Limitless (2015)
Limitless - you're kidding me!
This series exemplifies the modern generation - they want it ALL, right NOW!. They don't want to spend a decade learning a skill, hell... they don't want to spend ten minutes... because, somewhere, somehow... there MUST be a pill they can take, a half-hour class, a dodge, a workaround that'll give them the skills that they see in use everyday (by people who have spent decades learning them) in an instant.
Crap like this perpetuates the myth that ANY child can grow up and be anything they want - this IS NOT TRUE... and treating people this way only lowers the bar for everyone.
Sometimes... NOT always, but sometimes... you have to say... this kid is stupid or uncreative or warped... and LEAVE them behind - because if you don't, then you're tying an anvil to the rest.
Lucifer (2016)
Really.. this is the best you could come with?
I'm stunned, baffled, mystified..etc... IS this truly the best you could come with? I mean, let's face it... you have THE 'arch-criminal' of all time.. the Lord of Lies, Lord of Flies, THE Tempter, THE Maker, THE Shaker when it comes to Sin... and you turn this into a petty club owner... a neurotic musician.. a 'Homme Fatale par excellence'... into a cheap, 'dirty- raincoat', grimy, non-intuitive, stupid, by-the-book one-dimensional character.
The Writers, Producers and Directors should be shot. NOT the actors/actresses - I mean, let's face it - by definition, they'll do anything for money.
Scorpion (2014)
Most People Miss the Point
People continually mouth off about the unbelievable plots, the bad science, the in-adherence to basic physics, the stilted dialogue, the unnecessary romantic interests, poor acting and generally poor production, direction and writing. BUT I believe that most people have missed the point about this series...
The truly intelligent people portrayed in this sh*t DID NOT write it. They only PROFITED from it.
Intelligence is not about working harder, but about working smarter... which these people did. They gave heir names to this bull, and, with barely any effort whatsoever: earned money.
That's what makes THEM smart and the rest of the reviewers IDIOTS.
Building Alaska (2012)
A Stunning Example of Luck v. Incompetence.
Firstly... let me say that I've only watched series 3.
As a Builder. As, more to the point, a professional builder, I have to say that I've never, ever witnessed more incompetence, more sheer 'hit it with a bigger hammer' building techniques in my life.
Even the most elementary stuff, e.g. squaring up a foundation, are techniques beyond the skill of most of the guys.
I wouldn't trust most of them to build an outhouse.
That said, the show is funny - and as someone who has taught building... from framing to foundation laying - that's NOT good.
Building a home for someone is a job for professionals.
I do understand that their dealing with the extremes of weather that you get in Alaska (and yes, I have worked there) but putting yourself and your workmates at risk is NOT an acceptable exchange for competence or money.
Mountain Goats (2014)
Extremely Poor semi-Pilot Episode
I watched the 'Original' pilot episode called 'Millers Mountain' - an attempt by the BBC to draw in new comic-writing talent... it wasn't bad. Not great, but viewable.
This 'Pilot' is, however, absolutely terrible - a fact that is somewhat baffling, when you consider that the main actors are the same. A small part of me wonders whether the BBC have forced some kind of comic-lobotomy upon them? The timing, acting and overall performances are well below the standards set in the first Pilot.
I cannot accept that the same actors should perform so well in one, singular, episode and not in the next without having to resort to cursing either the writing or directing - the only alternative would be to assume that the actors themselves had decided to 'wooden - up' in order to sink their own careers.
I will watch the next two episodes, partly because I have some sado- masochistic tendencies, on the hope of finding a resolution to my question.... that said, I will be back!
