Annihilation (2018)
Hate that I love it
Giving it high a high rating for its gorgeous scenery and ambiance. Annihilation is basically visually stunning and mysterious. But while I appreciate the artistic aspect, it feels like the narrative prioritizes ambiguity over coherence.
Those enigmatic qualities that intrigued me the most become a source of frustration as neither the writer, director, or the book's author can provide clear explanations for the complexities they have created, the film unfortunately falls into the category of 'abstract ideas and very little sense.'
The intentional ambiguity might be enticing for some, but personally, it leaves the movie feeling like a beautiful yet unresolved puzzle. It is easy to create a convoluted story with so many layers to evoke mystery, then even easier to say "I don't even know what the hell my story is about but I can give you metaphors". Which is the formula to create a movie that'll inevitably flop, then slowly gather a huge cult of fans pulling their hair out trying to interpret and figure the plot elements on their own.
Cobweb (2023)
How is this a movie ... Jesus
The worst horror movie of 2023 so far, there's no story really, just a bunch of people who came up with what they thought was a cool monster design and half assed a diarrhea inducing story around it, nothing is explained, nothing makes sense, not the parents behavior, nor the main characters behavior. The movie pretends to be grounded I reality but nothing about it would work in real life ... The whole thing seems like one of these random creepy pasta stories you find online. I genuinely don't know what to make out of it ... and I don't wanna spoil but Jesus Christ... The ending felt like a music video, all in all a revolting mess...
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021)
A better try
Is this the closest thing to the game that we have to date ? Yes
Is it good ? Well, kinda.
The acting is alright, good chemistry between the characters, most of the CGI don't look good enough, the 3D parts will look 3D right away and same for the prosthetics. Something about this movie doesn't seem backed well enough. But all in all it's kinda enjoyable, hardcore fans wont be very pleased but it is the most faithful movie we've had to the game so far. People who don't know much about the game will probably be confused as hell.
Jill valentine and Leon are absolutely nothing like in the game, not the personality, not the character, not the appearance, 0 for that.
Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021)
Overwhelmingly mediocre story with a bloated budget.
Remove the famous actors and the over the top CGI, you're left with a forgettable, unoriginal, barely-there story.
Antebellum (2020)
Could've been a masterpiece.
Amazing concept that isn't met with amazing execution. The story and acting needed more refining but regardless it's a movie I'd watch a couple more times for it's crazy horrific original concept.
Unhinged (2020)
Genre: Fantasy
A movie in which unbelievably ridiculous things conventionally happen to further a silly unoriginal story.
You lose interest in the rest of the movie after the "villain" casually murders someone in public and walks away like its a video game with the cheats on.
The Nightingale (2018)
Revenge is a dish served empty.
This movie was like a puzzle with a very meaningful image, if it wasn't for the pieces that are in the wrong place.
It feels like they prioritized "documenting" how horrible that period was, over storytelling.
You kinda end up with a movie full of detailed harrowing events but a foggy story that doesn't really go anywhere..
The Grudge (2019)
What the hell did I just watch ...
This movie is one of the worst things I've seen in a while. EVERYTHING about it is bad, the story, the acting, the effects, the cinematography, the music, all of it is just amateurish university project quality. I have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that someone gave permission for this abomination to happen and that there are people out there who consider it a good movie.
8 (2019)
An OK low budget flick
This is the trick guys, go into this movie knowing it's low budget and nothing over the top and you will kinda enjoy it. The story is somewhat original, 6/10
Secret Obsession (2019)
Oh dear
So after watching the official trailer (which spoils the entire movie...?!) I decided to give this mess a try for fun, it wasn't.
The Void (2016)
Pretentious
I'm still not sure what this wreck of a movie is about and this is a big problem in these recent horror flicks, trying too hard without really knowing how to achieve a comprehensible story, disguising the poor messy writing as something purposely done to create mystery.
Reading the good reviews will only give you high expectations and make the movie 10 times worse so spare yourself from both.
Pet Sematary (2019)
Weak
The story's rushed, the movie feels kinda half assed, kinda incomplete, kinda missing a thing or two, or fifty.
You're not given enough time to connect to the story or the characters, it barely has any time to develop these characters or make us care about them. It all felt like a trailer or a music video at one point.
It does bring something new to the table, but not enough.
