Hellbound (2021– )

A fascinating religious horror tale totally ruined in the last five minutes
21 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
What could have been a powerful critical painting of fascism, sectarism, human violence, greed and stupidity, with this powerful description of a society becoming the passively terrified slave to a mix of Taliban-Moonish (we're in Korea, not Afghanistan) cult born from horrific (and never expained) monster manifestations and giving birth to a pervert Christian schism peppered with all the bells and whistles of modern consumerism, TV, media, social network, videos and nerdy hooliganish followers, this clever (and philosophically provocative) master script is (sadly) absolutely ruined in the last five minutes by a cheesy Disneyian redemptive happy ending (there's even some snow to add a touch of Xmassy nativity): the infant meant to die burnt alive in public and then bear proof of the naked absurditiy of the notion of sin and more generally of all divine "law" is finally spared (in total contradiction with the previously almost existentialist original tone) to become de facto a sort of new Messiah... Cherry on the cake, an ultimate twist (obvious teaser for a second season) reveals the ressuscitation of one of the first victims of those ceremonial pyres. Sort of heavy cliffhanger a la Supernatural...

Overbloated turning full circle in the void
25 June 2019
Amazing, the number of raving reviews for this (sadly) totally overbloated production. The setting is amazing, the FX (almost) convincing, but the acting is absolutely terrible, the dialogues pitifully nonsensical while intending to be veeeryyy deep (no, they are not, they are deeply hollow), the ubackground music childishly unbearable and to top it all, the story is a rehash-mish-mash of all the existing time-travel and parallel universe memes of sci-fi, without ever choosing between science and fantasy.

is it a film? Is it a joke? Is it the way entertainment's gonna be in 2101? Please bring me back to the 50s and annihilate Prime video

I've seen quite a bunch of crap on amazon prime but this one is certainly winning the gold medal. Bad script, bad acting (the word acting in this context is even an oxymoron), bad plot, bad editing, bad filming, bad lighting, bad sound, bad music, bad continuity, bad set, bad props, bad fx, bad stunts... even at 57min length it looks like 3hrs long. I watched it to the end and am still waiting for the spot to start... it looks more like the pilot episode for some low budget scifi tv series. Hopefully, it will never go to fruition, which is probably the one and only silver lining there... The only funny note is for the French viewers: the subtitling (probably automatically generated by some google translate sleepwalking buggy algorithm and never ever humanly reviewed) is absolutely surrealistic... even a 6th grade student in English would have done a better job. The two guys who posted reviews over 1/10 (there is even a 7/10) have to be members or next of kins of the crew, can't explain it otherwise. And no, this review doesn't contain any spoiler: there is absolutely nothing to spoil, since there is absolutely no plot or coherent time line in this abysmal lack of any script.
