American Ultra (2015)
Good in parts- Not a Bourne spoof
Well to start with you wont get bored due to enough action put in.
This is not a comedy and not a Bourne spoof , even if they have some elements in common.
Some of the scenes do have the potential for edge of seat action but most of the movie is focused on a hard to believe plot!.. hey that's why we watch the movies, right?
Anyway once you get over the weirdness of the unveiling story-line which has difficulty flowing you would be entertained by the most unlikely action hero of all in Jesse.
Jesse's acting is top of the line and seems a 180 degree turn from Social Network. If there is one reason you should watch this film this should be it.
No Escape (2015)
Riveting and Gory
One thing is for sure...This movie will keep you on your seats. Irrespective of ratings etc don't watch with young kids.
A lot of gory hacking and chopping where the one point agenda is killing Americans in brutal ways. The escaping American family escapes one attack after another , merely by a whisker. This is the success of the movie which undoubtedly captivates the viewer after a slow start.
What for me made the plot less believable was the sheer ignorance of the main character of not having an iota clue on the situation and relocating bag and baggage with his family into an unknown land.
Apparently from the movie the whole water company around which the plot is based consists of 3 people. Secondly Pierce Brosnan while delivering a good cameo does a James Bond act only to conveniently get out of the way (Dead!) at the last hurdle in a dramatic fashion.
Watch once.
Meru (2015)
Enduring real story with incredible footage
Watched it after reading the good reviews on IMDb. The reviews are right in many ways, at least the positive ones.
First this is not a movie . This is real life with real drama , tragedy , courage , hope and a celebration of human spirit.
The documentary captures the eerie beauty and loneliness of the most amazing mountain range in the world. There is cracking footage of 3 courageous men slowly inching up to the summit 20000 ft above land.
At times the viewer will feel the very real vertigo , the absolute silence , the sheer complexity of the climb. It is said that this route to Meru is the most difficult in the list of mountaineering challenges.
The night sky looks like you are in space literally. I guess the climbers had the fortune of good weather resulting in beautiful cinematography .
What some may find equally moving and beautiful is the story of each of their struggles and how they use the climb to the top as a catharsis of sorts.
Best documentary in a long long time.
