Gold Diggers (2023)
ABC comedy where have you gone???
Not often do I give 1 stars, but this show is absolute rubbish. Episode 1, benefit of the doubt. Episode 2, crass. Episode 3, I switched off as it descended into typical ABC production for the 2020's.
When did ABC 'comedy' become so unfunny? I routinely log onto ABC to see what comedy productions are being aired, hoping that something is a standout & will become my new favourite show. Sadly the ABC continually produces terrible comedy nowadays. ABC comedy used to be appointment television, not anymore. Only decent shows they produce are Fisk & Utopia.
I do not recommend this show whatsoever.
Battleground Melbourne (2022)
Battleground Melbourne just wow!
As a Melburnian who survived 2020 & 2021 living under the authoritarian regime ruled by the Premier Andrews this documentary encompasses all the rollercoaster feelings we experienced. Thank you for documenting an important time in Australian history.
The Deuce (2017)
Utterly brilliant
This series is hands down amazing. Great casting, character development, heart felt reality, comedy, sadness & best of all NYC circa 70's & 80's. Do yourself a favour.
Shameless (2011)
Great show up until 2020 season
I love this show! Well I used to. The characters were so well written. Emotional investment in most of the cast & great acting.
Unfortunately the last season has clearly seen a shift towards wokeness. The writing is terrible. I now no longer care about any of the characters. So sad my once favourite show has been destroyed. Go woke go broke as tey say.
Schitt$ Creek (2015)
Love this show!
Stumbled across this gem on Netflix Australia at the time Season One premiered. Almost did not stick with it, two episodes in & I was hooked. At first I found the characters pretentious & egotistical, clearly that was the writer's intention. The locals who inhabited Schitt$ Creek were seemingly looked down upon, but not for long, even Roland Schitt has something to offer. Twyla. Roni. Stevie. Bob. A heartfelt cast. A quirky cast. A story of growth. Personal growth and how everything happens for a reason. A fabulously funny show. Will be sorry to not be able to connect with these characters anymore.
The Last Kingdom (2015)
Absolutely enthralling
A truly great show, historically interesting, great acting, sets, costumes, cinematography and writing are all exceptional. Am mid way through series one and cannot stop watching. Highly recommend.
Lunatics (2019)
Be your own kind of beautiful
As always Chris Lilley's new series contains profoundly interesting characters, at first some of them are particularly unlikeable, but that is part of the charm. By the end of Lunatics I found myself enjoying each & every character.
Chris' humour is not everyone's cup of tea, he can be quite confronting, crude, difficult to watch, uncomfortable & offensive. I myself have been a fan since We can be heroes was first broadcast way back in 2005.
I always enjoy how towards the end of a series he ties everything in, the intention flows through and it is often very beautiful and thoughtful. Think of Pat in We can be heroes and you will understand what I mean.
Chris Lilley is a comedic genius. Loved Lunatics.
Norsemen (2016)
Absolutely love this show.
Stumbled across this show on Netflix. Fantastic show. The dry subtle humour combined with dramatic storylines is superb. Writing is top notch. If you enjoy Monty Python you will love this.
