come to profoundly love the only two Predator movies that exist in my eyes.
Predator and Predator 2.
We saw the evolution of the franchise and where it was going.
Predator 2 taught us that we already knew of the Yautja race. We were already trying to capture one to see what we could learn.
This film is a great continuation of the story, directly ignoring AvP, AvP: Requiem and Predators. You already knew that, so don't get angry. It's not a spoiler.
From the get go you're treated to the gore and profanity you'd come to expect from a Predator movie, it's not dialed down for the masses.
The hunt truly has evolved.
A continuation, self fladulation and gratitutios appreciation for what came before and what's to follow.
The new team is exactly NOT what you're expecting which refreshes the ideals that you needed.
Shane Black knew exactly what he was doing when he cut the trailers and released them and you, yourselves, will know what I mean when you've seen the film.
It's a solid 8 out of ten.
Sure, it's not without flaw but, what is these days?
Maybe it was a little too short but, the comical aspect and treatment of soldiers was pristine.
Go see it for yourself.
You'll agree.
